Our Greeter today was Jean Machamer and she did a marvelous job.
President Dan Crane rang the bell after 7:30 a.m. and was fined --- again. We sang the National Anthem, and said the Pledge of Allegiance. Rev. Jeff Kistler gave a very nice invocation.
President Dan reminded us of the word from the country: “The worst thing about new books is that they keep us from reading the old ones.”

President Dan showed a slides of a can construction that Chris Blechschmidt explained was part of a fundraiser that generated tons of food items for Second Harvest. Dan showed pics of Y.E. student, Marti, from last week, and one of AW Rotarians at Dining Out last Friday at the Bake Oven Inn. See separate article.

Ralph Witcher is happy to report that Jean Machamer is the best Greeter he has ever seen.
Bill Palmer is happy to report that granddaughter, Shaina, took first place in the 6K Cross-country in Haverford last Saturday. She is a sophomore at Johns Hopkins and beat over 100 runners in this district final.
Halyna Stegura is happy to report that Jean Masiko is doing an outstanding job with the Parkland Snack Packing.

Jerry Frank reports that Sue & Bill Weber had to have a crane lift a 100 ft. tree off of their Hilton Head house. They have much cleaning up to do after hurricane Matthew brought 7 inches of water into the first floor.
We all sang Happy Birthday to Jeff Kistler.
Jeanne Shipe is pleased that her time in Washington D.C. last week including watching the Honor Flight that transports WW II Veterans to the Memorials each year.
Steve LaPierre was happy to be with his AW friends again. And he was happy to be with Wilmer Schultz who now has 64 years of perfect attendance in Rotary!

PROGRAM:
Our program today was a Rotary International Foundation update by David Caccese, our AW Foundation Chair. November is Foundation Month around the Rotary world. And this 2016-17 Rotary Year is celebrating 100 years since RI President Arch Klumph started the RI Foundation with a $26.50 donation in 1917.
David showed a video explaining the history of the RI Foundation and some of the good works Rotarians have accomplished through the Foundation. The RI Foundation (TRF) has distributed over $3 Billion in services over its 100 years. When Paul Harris, the founder of Rotary, passed away in 1947 there was a tremendous inflow of money in his memory.
Rotary’s signature project is to eradicate the dreaded disease of Polio from the world. What were 350,000 new cases of Polio each year back in 1985, has been reduced to 29 new cases so far in 2016 and just in 3 countries.
David mentioned the Rotary Peace Scholarship program, the former Group Study Exchange programs, and now the Vocational Training Teams (VTT). And there are hundreds of TRF projects by Rotarians around the world each year that are partially funded by our donations to TRF’s Annual Fund. The motto of TRF is “Doing Good in the World.”
David described how dollars donated one year to TRF Annual Fund are invested for 3 years and then 50% come back to the district as District Designated Funds (DDF). These are used to make grants happen.
David described how District Grants evolved from “Simplified Grants” that started over 10 years ago. These are grants that any RC can start and ask the District to contribute some funds. AW Rotarians did Snack Pack District Grants for two years. The district funding is for sustainable projects, not once and done things.
The other TRF grant is called a Global Grant, and must be for $30,000 or more. The DDF pays 50% and TRF pays the other half. Our recent Global Grant for the Centennial School in Sierra Leone is a good example.
David explained the various ways that Rotary recognizes donations to the donors. As donations to TRF accumulate over time and reach $1,000, the donor receives a Paul Harris Fellow (PHF) award. For every $1,000 thereafter the award is called a PHF+1, +2, etc.
As a separate part of TRF recognition, there is the Paul Harris Society (PHS) where donors contribute at least $1,000 each year. And when donors reach $10,000 or more, they receive “Major Donor” status. After 4 levels in the Major Donor category there is the Arch Klumph Society for those donating $250,000 or more
Also TRF has a Bequest Society so we can leave some money to them in our wills. RI asks that we tell them when we do it.
David noted that over the years AW Rotarians have been extremely generous to TRF, and it continues.
