Meeting Notes APRIL 29, 2015
Our Greeter this morning was Lise Twiford and she did an excellent job.
President Barbara rang the bell at 7:30 a.m. Jean Masiko gave a very nice invocation with special mention of Don Grammes.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Barb showed photos from our 4-22 meeting at Northwestern Middle School, including the Student of the month.
The annual D7430 Conference was held in Gettysburg last weekend, and Herb Klotz and the Webers represented AWRC with their outstanding presentations.
Our April Dining Out was on Sunday 4-26 at 6:00 P.M. joining with Emmaus Rotarians to put on a potluck dinner for the Friendship Exchange visitors from Wales. See separate article.
Snack packing at Northwestern is today. Volunteers are needed.
Barbara introduced Katherine Soldridge who is the Faculty Advisor to the Interact Club at Parkland HS, and thanked her for her hard work and support.
On behalf of the Interact Club of Parkland HS, Samantha Holender described their activities. They have about 30 active members and they are in their 2nd year packing snacks. They have a very efficient assembly line now.
They raised $200 selling lemonade. Then they raised another $100 selling bracelet for causes. They have $800 ready to go toward a ShelterBox, and expect to get the rest soon.
President Barbara presented a Presidential Citation to Samantha for their good work this year.
Barb introduced Jennifer Cedenoce and awarded her a scholarship to attend the 2015 RYLA (Camp Neidig) leadership camp this June.
Sue Weber introduced Sydney Philips who has been approved to be an outbound Youth Exchange student for next year. Sydney said she will be going to Reunion Island off the southeastern coast of Africa. They only speak French there. She went with the 30 YE students to Washington DC, and she attended last weekend’s district conference, and sang as part of the program.
Barb announced that today she has received $1,100 for new ShelterBoxes with more possible. Thanks Rotarians. It’s what we do.
Our next Thursday evening meeting at the Holiday Inn will be on May 14th.

Tempting Tastes is set for May 3rd; Mike Henry reports that we have 222 admissions so far, We now have 4 ballrooms and the patio reserved, and we have beer being donated.
May 16th is the District Training Assembly in Blue Bell at MONTCO CC starting at 8:00 a.m. Club officers and members are encouraged to attend. The fee is $30 which covers lunch. At 2:00 PM there will be an RI Foundation Grant Model training session for certification. Earlier Barb and Herb will be presenting AW projects. ALSO a session on fundraising will be held.
Friday May 1st is the Interact Club’s cupcake cook-off. Judges are needed.
Saturday May 2nd is the Ziegels Church Yard Sale from 9 to 1, reminds Gloria.
Saturday May 2nd is the Parkland Resource Fair at Asbury Church. AWRC will have a display table.
Joel Masiko is the scheduled Greeter for May 6th. Why Bees Matter is the program.
Sue said that the Youth Services committee will meet here May 6th after the regular meeting.
LUCK of the DRAW:
The door prize donated by Lise Twiford was won by Vasu. The $61 pot of the 50:50 was not won by Joel Masiko who selected a white marble. Then Don drew a ticket for 2 admissions to Tempting Tastes which went to Jean Masiko/ Then Don awarded 4 tickets to tomorrow’s Iron Pigs game to Lise to give away.
FINES:
S-a-A Don Davis fined everyone present a dollar who had not dined in one of our TT restaurants in the last week.
HAPPY DOLLARS:
Vasu is happy, since today was the first time that he won anything.
Pat Panfile is happy that her parents are in town and soon will be living here at Luther Crest.
Bill Palmer’s granddaughter won a gold and a bronze medal against 30 runners last Friday at the William Allen Invitational. She also won two first places in Monday’s meet against Liberty HS. And Shaina has been awarded a $1,500 scholarship from the AAUW of the Lehigh Valley.
Al Lewis is unhappy that he is leaving us until October to sun in the Adirondacks. And he is sad to be missing Tempting Tastes.
Gwen Pongracz is most happy because her son did his doctoral presentation at Lehigh and now holds his PhD.
Sue is happy for the wonderful Youth Exchange students, and also for Herb’s great presentation at the district conference.
Bill Weber is happy that he led the tour of the area with our Friendship Exchange Team here from Wales.
Barb noted that Lise Twiford has accepted a new position in Bryn Mawr.
Lise is happy that her grandson just turned five years old.
PROGRAM:
President Barbara introduced Bart Frankel, a Rotarian from the Springfield, NJ RC, D7510 to explain about the Alpine Education Foundation (AEF). Bart is a Parkland HS graduate, a graduate of American University, and now works in Financial Planning with Insurance.
The AEF is the product of anonymous donors that wish to promote education using scholarships. Their Mission is to support and enhance communities by contributing to the success of students seeking a higher education. They realize that Rotary clubs also grant scholarships and are willing to donate to a RC for awarding to local students.
Alpine Education Foundation will grant a scholarship award of $500 through each of the participating Rotary Clubs listed on their website. Anyone seeking to further their education, through Undergraduate, Graduate or Technical Studies are encouraged to apply.
Bart contacted Parkland HS and has 17 applications so far which he gave to Barbara for review. Next year we hope to expand to the other three schools that we support.
Bart also described an on-line MBA program that is available for a total fee of $4,500. This can be a RC fundraiser. If a candidate names our RC as they register, we will receive $500 for more good works.
CLOSING:
Barb hit the right note to start us singing a good rendition of “America the Beautiful” This was followed by the recitation of the Pledge to the Flag of the United States and then the saying “One profits most who serves the best.”
