Our Greeter today was Randy Beitler and he did a marvelous job.
President Mike Gschwendtner rang the bell at 7:30 A.M. to open the meeting. Rev. Jeff Kistler gave a very nice invocation with special mention of the Mexican earthquake victims.
President Mike began the meeting having the members recite the Five-way Test with the fifth question, “Is it Fun?” We recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag of the U.S.
GUESTS:
Becky Haviland, a Youth Exchange host; and Alicia “Ala” Mikulska, our Youth Exchange student for this academic year.
President Mike showed photographs from our last meeting including last week’s speaker, Guy & wife Linda Bieber, plus two tables of members enjoying their breakfasts, Then we saw Thursday Evening’s meeting at St. Luke’s Fitness Center, and Friday evening’s Dining out at the Queen City BBQ where Chris Blechschmidt sampled everything. Then there was Snack Packing at Northwester and Gwenn & Gary.

DICTIONARY PROJECT 2017:
Amir Famili, Chair; reported that he now has $1,000 in cash donations and more are welcome. The dictionaries are ordered and he can use some more volunteers.

Race Director, John Scott, says we are on track but more gift cards are needed. The focus now also is on registration.
MEMBERSHIP MINUTE:
Pres. Mike alerted us all to the real facts. For many valid reasons, AWRC will LOSE UP TO TEN members as this year progresses. We have a recruiting Mixer set for Wegman’s on November 2nd, and all members are urged to bring new member candidates. Bill Palmer e-mailed ‘Ten Tips for Recruitment” to each member to keep us thinking.
“ALA” OUR Y.E. STUDENT:
Sue Weber introduced Ala who has been in the area for over a month. Ala said Hello and that she has been looking forward to visiting the U.S. for a long time. She will tell about herself in a month or two.
MIRACLE LEAGUE HALLOWEEN PARTY:
We NEED a lead person to make this annual support event happen. We have some volunteer workers lined up.
FRIENSHIP EXCHANGE AUGUST VISIT:
Bill Weber reports that he and Sue plus 4 other Rotary couples visited Sweden starting on Aug 22nd. They were well received and visited 5 local RCs, and Bill presented Pres. Mike with a RC Banner for our collection. The Swedish Rotarians will visit our district next Spring in time for the District Conference, AWRC families will be hosting them.

Our Greeter will be Dorothy Bloom and the program may be a visit from our District Governor, Rick Gromis.
President Mike introduced our S-a-A Mitch Huston who conducted the raffle drawings.
The door prize bottle of wine was donated by Randy Beitler and it was won by Jean Masiko.
The $107 pot of the 50:50 WAS WON by Ralph Witcher’s ticket. There now will be a full bag of marbles.
HAPPY DOLLARS:
Ray Stock and Jeanne had a great trip to Tanzania, and he thanks Dr. Dan Crane for giving him sore back relief before they went.
Marlene Ritter is happy to report that she attended a conference in Denver last week at which our Lehigh Valley Hospital received an award as the 8th best Academic Medical Center in the whole U.S.
Bob Gordon is happy that once again his work has been published in a leading Psychiatric Journal.
Chris Blechschmidt is happy that Ala is with us now. He and his family will be her host in a few months.
Ginny and David Sandoval are celebrating 23 years of marriage. And Ginny is happy to be here.
John Scott is celebrated the Autistic Children’s Playground Center at the South Mall.
Jeanne Shipe had an interesting trip last weekend working on her genealogy down in the Delaware area.
PROGRAM:
Our program today was our own Geoff Legg giving his “Re-Classification Talk. He labels himself as “Life Insurance, and Beyond.”
Geoff was born in Allentown in 1944. He grew up in New Jersey and at age 14 he was a champion Skeet Shooter. And he recalls that his grandfather took him fishing many times, and that he has traveled the U.S. having missed only 2 or the 50 states.
Geoff spent two years at Valley Forge Military Academy and then attended Muhlenberg College. Then he served in the U.S. Army. He married Karen and they have a daughter, Kim an M.D. and a son, Geoff Jr. And they have grandkids R.J. and Kammy.
Geoff’s early careers included Sales of early telephone answering machines and then to Equitable Life starting in 1969. After six years he was promoted to Agency Manager, and then in 1980 he left Corporate life and started his own business.
Geoff discussed what he does and also why he does it. When asked what he does, his reply is “I help people make smart decisions about their money.” He has been focused on Asset preservation as a Financial Advisor, and the proper use of Disability Insurance. And he loves giving seminars and always learns from them
Geoff is a long time member of AWRC and served as our President twice over the years.
