Reminder that the Bethlehem Rotary Club will be holding their Taste and Tunes THIS Sunday 10/2 at the Hotel Bethlehem.
The Fleetwood Rotary Club has a similar event on 10/6 at Moselem Springs Golf Club.
We are still looking for help to drive Vern to the meetings. Joe Goll said he can drive him home if people can take turns getting him to the meetings. Let Joe know if you can help.
Mitch Huston and Ray Stock talked to someone from Whole Foods who seems very interested in helping out with Snack Packing and Food Pantry donations.
Hope Pearson is looking for someone to help her coordinate activities with the Northwestern Interact Club and attend their meetings which are the 2nd and 4th Fridays each month
The Purple Pinkie 5K Race for Polio eradication is still in need of volunteers and door prizes.
Gloria Zimmerman needs help with Parkland Snack Packing on the 3rd Wednesday of the month.
David Caccese reminds us we are still looking for people to attend the District Foundation Seminar on 10/29 at the Montgomery County Community College. The Grant Management Training and Certification is good for 3 years. Don’t forget that the club will reimburse you for your registration fee.
David also let us know that there will be a Ukraine Project committee meeting at Good Shepherd on 10/7. He will send an email announcement.
Don’t forget about the Meet and Greet at 8 Oaks Distillery on OCTOBER 5th from 5:30-7:30 PM. Please help get the word out.
Dorothy Bloom reminds us that the Meals on Wheels delivery day will be 11/11 (Veterans Day).

RI FOUNDATION GIVING INCENTIVES:
There are 2 programs open right now.
1. David Caccese reminds us that we are nearing the end of the designated amount for matching cash funds. Remember the funds will be matched up to $200 for donations to the RI Annual Fund.
2. The District 7430 is running a program to encourage NEW donors. If you are donating for the first time and give $100 to the RI Foundation Annual Fund, the District will assign 100 Recognition Points to your account toward a Paul Harris Fellow award.

Ray and Jeanne Stock celebrated their 40th anniversary and revisited several aspects of their honeymoon….including a trip to Quebec.
Jeff & Barb Kistler were in Germany and visited the family of a previous AW Exchange Student, Micah. Unfortunately they did not get to visit with her as she was in Mexico getting Spanish training. Also Jeff will be interim pastor at Ziegel’s UCC.
Gwenn & Gary are going to St Thomas to celebrate their 15th anniversary.
Halyna Stegura is back from Hawaii but her fit bit thinks it’s still there. She tells us there is a Rotary meeting on the cruise ship.
Mitch Huston told us another zinger dentist joke and advised us that there are 3 cars in the parking lot with expired registration stickers!!
Sue Weber reflected on how the exchange students bring awareness to Rotary and thanked Jeff for visiting Micah.
Joe Goll’s granddaughter turned 4 months old on Sunday and her brother is about to turn 2 years.
Dave Dries was happy that he and Beverly a few weeks ago spent 15 days in Alaska including a Princess Cruise.
PROGRAM:
Today’s Speaker was Diane Irish & Becca Middeke-Conlin discussing Family Promise.
Their website starts off by noting : This year in America, more than 2.5 million children & their parents will experience homelessness.” This is followed by “We are Family Promise -- Transforming the lives of homeless families. Because every child deserves a home.”
In the United States today, one child out of five lives in poverty. Families with children make up 40% of the people in this country who experience homelessness. “Our mission is to help homeless and low-income families achieve sustainable independence through a community-based response.”
Poverty is a complex problem. It won’t yield to a simple solution. It requires an integrated approach that reaches beyond immediate needs. “We initiate coordinated local efforts that bring communities together to help homeless families regain their housing, their independence, and their dignity.”
Family Promise of Lehigh County seeks to provide assistance and support to homeless children and their families by providing meals, lodging, and mentorship so that the family can obtain affordable housing and stability.
Family Promise is still looking for Host Sites as well as a facility to serve as their Day Center. They now have their 501 ( c) 3 IRS status. And they almost have four host sites committed, and need four more at least to get started.
Families will use the Day Center from 8:00 – 5:00 to shower, care for pre-school children and seek employment. This will serve as their address and be home base, and will provide Internet service.
Host Sites provide overnight lodging, meals, and hospitality about 4-6 times a year for one week at a time. Currently UCC Greenawalds, Jordan UCC, S. Joseph the Worker, and St. Luke’s Lutheran are Host Sites but more are needed.
Family Promise also is looking for volunteers to provide a variety of services such as: cooking and serving meals, playing with children or helping them with homework, and staying overnight.
You can help by getting the word out, liking them on Facebook, attending a planning meeting (once a month), and making arrangements for them to speak to your church or organization.
