Herb showed some pictures of his back-packing trip in the Vermont mountains last week by incorporating them as background in today’s info slides.

The October Dining Out is at 6:00 PM on October 23rd at the Curious Goods at the Bake Oven Inn at 7705 Bake Oven Rd, Germansville, PA 18053, also a supporter of Tempting Tastes One. We have 32 so far. There will be four entrees to choose from, salmon, short ribs, chicken or steak.
Saturday October 24th is Purple Pinkie Day !!
The annual District Foundation Seminar is on Saturday, October 31st and Herb is going and asks that at least one other AW Rotarian go and hopefully stay for the Grant Certification session.
Nov 4th is Snack Packing at Northwestern Lehigh at 2:45 PM.
The Lowhill Food Pantry volunteering dates are Nov 7th, Nov 18th and Nov 19th.
The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is open for registration for the November 7th session in King of Prussia. This experience is highly recommended for all members, especially newer ones. Your registration fee will be reimbursed to you. Go to rlinea.org
District 7430 Regional Membership Workshop is Tuesday Nov 10th at Brookside CC in Macungie.

The International committee will meet here today Wed. Oct 21st at Luther Crest at 8:45 AM.
Dictionaries need to be delivered to the schools and presented to the third-graders. Contact Dale Hostetter to join in this heart-warming experience. It will be a weekday at your convenience.
President Herb asks us all to e-mail him about any announcements to be made at future meetings so he can include them as part of his planned agenda.
Next week our scheduled Greeter is Gloria Zimmerman and the program will be a Fellowship Meeting + Student of the Month.

CHRISTMAS GIFTS for FOOD PANTRY CLIENTS:
We are calling it “Pantry Presents.” The goal is to have each client of the pantry age 15 or less receive three Christmas gifts, each about $20 in value. Ages and suggestions will be supplied by the FP people. Please contact Gloria by October 31st if you plan to donate a gift or money.
ROTARIAN of the WEEK:
The AW “Rotarian of the Week” is Dr. Ray Stock, Veterinarian. From 1985 to 2003 Ray was a member of the Allentown Liberty Bell RC. One of his proudest Rotary moments was working on the tree planting project on Hamilton Street.
From 1975 to 2002 Ray ran a Small Animal Hospital in Bethlehem. In 1998 he sold it, and left it in 2002 to take a position in the U.S. House of Representatives as an American Veterinarian Fellow.
In AWRC Ray is known for always being involved in all of our projects,
LUCK of the DRAW:
The door prize was won by Michaela. The $147 pot of the 50:50 was not won by Keith Koepke who selected a white marble from 6 choices.
FINES:
S-a-A Don Davis fined Dale Heffner for leaving early, and Dorothy Bloom and Joe Goll for late arrival. Then Don tried to fine President Herb but lost those negotiations. So he turned to Al Lewis who happened to take 3 tickets in error this morning. He got a dollar from Al.
HAPPY DOLLARS:
Dale Hostetter is happy that AJ and Mike helped place the stickers in the dictionaries.
Mike Henry is pleased to announce that their neighborhood Pig Roast raised $1,300 for the Food Pantry. They have topped $7,000 so far.
Jeanne Shipe is happy to be back from a week of work followed by two weeks of visiting in the mid-west and being conflicted at the Penn State football game.
Michaela says that she is grateful to be part of this great Rotary club
Bob Gordon gave $2 for something so mysterious that it was not recorded.
Bill Palmer is having another birthday on Sunday. We sang Happy Birthday.
Herb was happy that he had a great week hiking in the Vermont mountains.
PROGRAM:
President Herb led us in a Club Assembly by reviewing this year’s AW Rotarians’ goals.
Our membership target is 65 active and we are at 61 now.
Another goal is to have at least 45 members involved with various Service projects. So far we have 36.
We want to have all members participate in some Fellowship events. So far 42 members have done so.
There are 39 members on club committees.
The number of members that are engaged in something besides a regular meeting is 54 which is great.
The goal this year is to have 10 members who have not sponsored a candidate to do so. Only 1 has been added so far.
Under Leadership Development we have 4 attending RLI sessions.
And we have six members who hold roles in the district.
We are great with so many Community Service projects.
Also we do very well with our Youth Service with a Y.E. student, Students of the Month, 4 to Camp Neidig, dictionaries and the Speech Contest and more.
We need to do more in Vocational service , but we have some underway.
In International service we also do OK with 2 Grants and running the district Purple Pinkie Race.
Fundraising has been very good.
Our PR efforts have been OK, as we move to add Social Media. Also we have a goal of adding a Marketing person to the PR committee.
Our efforts to grow attendance and membership for our new Thursday evening meetings need the most work.
Our support of the RI Foundation is good with about $4,000 donated to the Annual Fund so far toward our $10,000 goal. And there is $350 or more going to PolioPlus soon.
There are some challenges in our earning the RI Presidential Citation this year. The requirements are very comprehensive. Having most of our members with accounts in MyRotary at rotary.org is one goal. We have already completed the Mandatory items. The hardest part is in membership development, which we are working on.
Chad Butters held discussion about Social Media coming to AW. Adding Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and maybe a Linked-in profile, enhances our abilities to get our message out to the community as well as potential new members.
The first three are in place right now. And AWRC now has an e-mail address, and we have a permanent street address for “snail mail.” And our weekly newsletter is a good part of our communications work.
All members can help make this all work for us by:
Help feed the media by taking event pictures and adding a caption and sending them to Chad, A.S.A.P. Time is important.
Feed as much info as possible that promotes our goals, and do it as often as you can. These new sites are hungry and need feeding to maintain viewer interest.
Share with your “friends” posts that come to you. Also indicate when you “like” on Facebook.
Chad said that Fleetwood RC has a good Facebook site as an example. Our goal is to have 3 new posts each week and work toward five.
CLOSING:
Halyna hit the right note to start a nice rendition of “God Bless America.” This was followed by the recitation of the Pledge to the Flag of the United States and then the saying “One profits most who serves the best.”
