Meeting Notes MAY 13, 2015
Our Greeter this morning was Jerry Frank and he did an excellent job just as Herb said he would.
President-Elect Herb rang the bell at 7:30 a.m. Chuck Ehninger gave a very nice invocation.

NEW MEMBER INDUCTION:
Chad Butters and his sponsor, Bob Nagle, came forward. Chuck Ehninger did the formal induction of Chad as an Active member of AWRC. Welcome Chad, and thanks for your help so far.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Herb noted that right now we are one new member short of making President Barbara’s goal for this Rotary year. So let’s go, people!
Mike Henry announced that the Tempting Tastes fundraiser held on May 3rd did not generated the $15,000 that Gary said last week. It seems that we will net $27,000 when the dust settles, all for our 2015-16 Youth Services programs. Take a bow, folks.
New member Orientation was held last Thursday for Sally, Dottie and Chad.
Herb showed photos from the Rodale Park clean-up crew from last Saturday. They set a new speed record. This was our 21st year and Dan was there for them all.
Our next Thursday evening meeting at the Holiday Inn will be tomorrow, May 14th.
The Snack Packing at Parkland is this afternoon and will be again on May 27th.
This coming Saturday, May 16th is the District Training Assembly in Blue Bell at MONTCO CC starting at 8:00 a.m. Club officers and members are encouraged to attend. The fee is $30 which covers lunch. At 2:00 PM there will be an RI Foundation Grant Model training session for certification. Earlier Barb and Herb will be presenting AW projects. ALSO a session on fundraising will be held.
DO NOT COME TO LUTHER CREST next Wednesday, May 20th. The meeting will be at LCCC. It is our annual meeting to award 9 scholarships to students from four area schools. At LCCC go to Room 207 in the Community Services Building.
Sunday June 7th is our day to help at the Miracle League baseball game. Some Interact students will be there to help too. We need volunteers.
Gwenn Carr is the scheduled Greeter for May 20th. Scholarship awards are the program.
LUCK of the DRAW:
The door prize donated by Jerry was won by Vernon -- at long last. The $85 pot of the 50:50 was not won by Mike Henry who selected a white marble.
FINES:
Substitute (again) S-a-A Geoff Legg fined Lise Twiford for shaking us up by coming early. He fined Jeanne Shipe for being late, Bob Gordon for interrupting him, and new member Chad Butters paid a dollar for not having a Rotary pin on when he arrived -- he wasn’t a member until about 8 a.m. today.
HAPPY DOLLARS:
Herb is happy that the Engineers Without Borders team is in the Dominican Republic right now. They are making a plan to get fresh water to two small villages.
Lise is doubly happy. She starts her new job on Monday. And by doing much driving she got to see her children on Mother’s Day.
Bob Gordon is happy that two of his former students in China now have come here for a visit.
Dan is happy that his crack team of Rotarian mulchers did such a fine job at Rodale Park last Saturday. See other article.
Jerry Frank is pleased to report that his granddaughter is a great softball player for Parkland, and she hit 2 triples, drove in 2 runs and scored twice in Tuesday’s game.
George Ikeda’s grandson at Maryland has been selected as the best defense player in the Lacrosse League.
PROGRAM:
Our program today was a Special Club Assembly to allow members to complete individual surveys about how we each look at AWRC’s strengths and weaknesses. Mike Gschwendtner explained the process and how the results will help guide the plans for the next few Rotary years.
As a start Mike e-mailed copies of the survey questions to each RC member in advance. This made it easier to fill them out today. Members not attending today are requested to complete their survey form and get them to Mike G. by e-mail or hard copy in the next week.
Mike also distributed a sheet with four specific questions about AWRC operations. Each table was asked as a small group to discuss the questions and write down the resulting ideas. Mike will issue a report of the survey findings shortly.
CLOSING: Herb hit the right note to start us singing a good rendition of “God Bless America” This was followed by the recitation of the Pledge to the Flag of the United States and then the saying “One profits most who serves the best.”
