SPECIAL BIRTHDAY REMEMBERED:
Thanks to Gloria Zimmerman a birthday card was circulated for signatures today. The card is for Mrs. William (Miriam) Masters who will be turning 98 years young on May 10th. The Masters were very active in our Club years ago with William being responsible for starting the Interact Club at Northwestern and he served as Advisor for many years.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Masters were teachers in the Northwestern School District for many years and retired from there. We wish Mrs. Masters our best on her 98th birthday.
29 COOKS TREATED US:
These people were with us last year and will be part of our Tempting Tastes 2 event on May 15th. They came to today’s meeting with some great samples of their food. Cindy and Kevin prepared them, and Cindy explained what they do and the other services they provide. Note that there really are not 29 cooks there. They are located on Route 29.
TWO NEW MEMBERS INDUCTED:
Both Cindy and Guy Rosevelt were inducted as members of AWRC at last Thursday’s evening meeting. See separate article.
The AWRC headcount now includes 71 Active and 7 Honorary.
NORTHWESTERN HS STUDENTS DONATE FOOD ITEMS:
Wednesday April 27th Gloria received a phone call from the Class of 2019’s Advisor Nicole Zimmerman. The Class had many boxes of snacks left over from a fundraiser. They wanted to donate what they had left for the snack pack program at Northwestern.
They delivered them and we used them last week and will do so for the remainder of the year. Gloria asked Nicole if we could use these snacks for the summer snack pack program that will be run thru the Lowhill Food Pantry. She gladly approved. Any remaining snacks will be used at the Pantry for their other Clients.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Last Wednesday we had 17 volunteers snack packing at Northwestern Lehigh HS.
Wednesday and Thursday last week we volunteered at the Lowhill Food Pantry.
The next Youth Services Committee meeting is scheduled for TODAY May 4th -- after our regular meeting.
May 6th the TT2 committee will meet at the Holiday Inn and do a walk through.
May 7th is the Ziegels Church second annual Yard Sale fundraiser and also the Ontelaunee Park work gang, and Lowhill Food Pantry --- LOWHILL NEEDS VOLUNTERS !
May 11th is snack packing at NWL HS.
May 12th is the next Thursday Evening Happy Hour meeting at the Holiday Inn.
May 13th is volunteer time at the Kingdom Life Center.
May 14th is the District Training Assembly at DeSales University. All new committee members are urged to attend. Registration is on-line at $31 each.
May 15th is Tempting Tastes 2. Buy tickets and also sell to others, please.
May 17th is the Million Dollar Journey Dinner in King of Prussia. RI President “Ravi” is the keynote speaker. Tickets are $45 each.
May 18th our meeting is at LCCC with our annual scholarship awards.
June 6th, Sunday at 1:45 P.M. we need volunteers at the Miracle League baseball game. Try it; you will feel gooood.
We need more donations of liquor items for the basket of cheer to be auctioned off at TT2.
At our June 8th and 9th meetings Herb and Dan will provide a financial review and plan for AWRC.
Next week our scheduled Greeter is John Scott, and the program will be Dr. Roger Whitcomb, PDG discussing America and Islamic Terrorism: What Are We To Do?
HOST FAMILIES FOR Y.E. STUDENT NEEDED:
In order to have an Inbound Youth Exchange student assigned to AW Rotarian care for the 2016-17 school year, we need to have at least two -- preferably three -- host families committed to this in the next few weeks. They do not have to be Rotarians. We have one host signed up in the Northwestern S.D. so we need at least 1 more. Or we can do this with two from the Parkland S.D.
ROTARIAN OF THE WEEK:
The AW Rotarian of the week program has been ongoing for about 10 months, and President Herb has no more official entries. So today he extends his and our thanks to Joe Goll, our club Secretary, and to Mike Henry our Fellowship Committee Chair and the “Pig Roast King.”
LUCK of the DRAW: --
Today Bob Gordon won the prize bottle of something donated by Donna Beach. Dr. Bob promptly donated it to the TT2 basket of cheer.
Then Mustafa Jaffer’s ticket was drawn and he pulled out a white marble and did not win the $191 in the 50:50 pot. The odds are getting better, folks- now only 4 marbles left.
FINES:
Substitute S-a-A Geoff Legg fined Herb for early bell ringing, Jeanne Shipe and Ralph Witcher for late arrival, and Bob Gordon for leaving early.
HAPPY DOLLARS:
Barb Kistler said that the Tri-Cees singing group performed last Monday, and have agreed to perform here at Luther Crest for the residents next Monday, May 9th at 7:00 PM.
Mike Henry likes the title and wants “King” added to his ID Badge.
David Caccese extends his thanks to the members of the International committee for meeting with Dr. Suprun on April 29th about the Ukraine project.
Hope Pearson is happy to report that three kids ran the race in the rain last Sunday.
Al Lewis and Hilda are leaving on Saturday for their other home in the Adirondacks. They will return in October.
Ralph Witcher says he did hear the bell this morning.
PROGRAM:
Our program today was led by Gwenn Carr and Gary Englehardt featured the TT2 committee members explaining all about this upcoming major fundraising event.
It takes an entire RC to plan and execute this huge event. The committee alone has 22 members.
They demonstrated the fantastic involvement of so many club members by asking for a show of hands for “Who bought tickets?” and “Who got sponsors?” and other things notable. Then we reviewed the list of the 11 vendors signed up to provide food and drink at TT2.
Jean Masiko confirmed that six Interact students from Parkland HS are scheduled to work at TT2. NOTE: We still need AW volunteers to help on Sunday May 15th. Please contact Gwenn, Gary or Len.
Gwenn said that we have 155 items to be auctioned off. A list of them was distributed and can be sent via e-mail too. Then came the 10 question quiz.
Each table of Rotarians competed to give the correct answers, and winners received a ticket each time that can be entered into a raffle at TT2.
We need another 70 tickets to be purchased to get us to our goal of 300 this year. Let’s make that happen.
CLOSING:
Ralph Witcher hit the right note to start us on a nice rendition of “God Bless America.” Then we recited the Pledge to the Flag of the United States and then the saying “One profits most who serves the best.”
