Our Greeter today was Jean Machamer and she did a marvelous job.
President Mike Gschwendtner rang the bell at 7:30 A.M. to open the meeting. Jean Machamer gave a very nice invocation.
President Mike began the meeting having the members recite the Five-way Test with the fifth question, “Is it Fun?” We recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag of the U.S.

Amir Famili is this year’s chair and he is asking for donations and also for assistance in adding labels and staging the books for delivery.

Jean Machamer asks for sign-ups for Friday evening at 6:00 P.M. on September 15th at Queen City BBQ, 27 N 7th St, Allentown --- where Shula’s used to be on the Arts Walk. Ron Coleman says the wings are good.

John Scott, Race Director, reports that some sponsors have signed up, and that about $10,000 has been promised with $30,000 more needed.

President Mike introduced our “Entertainment chair”, S-a-A, Mitch Huston to perform his “Magic.”. Mitch then collected “Guilt” dollars from members without pins, etc. Later Jean Masiko fined President Mike for misspelling her name on his slide.
LUCK OF THE DRAW:
Our Sergeant-at-Arms, Mitch Huston, conducted the raffle drawings.
The door prize was a $15 Wegman’s Gift Certificate donated by Jean Machamer and it was won by Bill Palmer.
The $58 pot of the 50:50 was not won by Jean Masiko’s ticket. There now are seven marbles remaining.
HAPPY DOLLARS:
Wendy Weaver “googled” her college roommate from 40 years ago and reconnected with a meeting, lunch, and laughs.
John Scott is happy and blessed with a great vacation with the family pulling a trailer for 5600 miles visiting Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone National Park, and other places.
Ernie Boll suggested that each Phillies fan pay a dollar for encouragement.
Bill Palmer noted that there still are only 8 new cases of wild polio virus so far this calendar year.
PROGRAM:
Our program today was two students who attended the Camp Neidig (RYLA) weekend last June. This year AWRC sponsored 4 students, one being Marti our Youth Exchange student from Argentina. Today we had Northwestern students Adriana Walp and Anna Kapvew telling their experiences in June.
Adriana began by thanking AW Rotarians for making it happen. It was lots of fun. The students were separated with Girls in one area and Boys in another. They were assigned to tribes such as Apache, and lived with about 8 in a rather rustic cabin. Each tribe had its own Counselor. And they said that the food was good.
Camp Neidig is the D7430 Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) annual event for High School seniors. It is a leadership camp that brings together talented high school students for a four-day weekend of fun, friendship, and team-building activities.
Campers interact with guest speakers from various professional backgrounds who discuss what it means to be a good leader. They also participate in various problem solving activities that can be both physically and mentally challenging.
Every activity done throughout the weekend is designed to help campers develop their leadership and teamwork abilities. It is true what someone once said: "We come as strangers but leave as friends."
This year’s event was Friday June 16, 2017 through Monday June 19, 2017. It brought together 145 students from various schools in our 5 county district who have exhibited above average leadership abilities in various scholastic and/or community activities. Campers are sponsored by their local Rotary Clubs, which coordinate camper selection with high schools in their districts.
Today’s Campers showed pictures and talked about the speakers, the different workshops, and the challenging leadership exercises. They both said that it was a good and useful experience. They prepare skits for the Monday evening Closing Ceremony. They have a chorus that performs on Monday evening. And they produce a Yearbook recounting the whole weekend.
CLOSING:
We closed the meeting by reciting the saying “One profits most who serves best.”
