President Herb rang the bell at 7:30 a.m. Dr. Bob Gordon gave a very brief and interesting invocation using Hebrew sayings and translating them.

Last Wednesday we did Snack Packs at Northwestern
On Monday February 29th evening there was an orientation held at the Holiday Inn for 5 new members. Another session is set for April.
On March 30th we will hold our regular breakfast meeting in the Library at Parkland H.S with the Parkland Interact Students. We would really like to get a good turnout of Rotarians to have fellowship with the Interact club. Please put this on your calendar
We will be helping at the Lowhill Food Pantry this Saturday Mar 5th. A few more Volunteers are needed.
Next Wed. March 9th we will be Snack Packing at Northwestern.
Our next Thursday evening Happy Hour meeting is on March 10th at the Holiday Inn in Breinigsville 5:30 to 6:30 PM. Come and enjoy and bring some friends.
On Friday March 11th we need volunteers for the Kingdom Life Food Pantry in the evening.

The annual Engineers Without Borders event will be on April 1st at DeSales University.
On April 2nd - Saturday - there is a Rotary Leadership Institute session in Media, PA open to us all. We strongly recommend our members, especially newer ones, to attend; and we pay your registration fee.

Our Caterer will begin rotating through four different hot breakfast combinations starting in April.
On April 13th our regular breakfast meeting will be at LCTI; and on May 18th at LCCC with our annual scholarship awards.
President-Elect Dan Crane attended two days of Rotary information last week at Mid-Atlantic PETS. He brought back some event info:
Pottstown RC are holding a B2B Mixer on Wed. March 16th. Some AW Rotarians are asked to attend in order to learn how they recruit new members so successfully.
Our District 7430 annual conference in 2017 will be at Eden Resorts in Lancaster on May 5th to 7th.
The RI 2017 Annual Convention -- always a treat -- will be close by in Atlanta, GA on June 10th to the 14th. We will celebrate the 100th Birthday of The Rotary Foundation all through the next Rotary year.
On March 5th Herb and 5 others leave for Sierra Leone. Two of them are from the Northwestern School District as part of one of this year’s District Grant.

ROTARIAN of the WEEK:
The AW “Rotarian of the Week” is Geoff Legg who describes his profession as “Financial Advisor.” He joined the Allentown RC in 1974, then due to a job change he went to the King of Prussia RC, and returned and joined A-West in 1980. For now he is the only AW two-time President, having served in 1984-85 and again in 2011-12.
Geoff has worked on many committees and now is the Chair of the AW Foundation committee. He always is proud to work on AW fundraisers. And he especially enjoyed flying with Bill Weber to New England to bring home live lobsters. He also noted that he was part of the effort in 1985 that changed our meetings to breakfast time.
LUCK of the DRAW:
The door prize donated by Mitch was won by Randy Beitler. Then Dr. Al Lewis’ ticket was drawn and he pulled out a white marble and did not win the $38 in the 50:50 pot.
FINES:
S-a-A Don Davis fined Gil Keller and Dale Dries for coming late.
HAPPY DOLLARS:
Al Lewis had some visitors last week and they toured all over the Lehigh Valley including Cabela’s and even Hawk Mountain, both big hits.
Halyna’s good news is that her very sick home computer was restored to good health by Brian Peterka.
David Caccese is extremely happy that his 13 year old son’s appendix was successfully removed last Thursday evening and the boy went back to school on Monday.
Dorothy is happy to report that Michaela now has her dress for the Prom.
Herb is happy that he learned last Friday that the Ardmore RC is committing $2,500 toward the Sierra Leone project. Herb will attend their meeting and be given a check.
Also Herb is happy that the 6 person team is off to Sierra Leone on Saturday March 5th. We can track their efforts on the EWB Facebook page.
PROGRAM:
Herb i introduced Rep. Mike Schlossberg 132nd PA Legislative District to speak about “Avoiding Social Media Disasters”. Mike is a Muhlenberg College graduate with an MA from Lehigh University. He also is a serious expert in all facets of Social Media, and wrote a book about it in 2004. In 2012 he became a member of the PA House of Representatives and now is in his second term
Social media is defined as websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking. Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Wikipedia, LinkedIn, Reddit, and Instagram are parts of Social Media (SM). Mike spoke about the good things and the right ways to use and work with SM. He followed with some things not to do.
Mike noted that Twitter is not growing much at all right now. LinkedIn is shrinking. But messaging is like Text Messaging on steroids. And - no surprise -- 50% of the users are under 29 years old. Snap Chat is the fastest growing right now.
The users of Facebook mostly are interested in pictures and videos, not just boring words. Facebook urges you to upload videos directly to them, rather than through a link with YouTube. It gets noticeably more viewing.
Mike recommends users be considerate of others and to limit talking about yourself to 10% of your items. Try to offer useful ideas to eventually support the notion that you are an expert in your field. Mile also noted that those having a business with employees need to have a written SM policy in place.
Mike recommends that you use the various Analytic evaluations available to see who is looking at what and when. And always post only positive views. And avoid complaining on SM. He also says that when you get someone’s business card, don’t just file it; check the person’s LinkedIn profile.
Some things not to do is posting stupid comments or stupid pictures. There are many dumb people doing dumb stuff; don’t be one of them. And be sure you are properly trained in the uses of the parts of SM. It is real easy to click on the wrong thing and send something to the wrong party.
And remember --- Nothing is ever private, if it is digitized!
CLOSING:
