We sang the National Anthem along with Dan Wright, The One Man Quartet again today and recited the Pledge of Allegiance. We then received a very nice invocation from Rev. Jeff Kistler.

Chuck Ehninger reminded everyone that we have until the end of September to nominate someone for the Rotary Service Award.
David Caccese gave a reminder about the club matching up to $200 for contributions to the Rotary Foundation. And don’t forget about Arch……….$26.50 to the Rotary Foundation will get you breakfast with Arch.
Wendy Weaver gave an update on her niece (slow progress) and brother-in-law (starts chemo and radiation on Monday) and asks for continued prayers.
Herb Klotz gave an update on the Purple Pinkie 5K District Race and reminded us of the need for sponsors, participants, prizes and advertising. He has signs available.
Next week’s meeting will be a special Membership Meeting with Ginny Sandoval and Herb Klotz. Dale Heffner will be our greeter.
50-50/Door Prize/Kudos/Happy Dollars:
Chuck Ehninger won the door prize this morning. Then Hope Pearson gave it her best shot to pick the black marble…..but it eluded her once again.
We had lots of Happy Dollars celebrating Bill Palmer’s return to the meeting. So wonderful to have him back.

Gwenn Carr is traveling to Ireland to see her daughter run in a marathon and they are hoping for “light rain.”
Hope Pearson went zip-lining with her father and daughter (who will soon be turning 13).
Bill and Sue Weber soon will deliver our Youth Exchange student Marti to Ginny Sandoval who is her first host family.
Vern Fenstermaker announced that he had made a decision to stop driving.
Jeanne Shipe was late and paid a fine.
Sue Weber had a Happy Dollar for Bill Palmer since he picked up the expenses for the AW annual picnic.
PROGRAM:
Our Speaker today was Edgardo Colon, Chief of Police for Upper Macungie Township. He has a very impressive resume and he gave a very interesting and informative talk on the Good Neighbor Coalition that focused on community relations between law enforcement and the commercial and residential entities within Upper Macungie Township and beyond. Chief Colon explained that the goal is to promote safety within the township by coordinating efforts between residents, visitors and commuters, the trucking industry and local businesses and industry.
Some of the safety issues are snow on trailers, disregard for the law and posted signage, road damage, crashes, drives who are lost, overweight and unsafe commercial vehicles….to name a few. Many residents are frustrated, angry and have much concern especially as it relates to children and school busses.
The Chief shared some of the more dangerous areas in the township including:
Route 100 & Schantz Road
Route 100 & Penn Drive
Route 100 & Tilghman Street
Tilghman Street & Blue Barn Road
Millcreek Road & 222 By-pass
Grim Road & 222 By-pass
There are nearly 7,400 trucks that travel Route 100 and almost 19,500 that travel I78 on a daily basis.
Strategic Objectives include: Safer roadways, reduction of commercial vehicle crashes, Officer safety, improving traffic flow, reducing complaints and resident concerns, identify, address and correct adverse driver behavior and reduce disruption
of commerce.
