We sang the National Anthem while we watched, on screen, Kristina Garcia-Santiago do an American Sign Language translation, and then recited the Pledge of Allegiance.

Reminders and Announcements:
An email went out to club members outlining Future Dates to Remember. There were print copies available at the meeting.
One date was not included on the list, which is for the Miracle League Halloween Event. This will be held on 10/19/2016. See Dale Heffner for details.
Don’t forget about the Dictionary Project. It only costs $50 to sponsor a classroom. Contact Bob Nagle. Also we are reminded that Bob would like to step down from his role with the project. Anyone who is interested in taking on that role should call or email Dan Crane.
Chuck Ehninger reminded us that we have until the end of September to submit applications for the Rotary Service Award. To date he has not received any nominations.
Herb Klotz advises that we still need door prizes, sponsors, participants/helpers for the Purple Pinkie Race. Signs are available for advertising.
Mike Henry gave an update on the Pig Roast. 9/16/2017 is available at Ontelaunee Park for next year’s Roast.

Joe Goll was fined for being 8 seconds late – or did Dan Crane ring the bell 8 seconds early?!?!
Ginny Sandoval’s ticket was picked for the door prize bottle of wine donated by Dale Heffner. Then Ginny drew Stan Drabik’s ticket for the 50-50 drawing. Unfortunately, the black marble did not make an appearance.
Jean Masiko announced that St. Johns UCC in Fogelsville sent a check for $209.60 which was collected in change by their youth. This money is for Snack Packs that feed hungry children.
Jean also reminded us that Kingdom Life Food Pantry is providing food for Snack Packs.
Ginny tells us that our Youth Exchange Student, Marti wonders when recess will be!! She also tells us that Marti is very sweet and very helpful.
Mitch Huston could use some help at the Non-Profit Awareness Expo this Saturday at the Lehigh Valley Mall from 1:00-3:00. He also graced us with yet another funny joke. Keep ‘em coming Mitch.
Herb Klotz advises that a meeting for the formation of the new Whitehall-Coplay club will be held Tuesday, 9/13 at the Whitehall Library @ 7:30 am.

Herb Klotz, our District 7430 Membership Committee Chair, and Ginny Sandoval, our AWRC Membership Chair, did a nice presentation on Membership – The Future of Rotary.
Some of the highlights were:
Herb interviewed Club Presidents who were in office during years where their club saw 5 or more new members in the year, to find out what they were doing to promote membership. One thing they all stated that Membership is a Strategic Objective. 100% - Membership is “Strategic” Objective
65% - Held Event(s) targeted at membership recruiting
55% - Active Community Public Relations Campaign
55% - Proactive New Member engagement program
45% - Multiple meeting times (Extension club)
The Rotary International Council on Legislation met last April and some major changes occurred. Rules are much more flexible and each club has discretion on many of them.
The Rotary Definition pf who qualifies as members is: Adult persons who demonstrate good character, integrity, and leadership; possess good reputation in their business, profession and/or community, and are willing to serve in their community and/or around the world.
District Goals for 2016-17 are to start 2 new clubs and to have 100 net increase in new members..
RC possible rule changes:
Minimum meeting frequency - twice a month
Service Events, Monthly Socials, online meetings all can count as meetings
Defined by the club
- Additional Membership Types
Associate, Corporate, Family, …
- Rotaract members can also be Rotarians
Allentown West Membership Goals:
- 75 Active Members by June 2017 (currently 68)
- Increase Diversity of Members
- Implement active mentorship program. New member sponsor will also be his/her “mentor”
- Commence "Engagement" rituals such as regularly scheduled Fellowship/Networking meetings in place of regular meeting, include fun team-building exercises, and seat change-ups
- Hold at least three networking/recruiting events
- Engage 90% of active members in service projects
- Improve Orientation Program/Implement Online Version
