LUCK of the DRAW:
The door prize bottle of wine donated by Gloria was won by Steve LaPierre. The $165 pot of the 50:50 was not won by Barb Kistler who selected a white marble from 6 choices.
FINES:
S-a-A Don Davis fined Marlene for being late and Mary Anne Wright for no Rotary pin. Don then fined all members not wearing something for Halloween.
HAPPY DOLLARS:
Halyna is happy to report that after a month, Dawn Costello finally is coming home from the hospital.
Mary Anne is doubly happy. Her son survived some changes ending with a job promotion; and she works with a fabulous Northwestern Lehigh School District.
Bob Gordon apologized to Steve LaPierre for spilling scotch on him the other evening.
Al Lewis is happy today because he walked inside from his quarters to the meeting, and not out in the rain.
Barb Kistler extended thanks to Herb and the Purple Pinkie committee for Saturday’s great event.

Jean is happy that the Church put her picture up.
Mike Henry is happy that last Friday was a great Dining Out event. He also noted that November’s Dining out is on our own as Thanksgiving. And December’s Dining Out is our Dec 4th Holiday Party at Brookside CC.
Marlene is happy to announce the upcoming free Flu Shots at Dorney Park and at Coca Cola Stadium.
Ray Stock is happy that wife Jeanne won a race the other day.
Dottie Bloom was delighted to meet Herb’s “Grand-puppy” at the 5K Saturday.
Dan Crane is triply happy with something Geoff did, Purple Pinkie Day, and he forgot the third thing.
Bill Palmer notes that today’s e-Bulletin will be the longest one on record. A-West Rotarians are doing so much, and having so much fun and taking so many pictures.
Don Davis then asked all to each pay a dollar to have Steve LaPierre sing his own words to a song about the Lehigh Valley and from Jim Thorpe to Paradise, town names. He has a good voice and made us laugh a lot.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
The newly revised AWRC Rack Cards now are available at the front table.
The Parkland Snack Packing last week involved 18 Interact students and 9 Rotarians, and they assembled 169 packs.
Last Wed. was the Miracle League Halloween party; see separate write-up.
Gwen Pongracz last week led the two-day Lehigh Valley Leadership & Ethics conferences at DeSales. There were 160 Eighth graders one day, and 80 Eleventh graders the next. Herb and Chad Butters attended to tell the Rotary story.

Last Saturday was the district-wide 5K event to raise funds to eradicate Polio. This was followed by a district Interact Student Round-up. See separate articles.
SPECIAL AWARD CEREMONY:
Chris Blechschmidt was called forward and presented with his first place medal in his age group for the 5K race on Saturday.
T-Shirts from the Purple Pinkie 5K race are on sale for $10 each. See Herb.
Lisa Miller took the first place medal overall last Saturday with a time of 19:58.
So far the proceeds from the PP5K are about $6,400 which will be credited to the sponsoring RCs and donated to PolioPlus.
Nov 4th is Snack Packing at Northwestern Lehigh at 2:45 PM.
The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is open for registration for the November 7th session in King of Prussia. This experience is highly recommended for all members, especially newer ones. Your registration fee will be reimbursed to you. Go to rlinea.org
Meals on Wheels volunteers are needed for November 11th. Meet at Trinity Church at 10:30 a.m. See AJ and sign up please.
Our next Thursday evening meeting is November 12th at 5:30 PM at the Holiday Inn in Breinigsville. Bring your friends. NOTE, that in Nov and Dec we will meet on the 3rd Thursday -- not the 4th, because of the holidays.
The annual District Foundation Seminar is on Saturday, October 31st and Herb is going and asks that at least one other AW Rotarian go and hopefully stay for the Grant Certification session.
Nov. 18th is Snack Packing at Parkland HS.
The Lowhill Food Pantry volunteering dates are Nov 7th, Nov 18th and Nov 19th. Volunteers are needed.
District 7430 Regional Membership Workshop is Tuesday Nov 10th at Brookside CC in Macungie.
December 4th is the AW Holiday Party at Brookside CC in Macungie. The cost is $45 pp with a cash bar. There will be 4 entrée choices, with a $15 premium for filet mignon. AJ and Mike are handling the reservations.

CHRISTMAS GIFTS for FOOD PANTRY CLIENTS:
We are calling it “Pantry Presents.” The goal is to have each client of the pantry age 15 or less receive three Christmas gifts, each about $20 in value. Ages and suggestions will be supplied by the FP people. Please contact Gloria by October 31st if you plan to donate a gift or money.
REQUEST FOR RC BANNERS:
Herb asks that we give to him any RC banners we can part with that we have accumulated over the years. They are part of our history and he has a plan to exhibit them in some way.
AWRC NOMINATIONS:
Barb Kistler as Chair of this year’s committee is seeking members to run for Vice President in 2016-17. Also we need an Assistant Treasurer to work with Dale Hostetter who claims he will retire on June 30, 2017.

ROTARIAN of the WEEK:
The AW “Rotarian of the Week” is Bob Nagle, who is a retired Superintendent of the Northwestern Lehigh School District, and a School Consultant. Bob joined Rotary in 1992 and has chaired many committees over the years, including dictionaries, Business Person of the Year and the Luther Crest Christmas event.
He was the first Chair of the AW Foundation Board.
Herb noted that Bob came over from the “dark side” when he relocated from Easton and a “Key” club. One of Bob’s proudest Rotary accomplishments is the building of the Ontelaunee Park Band shell.
QUIZ:
Herb held a two question mini-quiz. First we were to name the RC that sponsored us in 1962. It was Allentown and Herb explained the confusion with Emmaus.
The second question was who donated the Lectern at the Charter meeting. It was Emmaus RC. Herb then displayed that very table-top Lectern. Mike Gschwendtner saw it on Craig’s List and Herb bought it. It has a small plaque on it saying from Emmaus RC June 22, 1962.
PROGRAM:
President Herb declared today’s meeting to be an extended fellowship meeting. So all of the foregoing was our program. Nicely done.
CLOSING:
Halyna hit the right note to start a nice rendition of “God Bless America.” This was followed by the recitation of the Pledge to the Flag of the United States and then the saying “One profits most who serves the best.”
