President Herb rang the bell at 7:30 a.m. Chuck Ehninger gave a very nice invocation with special mention of Mustafa Jaffer’s Father.
GUESTS: Michaela Luzicova, our Y.E. student and Dave Dries (Spring Township RC). Shirley Randell was with us as well.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Herb reported that on Oct 31st he attended the annual District 7430 RI Foundation Seminar and Peace Forum. He helped tell the snack pack story. The Peace Forum was very interesting, and the keynote speaker at noon was Philadelphia Police Commissioner, Dave Ramsey.
Today, Nov 4th is Snack Packing at Northwestern Lehigh at 2:45 PM.
The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is open for registration for the November 7th session in King of Prussia. This experience is highly recommended for all members, especially newer ones. Your registration fee will be reimbursed to you. Go to rlinea.org
Meals on Wheels volunteers are needed for November 11th. Meet at Trinity Church at 10:30 a.m. See AJ and sign up please.

December 4th at 6 P.M. is the AW Holiday Party at Brookside CC in Macungie. The cost is $45 pp with a cash bar. There will be 4 entrée choices, with a $15 premium for filet mignon. AJ and Mike are handling the reservations.

SHELTERBOX CAMPAIGN:
Our effort to help address the Syrian refugees’ needs is to conduct an independent fundraising effort through November and December to go towards ShelterBoxes.
CHRISTMAS GIFTS for FOOD PANTRY CLIENTS:
Gloria reported that AW Rotarians have committed to the furnishing of 30 gifts, each valued at $20. Further details will follow. Thanks to all.
REQUEST FOR RC BANNERS:
Herb asks that we give to him any RC banners from other RCs we can part with that we have accumulated over the years. They are part of our history and he has a plan to exhibit them in some way. Jeanne suggested that they be digitized as well.
AWRC NOMINATIONS:
Barb Kistler as Chair of this year’s committee is seeking members to run for Vice President in 2016-17. Also we need an Assistant Treasurer to work with Dale Hostetter who claims he will retire on June 30, 2017.
MEMBERSHIP EVENT:
We will hold a Membership Information Recruiting Mixer type reception on Thursday evening, January 14th 2016, probably at the Holiday Inn in Breinigsville. Stay tuned. Growing our membership is our top priority going forward.

LUCK of the DRAW:
The door prize donated by Stan was won by Dale Hostetter, who then was asked a Rotary question that, if answered correctly, would put his ticket back for the 50:50 drawing. Unfortunately, Dale thought AWRC’s first meetings in 1962 were at lunchtime; they actually were dinner meetings at Shankweiler’s Hotel.
Another historical “goodie” revealed by Pres. Herb was that we have been closing every AW Rotary with the same words since we were chartered in 1962: “One profits most who serves the best.”
The $184 pot of the 50:50 was not won by Dr. Fedoriw who selected a white marble from 4 choices.
FINES:
S-a-A Don Davis fined Pastor Candi and Gil Keller for lateness, and Herb for having the wrong date on a slide.
HAPPY DOLLARS:
Gloria paid a dollar to have Vern tell his voting story. Vern did and we laughed. But the back of the room could not hear him. So by popular demand, and with the microphone, Vern told it again -- and we all laughed.
When Vern entered hid new polling place yesterday to vote, he filled out the slip with his name and date of birth and gave it to the man with the books. The man looked at the slip, looked at Vern, and loudly proclaimed “Holy Christ, you’re 95 years old!”
Sue is happy to report that the Jordan Lutheran Church have given a check for $930 toward the snack pack program, possibly due to the presentation Sue made there a few weeks before.
Sue also extends to us all, the greetings from the Hilton Head Sunrise Rotarians.
Dale Hostetter is most happy to report that it has been 84 months since wife, Mae was diagnosed with Cancer and she stills does good things.
Jean Masiko announced that they now have their first Great Grandson whose last name is Masiko. He arrived yesterday.
Candi paid to say it is nice to be back. And she said that if anybody has noticed that Don Davis is “glowing” it’s because last Sunday was All Saints Day and she included Don in that class.
Rev. Jeff Kistler paid $7 for having turned 70 years old last Sunday.
Ihor is happy to report that Dawn now is home, and she says “Hello.”
ROTARIAN of the WEEK:
The AW “Rotarian of the Week” is David Caccese, who has been serving as a Financial Advisor since 1994. He currently is First VP of Wealth Management for Janney Montgomery Scott, llc. David became a Rotarian in December of 2013. This year he became Chair of the RI Foundation committee, and recently became co-chair of the new International committee.
PROGRAM:
President Herb then turned the meeting over to David who began by reminding us that November is Foundation Month in the Rotary world. Then David recognized 4 members with their latest Paul Harris Fellow (PHF) awards. Mike Gschwendtner, first award; Len Salines PHF + 2; Sue Weber and Chuck Ehninger each PHF + 5.
RI will be celebrating 100 years of the Rotary Foundation (TRF) from the Seoul So. Korea convention in 2016 through to the 2017 convention in Atlanta, GA.
David told us that the Mission of The Rotary Foundation (TRF) is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty. He then explained that all projects funded by the RI Foundation must fall into one or more of the six areas of focus, which are:
Promoting Peace Fighting Disease
Providing Clean Water Saving Mothers and Children
Supporting Education Growing Local Economies
An example of promoting peace was last Saturday’s Peace Forum in Blue Bell. Addressing disease certainly is our signature project of eradicating Polio from the world. And our teacher grant and Centennial school projects in Sierra Leone are examples of supporting education.
David discussed “E.R.E.Y.” which is a promotional approach for giving to TRF that stands for “Every Rotarian, Every Year.” There are many ways to give. Some RCs have an optional line on the dues statements where members can donate to TRF that way. “Rotary Direct” is a method many use to have regular donations charged to a credit card throughout the year.
It’s important to note that TRF has a four star top rating by Charity Navigator. About 92% of every dollar donated goes to projects.
David also noted that in our RC a member can have the donation matched dollar for dollar up to $200 each Rotary Year as long as the funds last. The goal to the Annual Fund this year is $10,000 and we are at almost $6,000 now. Last year we did $14,000.
David noted that donations to TRF usually are designated to The Annual Fund-SHARE, but also can go directly to PolioPlus, the TRF Endowment Fund, or other specified funds. The Annual Fund (AF) is the one we mostly use because its monies are split 50:50 each year into “The World Fund” and “District Dedicated Funds (DDF).” The latter comes back to us after three years and helps finance both District and Global Grants.
CLOSING:
Halyna hit the right note to start a nice rendition of “God Bless America.” This was followed by the recitation of the Pledge to the Flag of the United States and then the saying “One profits most who serves the best.”
