Our Greeter today was Gloria Zimmerman and she did a marvelous job.
President Mike Gschwendtner rang the bell at 7:30 A.M. to open the meeting. Ernie Boll gave a very nice invocation.
President Mike began the meeting having the members recite the Five-way Test with the fifth question, “Is it Fun?” We recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag of the U.S.
GUESTS:
Dave Dries, Spring Township RC; Linda Bieber, wife of Guy Bieber, our Speaker today.
And longtime member Dawn Costello drove herself to her first meeting in many months, and she looks great again.
President Mike showed photographs from our last meeting including Bill Palmer’s happy table, Ralph Witcher, and the table with Jerry Frank, Jeanne Shipe and Ginny Sandoval.

THURSDAY EVENING MEETING:
TOMORROW, Sept 14th a field trip – a Tour of St. Luke’s West and St. Luke’s Fitness & Sports Center 501 Cetronia Road Allentown, PA 18104 starting at 5:30 P.M. There is no cost for the meeting and there will be no food.
Dennis Houser reminds us that there will be a meeting of the Purple Pinkie Committee after the tour Thursday evening.
ROTARY LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE (RLI):
It is scheduled for September 16th training at DeSales.
DICTIONARY PROJECT 2017:
Amir Famili is this year’s chair and he is asking for donations and also for assistance in adding labels and staging the books for delivery. Please volunteer to help.

D7430 END POLIO PURPLE PINKIE RACE OCTOBER 14th:
A signup sheet is going around for runners, walkers and volunteers for that morning.
John Scott, Race Director, noted that gift card donations are very important to keep participants coming back. Please give them to Wendy Weaver.
Herb Klotz explained that we need volunteers to work at various places on the morning of the Race.
AWRC B.O.D. VACANCIES:
President Mike still is seeking a Chair for the Community Service Committee. And since David Caccese is moving to Philadelphia, we now need a Chair for the Foundation Committee.
.NEXT WEEK:
Our Greeter will be Randy Beitler and the program will be determined at the last minute.
President Mike introduced our substitute S-a-A, Geoff Legg who conducted the raffle drawings. He started out by convincing Dawn Costello to buy the 3 remaining tickets.
The door prize jar of preserves was donated by Gloria Zimmerman and it was won by Donna Beach.
The $90 pot of the 50:50 was not won by Ralph Witcher’s ticket. There now are four marbles remaining.
Geoff also collected a few “Guilty” dollars.
HAPPY DOLLARS:
Halyna and Mike Stegura and two children had a wonderful trip to Ukraine. Their local contacts made sure that they got to the right places. And they are happy to be back in the U.S.
Halyna also is happy to report that daughter Mary who works for Disneyworld in Orlando is safe and sound.
Bob Gordon is pleased that his Florida son, daughter-in-law, granddaughter and Aunt all were here in the LV visiting during the hurricane. Bob also started a story about his dinner Tuesday evening, and then gave the microphone to Bill Palmer.
Bill said that three of them were celebrating two birthdays at a great restaurant. After dinner Bob headed for the restroom and Bill followed. Bob found them and opened the door – clearly marked – and sent Bill into the Ladies room. After greeting a woman emerging from a stall, Bill exited and found the Men’s room where Bob was laughing so hard he wet his shoes.
Dawn Costello is happy to be back. And she is happy that granddaughter, Maddie, won her cross country race Tuesday and is doing very well this season.
Wendy Weaver’s son who lives in Tampa is safe from the hurricane because he was in San Francisco last week. And his home, etc. are OK.
Gloria Zimmerman is almost happy that the Snack Pack program at Northwestern starts this week.
Joe Goll is happy that the house in Key West that he has owned for about 5 days has come through the hurricane in good condition with no water damage.
John Scott is happy that his kids are back in school again. He also is pleased that he is learning a lot about Rotary.
Geoff Legg told his story about being found in a Ladies Restroom.
PROGRAM:
Our program today was Guy Bieber discussing the Gospel of the Redman which is based on the book by ET & J Seton. Guy was dressed as Buffalo Bill Cody to tell us this story.
Guy attended Emmaus H.S. and community college, and 3 years ago he retired from Macungie Township. From 1970 to 1976 Guy served in the PA National Guard. Guy is involved with many Masonic organizations.
Guy assumed the role of Buffalo Bill Cody and told the tale of the life and spirit of our native Indians in the early days. He contrasted their belief in God every day with many religions that hold one day holy each week. The Redman prays most every day.
Guy reviewed the twelve commandments of the Redman some of which are:
Hold your word of honor
Do not lie
Learn the dances and cultures of others
Honor and obey thy Father and Mother
Thou shall not commit murder
Be chaste in thought and deed
Thou shall not steal
Help the needy
Touch not Firewater
Gut also told of Chief Sitting Bull who was part of the Wild West Show representing the Fighting Sioux. He was the greatest Indian of his time. He fought against General Custer, and eventually he was murdered by Government Agents.
It was an interesting presentation.

We closed the meeting by reciting the saying “One profits most who serves best.”
