ANNOUNCEMENTS:
On Friday June 10th we had 7 volunteers at the Kingdom of Life Food Center.
TONIGHT June 15th is the Young Professionals Networking event put on by the Chamber of Commerce. We will co-sponsor their June 15th event along with the Allentown RC.
June 15th and 16th is volunteering at Lowhill Food Pantry.
June 20th, Monday evening, is the annual Camp Neidig BBQ and closing ceremony. It always is great. Buy your tickets on line.
June 23rd is the next Thursday Evening Happy Hour meeting at the Holiday Inn. It will be a fellowship hour, and all are urged to bring some guests.
June 24th Friday is Dining Out at 29 Cooks in Emmaus; price is $25 per person, and we will be treated to a BBQ Blowout menu. BYOB.
June 29th Wednesday at our regular meeting we will conduct our annual Changeover. Let’s all attend to welcome Dan Crane as our next President. Bring family and friends. WE WILL START AT 7:15 A.M. !!!
July 28th -- THURSDAY -- In place of our Happy Hour meeting will be our monthly Dining Out at Italiano Delite in Macungie.
Next week the scheduled Greeter is Dan Crane and the program will be a Classification Talk by Ralph Witcher.

NEXT YEAR’S COMMITTEES:
Each AW member is asked to contact each committee chair , if you want to serve during the 2016-17 Rotary Year. There are lots of wats to serve. Dan Crane asks that you respond to his e-mail.
NEW LV RC:
The District Membership team will start an all new RC in the Whitehall area. It will involve the support of some established Rotarians in nearby Rotary clubs. Please contact Herb if you would be willing to get involved in making a new club happen.

LUCK of the DRAW:
Today’s door prize of two bottles of wine donated by Gwenn Carr was won by Dan Crane. Then Bill Weber won the right to draw a marble for the $30 50:50 pot and did not win.
FINES:
S-a-A Don Davis fined Dan Crane for no pin – again. Then he fined Herb for swearing -- even though unintentionally. Also Ihor Fedoriw and Geoff Legg had no pins in evidence.
HAPPY DOLLARS:
Geoff Legg and Karen are celebrating 50 years of marriage.
Barb and Jeff Kistler, enjoying retirement, went biking in southwest Virginia last week and had a great time.
Barb also paid homage to all the Fathers as we approach Father’s Day this Sunday.
Jeanne Shipe has become a member of the Paul Harris Society. Thank you, Jeanne.
Mike and AJ Henry and friends leave tomorrow for a 5 day 1000 mile trip into NY State. Mike rides his motorcycle and AJ is in the “Chase” car.
Cindy Hornaman is happy to be with one of the District’s best Rotary clubs this morning.
Bob Gordon is happy to have had a great gig in Rome, Italy last week. His presentation impressed them enough so that he now will speak at Oxford University in England in the Fall.
Joe Goll is struggling to survive these days since Peggy is in Kansas City with the kids.
PROGRAM:
Our program today was all about Engineers Without Borders providing a Sierra Leone Update. Herb introduced Carl Zvanut and Chris Hornaman of EWB, both of whom traveled in March to the Centennial School in Matru. Herb has known and worked with them for years at Air Products. March was Carl’s second trip, and Chris’ first to Sierra Leone.
Carl began by thanking AW Rotarians for their long-time continuing support of the many projects for the school. EWB has had folks traveling there eight times since January of 2010. Their next trip is set for January of 2017 and they will be electrifying the Library.
The March 2016 trip was all about installing hardware to provide electricity to the Administration building. Herb Klotz led a team of students in installing the wiring and outlets in the Admin. Building. They also put in a charging station for the Teachers for their laptops and cell phones. And they replaced older fixtures with LED lights for longer life and brightness.
Another crew had strengthened the roof structure in advance of this trip. And solar panels were installed on the roof this time.
Sustainability of these improvements is of paramount importance. Most everything is expected to have a 25 to 30 year life -- except the batteries which go about 5 years. The school has hired a full time maintenance person who is very serious about his work and has learned a lot.
While there they tested the well water quality which is fine, but has some harmless discoloration. There is a Government agent that is involved now as well. Centennial School is the ONLY school in Sierra Leone with running water!
They showed pictures of their work, including a platform that makes it easier to slide the solar panels on the roof into position. They also have “Chicken Ladders” made of steel to allow safer working on the roof.
There is excellent involvement by the parents to support all of these projects. They all know and appreciate what EWB and Rotarians have done to help. Chris noted that as he travels through Africa he often sees Rotary projects .
CLOSING:
Halyna Stegura hit the right note to start us singing a nice rendition of “God Bless America” Then we recited the Pledge to the Flag of the United States and then the saying “One profits most who serves the best.”
