Meeting Notes APRIL 8, 2015
Our Greeter this morning was AnnaJean Henry and she did an excellent job.
President Barbara rang the bell at 7:30 a.m. Pastor Candi Cain-Borgman gave a very nice invocation.
GUESTS: Cindy and Kevin Feldman of 29 Cooks in Emmaus; and Evening meeting member Sally Frank was with us.
Cindy Feldman explained the contents of the 29 Cooks take-home food snacks at each place setting. And she told us that they are the Lehigh Valley’s only Culinary Center. They Specialize in Private Culinary Coaching for adults and kids, couples coaching, Junior Chef Culinary Camps and Fun Experience Adult Social and corporate Classes. Their passion is to teach people to follow their own palate to creating recipes that fit their tastes.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Sally Frank will be formally inducted into AWRC at tomorrow’s evening meeting at the Holiday Inn.
Engineers Without Borders (EWB) this Friday April 10th will hold their silent auction at the DaVinci Science Center. Register on-line or pay at the door.
April 18th is Ontelaunee Park clean-up. Meet Dan Crane there at 8:30 for coffee and donuts.
Our April Dining Out will be on Sunday 4-26 at 6:00 P.M. joining with Emmaus Rotarians to put on a potluck dinner for the Friendship Exchange visitors from Wales. Location is Legacy Oaks in Macungie – Dale Utt lives there. AW Rotarians are asked to bring a bottle of wine or a dish to pass.
April 22nd’s meeting will be at the Northwestern Lehigh Middle School with Dr. Mary Ann Wright speaking, and we will award the Student of the Month for April. Roberto Reyes and the Interact club members will be with us.
Here’s where to go: Northwestern Lehigh Middle School, 6636 Northwest Road, New Tripoli, PA 18066. The fee is $10. Go to the rear parking lot and enter thru the rear door.
May 16th is the District Training Assembly in Blue Bell at MONTCO CC starting at 8:00 a.m. Club officers and members are encouraged to attend. The fee is $30 which covers lunch. At 2:00 PM there will be an RI Foundation Grant Model training session for certification. Earlier Barb and Herb will be presenting AW projects.
Bob Nagle is the scheduled Greeter for April 15th. The program is Dr. Charles Gardner speaking about robotic milking of cows. It should be udderly fantastic.
LUCK of the DRAW:
The door prize gift of Peeps donated by AJ was won by Jeff Kistler. The $14 pot of the 50:50 was not won by Barb Kistler who selected a white marble.
FINES:
S-a-A Don Davis fined Bob Gordon for being late. He also fined Bill Weber for his picture appearing in the April issue of Gary’s Gazette.
HAPPY DOLLARS:
Dan was happy that Cindy and Kevin provided the great snacks and came to our meeting.
Gwen Pongracz is happy to have produced her twelfth issue for the children.
Mike Gschwendtner is celebrating his birthday. And we sang a good rendition of Happy Birthday.
Gary – and most in members – is very happy that there will NOT be a Tempting Tastes Committee meeting this Friday, 4-10.
Bill Palmer’s granddaughter Shaina placed first in the 3200 meter race at an Invitational meet in Cumberland last Saturday.
Joe Goll is happy that the family gathered on Easter Sunday and his grandson was baptized.
Sue Weber is happy that she has been able to sell some admissions for Tempting Tastes.
Barb is happy that so far the Purses for Polio campaign has brought in over $300 and there still are some to buy. The unsold inventory will go to Gloria for the yard sale fundraiser.
PROGRAM:
Today’s program was Gwenn C. & Gary E. “Count Down to Tempting Tastes: 3 weeks & 4 Days.” It began with Dan Crane suggesting that getting family and neighbors to attend is a good approach.
Gary described the Holiday Inn arrangements and noted that we will be using the outside patio as well as the big room. We plan a silent auction, and maybe even a live auction. And we have four Honorary Co-Chairs.
Gary explained that there will be a red carpet entrance and a photographer present to capture in digits all of our Rotarians in their finery. Photos will be available on scene and on-line.
Mike Henry said that he needs volunteers to help make things happen properly during the event. Mike G. is leading logistics and needs some volunteers to come a couple of hours early to help put the special touches on the tables. Herb needs some volunteers to help put out the silent auction items. SO PLEASE VOLUNTEER !!
Gwenn discussed the many restaurants and vendors who will be providing the fabulous “Tastes” at the event. See the orange sheet that was on the breakfast tables.
Mike Henry reports that 90 admissions have been purchased so far, with many more promised. It’s time to get others to sign up.
Hold the date -- Tempting Tastes Two will be held on May 15, 2016.
CLOSING:
President Barbara hit the right note to start us singing a good rendition of “God Bless America.” This was followed by the recitation of the Pledge to the Flag of the United States and then the saying “One profits most who serves the best.”
