Our Greeter today was Gwenn Carr and she did a marvelous job.
President Mike Gschwendtner rang the bell at 7:30 A.M. to open the meeting. Ron Coleman gave a very nice invocation including special mention of the hurricane and shooting victims.
President Mike began the meeting having the members recite the Five-way Test with the fifth question, “Is it Fun?” We recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag of the U.S.

RIKKE’S COMMENTS:
In 1980 Bill & Sue Weber hosted a Youth Exchange student from Norway named Alan. Today we met Alan’s 13 year old daughter, Rikke, who flew here from Norway by herself to visit. Rikke described her school system in Oslo; she is in the 8th grade. Rikke likes Soccer (Futbol) and tennis.
Pres. Mike showed photographs from our last meeting including Rotarians having breakfast, A.G. Gary Rohrbach with D.G. Rick Gromis, and the AW Board Members meeting with DG Rick. Then we saw the work crew at Ontelaunee Park last Saturday.

DICTIONARY PROJECT 2017:

MEMBERSHIP MINUTE:
President Mike, as well as Secretary Joe Goll, reminds us that we will be down about 10 members this year. So we all need to actively pursue candidates for membership, starting with the Nov. 2nd Networking Mixer at Wegman’s.
Nov. 7th, Tuesday, is our day to volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Dorothy Bloom passed around a signup sheet.
Nov. 10th, Friday evening is volunteer work at Kingdom Life Food Pantry to install new shelves. Please contact Jean Masiko.

HAPPY DOLLARS:
Dale Heffner is happy that his Daughter Sarah will be getting married this Saturday. And he is happy to have a house full of relatives right now.
Bill Weber is happy to have Rikke here from Norway.
Halyna Stegura is really enjoying the fun conversations this morning; she has laughed a lot.
Wendy Weaver loves this Fall weather.
Ron Coleman is happy to report that this is the third week that he has forgotten his badge. But he does know where it is.
Don Davis, trying to “sub” for Mitch, attempted to tell a joke, but it sort of failed.
Bob Gordon is happy to say that Rikke’s English is better than his Philadelphia trained version.
Ralph Witcher’s son attends Lehigh University and there is a Musical event on October 27 and 28 that will feature music from Great Britain. And Ralph will be singing too.
Mitch Huston is happy to report that last weekend’s 22nd Band Festival in Allentown was a success. There were 8,000 in the stands to hear 20 guest performances from 6 states.
PROGRAM:
Our Program today was our quarterly Club Assembly. President Mike began with reports from our Board Members who could not be here today.
Ray Stock has met with the Parkland H.S. people about this year’s snack pack program. The plan is to furnish Snack Packs for 240 students. And there will not be any for the ninth grade; just not enough funds. Packing will start on Wednesday October 18th. Thanks go to Jean Masiko.
Gloria Zimmerman reported on the September activity with the Lowhill Food Pantry. The details are listed in a separate article herein.
Gloria also reports that we have received another check for the Snack Pack Program from the Jordan Lutheran Church.
John Scott, our Foundation Chair, will represent AWRC on Friday Oct. 13th at the dedication of the Rotary Fountain at the southeast corner of Hamilton and 7th streets. The fountain commemorates the 100th anniversary of the chartering of the Allentown RC. AW Rotarians did pay for a “brick” to help with the funding.
Barbara Kistler reports for the Club Service Committee that the Student of the Month program resumes this month.
In person reports are:
Sue and Bill Weber, Chairs of the Youth Service Committee, report that this year’s Youth Exchange student, Alycia “Ala” Mikulska from Poland has been with us for over a month. She attends Northwestern H.S. and is a delightful addition to our Rotary family.
Recently the Webers interviewed a potential Outbound student for next Fall. We hope she signs up.
Len Salinas, Fundraising Chair, reminds us that Tempting Tastes 4 is scheduled for May 6, 2018. Also there will be a Pig Roast on September 30, 2018.
Club Secretary, Joe Goll emphasized the need to bring in new members to replace the unusual departure count and to continue the club’s growth.
President-elect Jeanne Shipe said that she had no prepared remarks. She will be chairing next week’s morning meeting.
Treasurer Chris Blechschmidt was the featured speaker giving us a financial update on the first quarter of this Rotary year. Chris explained that our club finance structure has five parts. The first is the Operating account that collects dues and runs the club. Second is the AWRC’s own Foundation that handles funds that were raised and are used for our good works.
A third account is for the AWRC “Reserve” funds. A portion of the net proceeds from fundraising goes into this, and 5% of the principal flows back to the operating account. The 4th and 5th accounts are for the Northwestern and Parkland S.D. Snack Packing Programs to track them separately.
Chris showed some slides of the Revenue and Expense values in these 5 accounts as we close out on September 30th. The club’s finances are in very good condition.
