President Dan Crane rang the bell at 7:30 A.M. to open the meeting.
Ernie Boll gave a very nice invocation.
The assembled voices sang a good rendition of our National Anthem along with a video. And we said the pledge of Allegiance.
President Dan says the word from the country is “There is only one boss. The customer. And he can fire everybody in the company from the Chairman on down, simply by spending his money somewhere else.” SAID Sam Walton.

President Dan showed many slides of photographs from our last meeting starting with our speaker, Dr. DelVecchio. Tina Buss’ induction as our newest member and last week’s Snack Packing. Gloria Zimmerman presented the Charter for the new Snack Pack Community Corps including the Lowhill Food Pantry folks.
A NEW OPPORTUNITY FOR SERVICE:
June 17th, Saturday, we can volunteer at the Lehigh Valley Zoo for an event which features children's activities. Barbara Kistler will keep a list of volunteers and folks can sign up for two hour blocks of time from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. We will be helping with the children's activities/crafts or helping with the animal exhibits. Deadline is June 3.

AND, of course, you always can have your breakfast at our meetings sitting with Arch Klumph for a donation of $26.50 --- or more --- to the Rotary Foundation. Over half of our members have done this.
A Thank You note came from a 2017 AW Scholarship recipient, Stephanie Klotz. She is attending Pitt University in the Fall.
Our AWRC application for a 2017-18 District Grant has been OK’d by the District Committee and will now go to RI for approval.

Gwenn Carr is happy that her granddaughter ran in a race.
Dale Heffner is happy that he and Becky will be visiting their son and his family in Alaska for two weeks later this month.
Dale also is happy to have Bob Gordon flying to join him in Alaska for 3 days of Salmon fishing.
David Caccese is happy to be back after much traveling. He also is happy that his oldest son is graduating High School this evening. And he is happy that his younger will graduate 8th grade.
Ray Stock is happy about something.
Jean Masiko extends thanks to Ray, Herb Klotz and Dale Hostetter for picking up food at the Kingdom of Life food pantry. She thanks Ray for taking on the Parkland Snack Packing chores for the next academic year.
Gloria Zimmerman is happy that the Northwestern snack packing is done for this year.
Herb Klotz had a great time walking about 200 miles of the Virginia portion of the Appalachian Trail. He also is happy that this evening we will Charter the new Upper Perkiomen RC.
And Herb is most happy to learn that the Parkland HS students now have raised over $12,000 to help finance students to attend the Centennial School in Sierra Leone.
Ronnee Klotz is happy that they will be visiting family in North Carolina to celebrate birthdays.

PROGRAM:
Today our program was Past President Herb Klotz presenting the Allentown West Rotary Club Financials for the 2016-17 Rotary year..
Herb described the AWRC budget as having three components. First is the Operating budget; second is the AWRC Foundation; and the third is the RI Foundation accounts. The operating portion includes about $24,000 right now, and the AW Foundation has about $27,000.
The Revenue feeding into the Operating Fund are the Dues each member pays; the 50:50 earnings; Happy Dollars; overhead dollars in meal prices; and a bit from the Thursday Evening meetings.
The Expenses paid out from the Operating Fund include the dues to RI for each member; the matching dollars for member donations to the RI Annual Fund; annual cost for ClubRunner software; Membership events; Advertising and PR; subsidizing attendance at RLI; Annual Service Award; Monthly stipend to the Youth Exchange student; and guests of the club.
Next, the AWRC Foundation is established as a 501 ( C ) 3 so donations are tax deductible for the IRS. In recent years our Tempting Tastes fundraiser event has netted about $30,000 into the AW Foundation. Others are member donations such as for Dictionaries and for ShelterBoxes. Also we use this foundation to process District Grants. And each year 5% of the Reserve fund is paid into the AW Foundation for expenses.
The AWRC rules call for a Reserve fund into which 10% of the net funds raised -- those not designated to a specific cause -- into the Reserve. And in each July 5% of the Reserve comes back. And there is a provision to use more of the Reserve in unusual or emergency circumstances.
Expenses paid from the AW Foundation include Snack Pack costs; dictionaries; ShelterBoxes; 4 students to Camp Neidig; Ukraine Grant costs; Students=of-the-Month gift cards; cash for produce for Lowhill Food Pantry; donations to Kids of Character and Meals on Wheels.
75% of the funds $20,400 last year went to Lehigh Valley Youth Programs. Half of this was for student scholarships.
Herb emphasized that BOTH the AW Foundation and the RI Foundation serve BOTH locally and globally.
Donations to the RI Foundation’s Annual Fund from our members total $12,000 to $15,000 each year. This generosity benefits AW Rotarians when we apply for District Grants and Global Grants.
Conclusion: AWRC finances are in very good shape. The three funds right now include about $90,000 to which will be added TT3 monies. Soon incoming Treasurer Chris Blechschmidt will review with us the plans for 2017-18.
