Our Greeter today was Jeff Kistler. Always a pleasure to talk with Jeff! President Dan Crane rang the bell at 7:30 a.m. We sang the National Anthem. As Dan explained later, he held the Pledge until the end of the meeting. Then Mike Henry gave a very nice invocation.
President Dan reminded us of the word from the country: “Just play, have fun, enjoy the game”, Michael Jordan.

Ginny Sandoval passed a copy of the Rotary “Health Check” - a satisfaction survey re: our club. All completed it and returned to Ginny.

President Dan made some announcements and presented updates re: our community service:
He received a note from Hilda Lewis regarding Al. He unfortunately fell in their home on Labor Day and required hip replacement surgery. He will be in in-patient rehab for three weeks. At this time, they do not know when they will be returning to Allentown. You can send a card to Al at: 77 Floodwood Rd., Saranac Lake, NY 12983
Dan showed a slide picturing our group that worked at Kingdom Life Food pantry last week. Thanks to all who helped.
The updated Dates to Remember sheet was on each table. Dan reviewed the upcoming dates with us and suggested that we all check them out on-line. Bill keeps the list current.
- Gloria needs another volunteer to help at the food pantry tomorrow.
- Today is the Leadership & Ethics conference. Gwen Pongracz organizes this on her own. It is a successful day for those who attend.
- Tonight is the Miracle League Halloween event. Thanks to Ginny and Becky Heffner for organizing the group of volunteers to be present and help the children enjoy the trick or treating.

- Saturday, Oct 22nd is the Purple Pinkie 5K race to support Polio Eradication. Please come and join the walkers/runners on Saturday. It begins at 8am and the race starts at 9:30am.
- October 28 is our Dining Out evening. We will be enjoying the food at the Bake Oven Inn.
- October 29 is the Foundation Seminar.
- Friday, November 11th, is Meals on Wheels delivery day!
We are taking donations for ShelterBoxes for those who were affected by Hurricane Matthew. Make checks out to AW Club Foundation and give to Dale Hostetter.
Our Program next week is to be given by Marti, our Youth Exchange student, who will introduce us to her country of Argentina.
Dottie Bloom asked who updates the contact list? Bill Palmer does if he is notified. However, Joe Goll suggested that we each update our own profile at the on-line AWRC website.
Just login and click an “Member Area” top right. Then scroll down two lines on the right column and click on “Active member List.” Click on the first letter of your last name, and then on your full name. This page is all about you. Click on any of the six menu items and edit your profile as needed.
LUCK of the DRAW:
Today’s door prize donated by Jeff Kistler was won by Mike Gschwendtner. Then Chris Blechschmidt’ s ticket was drawn and he was unsuccessful in selecting the black marble and did not win the $73 in the 50:50 pot.
FINES:
S-a-A Don Davis fined President Dan for not having his pin and badge and forgetting the Pledge to the Flag following our singing of the National Anthem. Dan said that he planned to do the Pledge at the end of the meeting (after being prompted by Bob Gordon to do so!) Herb Klotz paid to leave early. Don fined Gloria for having her picture in the Northwestern Press 3 times! Don also fined David Caccese, Steve LaPierre and Bob Gordon for talking while President Dan was addressing the group.
HAPPY DOLLARS:
Steve LaPierre gave a Happy Dollar for the great gathering at 8 Oaks recently. He thanked Ginny, Chad Butters and Mike Henry for their efforts.
He also gave a dollar to announce that tonight the Lehigh Valley Arts Council presents “Arts Count 2016,” an annual arts rally and grants ceremony, 5:30 p.m. Smooth-On is hosting this event,
We are invited to be his guest and get free entry!!! Smooth On is a company that does make-up for movies, etc. They will be exhibiting/demonstrating their Halloween scary makeup.
Bob Gordon relayed an interesting fact re: the $26.50 “Arch Klumph” donation to the RI Foundation 100 years ago. Today’s value of that amount of donation is over $500.00.
David Caccese also offered an interesting fact. In analyzing the historic most preferred avenues of communication by generation; the Greatest Generation preferred “Rotary”. Pretty cool given the more recent groups preferred electronic means, etc.
PROGRAM:
Our program today was a “fellowship” game presented by Ginny Sandoval. Each member was given a “bingo” card on which each square was a descriptor about a person. Example: Steelers fan or Prefers white to red wine. Members were challenged to talk with others and record the name of the person that “matches” that descriptor.
We could use each person in the group only one time. The first two to get a “bingo” included Jeff Kistler and won prizes. It was an enjoyable assignment and everyone kept milling around to fill in the complete card. Thanks, Ginny!!!
CLOSING:
We pledged allegiance to our flag and recited the saying “They profit most who serve the best.”
