Meeting Notes September 2, 2015
Our Greeter this morning was 
Brian Peterka and he did an excellent job.
President-Elect Dan Crane rang the bell at 7:30 a.m. Chuck Ehninger gave a very nice invocation reminding us that a smile is a gift.

YOUTH EXCHANGE STUDENT INTRODUCED:
Mike Gschwendtner introduced Michaela Luzicova from Sala, Slovakia. Michaela came bearing gifts, including a bottle of her grandfather’s Schnapps whish was auctioned off. She said “I love America.” Today she registers for school. She will be our program at our October 28th Wednesday meeting.
LUCK of the DRAW:
The door prize donated by Brian was won by Joe Goll. The $30 pot of the 50:50 was not won by Wendy Weaver who selected a white marble.
FINES:
S-a-A Don Davis fined Keith for no pin, and Geoff and Candi for early departures.
HAPPY DOLLARS:
Chuck is happy for 47 years of marriage with Judy. And they are heading to London, England for a week to visit with their son and daughter-in-law.
Sue is happy that Michaela has come to be with us.
Dale Heffner has so much experience moving his daughter from TX to MD a few months ago, that this weekend he gets to move her from MD to Alburtis until her military husband knows his next assignment.
Wendy is happy to announce that yesterday they received a training contract for Ohio.
Dawn is happy that her granddaughter came in at second place in a cross country race.
Bill Palmer is happy that his granddaughter has done cross country training for two weeks and the first competition is this Saturday.( Don made me say this.)
Joe is happy that he and Peggy will go to Kansas City and be there for their grandson’s first birthday party.
Wendy was happy to be the successful bidder for Michaela’s Schnapps,
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Our next Thursday evening meeting will be September 10th at 5:30 PM at the Holiday Inn in Breinigsville.
Gloria said they really could use some help at the Snack Packing that begins again at Northwestern Lehigh SD on September 9th at 2:45 P.M. The Interact students are not lined up yet.
September 11th is the Tempting Tastes II first planning meeting and it will be at the Jordan Lutheran Church starting at 7:30 a.m.
Friday September 25th is our next AWRC Dining Out and it will be at Louie’s, one of our Tempting Tastes sponsors.
The Ontelaunee Park work detail is scheduled for Saturday September 26th: see Dan Crane.
The Rodale Park work detail is scheduled for Saturday October 10th; see Dan Crane.
The Halloween Party at the Miracle League is October 21st. Volunteers are needed. Tell Dale Heffner.
Volunteers are needed at the Lowhill Food Pantry for Sept 5th and the 16th and 17th. It is very rewarding.
Member training in all things Rotary is a goal for this Rotary year. And attending RLI (Rotary Leadership Institute) sessions is one excellent way to get it. The registration fees will be reimbursed after attending Part I; you just need to take the time to go.
The Saturday Nov 7th event at the Radisson in King of Prussia is the one we mostly attend. Also there are sessions in Cherry Hill, NJ on Friday Oct 9th, and in Wilkes-Barre on Saturday Nov 14th. Go to www.rlinea.org or see herb.
GOLF OUTING -- The Emmaus RC is holding their Golf Outing at Brookside CC on Monday September 14th.
President Herb asks us all to e-mail him about any announcements to be made at future meetings so he can include them as part of his planned agenda.
The AW “Rotarian of the Week” is Wendy Weaver! Wendy is a Business Administrator working mostly with non-profit organizations. She joined Rotary in order to again give back to the community. She really liked the warm welcome here at AW Rotary.
Next week our scheduled Greeter is Ray Stock and the program will be District Governor Nominee Rick Gromis, D7430 Membership Chair.
PROGRAM:
Dan introduced Wendy Weaver to present her Classification Talk. Using some slides Wendy told us about her travels down a long and winding road. She began by noting that last week she experienced a perfect vacation with lots of swims in the lake. And coming to our meetings also is relaxing and fun.
Wendy’s Dad was a P-47 fighter pilot, and her Mom was a nurse, during WW II. They later lived in Bird-in-Hand, PA, and Wendy was born in Lancaster. She has a 4 year older sister who produced two nieces and each is married and each has two children. Later Wendy said that her Father built, owned and operated Dunkin Donuts shops in Easton, Bethlehem, etc.
Wendy was married at one time, and she has a 34 year old son who has a great wife. Her son has an MBA.
Wendy attended Penn State in Happy Valley and is a lifelong football fan. Her first degree was in Social Work. She added 135 hours of training to be a Coach. Her first job was in the V.A. Hospital in Altoona. Then she worked for six years at the Valley Youth House in Bethlehem. And she earned an MS Degree.
Wendy got married and moved to Chicago. Later she returned to the Lehigh Valley and became the Director of Alternative House in Orefield that dealt mostly with delinquent boys. After three years the group was merged into Kids Peace.
Next Wendy worked for 18 years with Visiting Health & Supportive Services in Hunterdon County in NJ. They were caring for chronically ill patients, sick children, and the homebound elderly in the comfort of their own home. Her journey then took her to being a Consultant preparing strategic plans that led to the position of Director of Corporate Development for 5 years.
Then Wendy worked with Everyday Life which has unique programs for eligible long term care. She worked with Medicare, Medicaid, provided meals and transportation. They are on Gateway Dr. in Bethlehem. After three years of 70 hrs. a week, HoverTech got her back.
Wendy has now been with them for the last four years. They deal with safe patient handling devices and the devices care and training of users. Check their website. They do Webinars and Conferences. That new contract is for the 13 module training program. She still does Quality Assurance work too.
Some states are very aware of these needs; others are not. There is Federal legislation in the works but years away.
Wendy loves music, baking, gardening and will travel anywhere any time.
CLOSING:
Halyna hit the right note to start a rendition of “God Bless America.” This was followed by the recitation of the Pledge to the Flag of the United States and then the saying “One profits most who serves the best.”
