LOWHILL FOOD PANTRY:
Today was our monthly collection for the Food Pantry and $214 was donated.
Dan showed some pictures of last week’s Snack Packing at Northwestern Lehigh, and also of the AW work crew at Rodale Park last Saturday. See separate write-up about Rodale.

The annual District Foundation Seminar is on Saturday, October 31st and Herb is going and asks that at least one other AW Rotarian go and hopefully stay for the Grant Certification session.
The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is open for registration for the November 7th session in King of Prussia. This experience is highly recommended for all members, especially newer ones. Your registration fee will be reimbursed to you. Go to rlinea.org

President Herb asks us all to e-mail him about any announcements to be made at future meetings so he can include them as part of his planned agenda.

ROTARIAN of the WEEK:
The AW “Rotarian of the Week” is Sue Weber. Sue was a teacher for 5 years and then a Guidance Counselor for 28 years at Parkland. She and Bill have operated a Christmas Tree farm for many years.
Sue started a Rotary Ann’s club to support AWRC back in 1985. She joined AW in 1997 and has been our president and currently is in her third year as Area 1 Assistant Governor. The Webers have hosted two Youth Exchange students, and have traveled to Australia and Turkey as part of a Friendship Exchange team. She serves on the AW Youth Service Committee among others, and is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow.
LUCK of the DRAW:
The door prize donated by Jean was won by Ray Stock. The $127 pot of the 50:50 was not won by Joel Masiko who selected a white marble from 7 choices.
FINES:
S-a-A Don Davis fined returning Al Lewis for wearing his other Rotary Club badge -- a contested decision. Geoff paid for leaving early. And Gary is leaving a little bit early.
HAPPY DOLLARS:
Gloria is happy because Gwenn copied Ihor’s idea and brought a bag of toiletries for the Food Pantry.
Halyna is happy to be celebrating 41 years of marriage to Mike.
Alicia is happy that her Mom in Mexico is doing better. Alicia was there for 8 weeks.

Sue is happy to have Michaela with us again whom Sue thinks is a wonderful guest.
Al Lewis -- after cooling off from the earlier unjust fine -- gave 3 happy dollars. He’s glad to be back, glad to be away from the Adirondacks’ snow, and thinks AW Rotarians are great.
With a little urging from S-a-A Don, Bill Palmer told us that granddaughter Shaina has competed in cross country for the Johns Hopkins team in Orlando last Saturday where they took top honors.
PROGRAM:
President-Elect Dan introduced our 2015-16 Youth Exchange student from Slovakia -- Michaela Luzicova, who is 16 years old, and has been in the U.S.A. for 47 days, and is enjoying everything.
Michaela is from a very small town about an hour from the capital. She has a nice house and a large garden that takes a lot of work. She has two brothers. For the last two years she has attended school taught entirely in Spanish. She loves Biology, chemistry and mathematics. She studied in Spain for a month and has kept in contact with a girl friend from there.
Michaela is a very active person; she does not just sit and does not watch TV. She loves cooking and baking, and playing all sports like swimming and cross country.
Slovakia is a central European country known for its dramatic natural landscape and many castles. It is bordered by the Czech Republic and Austria to the west, Poland to the north, Ukraine to the east and Hungary to the south. Slovakia's territory spans about 49,000 square kilometers (19,000 sq. mi) and is mostly mountainous. Their flag is blue, red and white as can be seen in the photo.
Near the Austrian border, the capital city Bratislava features a pedestrian-only Old Town with a lively cafe scene. Rising on a hill above the Danube River, Bratislava Castle houses a branch of the Slovak National Museum, with displays from Roman artifacts to 20th-century arts and crafts.
Slovakia was part of the former Czechoslovakia and now is a member of the European Union. Their currency is the Euro, and their national language is Slovak.
At home Michaela eats 5 meals each day with something mid-afternoon and also at 10 PM. She mentioned a favorite cheese from sheep’s milk. She also mentioned potato dumplings and cabbage. They have good wines, good beers, and her grandfather supposedly makes a good form of gin. And she mentioned three Slovakian hockey players that currently play on U.S. professional teams.
Michaela played a video for us that showed many beautiful scenes of the mountains and countryside, and the cities and castles with great varied architecture. She also gave us a multiple choice test to see if we were listening. Barb Kistler managed to achieve 8 of a possible 12 points to win a prize.
CLOSING:
Halyna hit the right note to start a nice rendition of “God Bless America.” This was followed by the recitation of the Pledge to the Flag of the United States and then the saying “One profits most who serves the best.”
