Yum! What better way to start your morning than with lemon-blueberry or orange-cranberry scones, fresh from the oven with our breakfast? Baker Stephanie Fenstermacher brought the treats to illustrate her classification talk on Jan. 16. Beginning with her roots as a farm girl, helping out on the family produce stand, marriage to her high school sweetheart, raising a family with three children, and becoming a Human Resources professional, Stephanie shared with us how she learned to open her eyes to the needs of humanity, and eventually, to her own need to do more for herself. Eventually, that desire led her to turn in her HR badge and open her bakery. Along the way, Stephanie and her family took time out to head down to Moore, OK, to help the community that was devastated after being struck by a tornado; a precursor to becoming a Rotarian, as Stephanie opened her heart to the people who needed whatever help she had to offer. "The one thing my business plan didn't account for," Stephanie explained, with a laugh, "was that it would be successful!" And now that it is, watch for a storefront to open up for The Buttered Crumb in New Tripoli as plans are underway to take the bakery out of the house and onto the street! What a sweet treat!
