We are still looking for help to drive Vern to the meetings. Joe Goll said he can drive him home if people can take turns getting him to the meetings. Let Joe know if you can help.
Hope Pearson is looking for someone to help her coordinate activities with the Northwestern Interact Club and attend their meetings which are the 2nd and 4th Fridays each month
The Purple Pinkie 5K event is still in need of volunteers and door prizes.
Gloria needs help with Parkland Snack Packing on the 3rd Wednesday of the month.
David Caccese reminds us to keep the donations coming to the RI Annual Fund, even though there are no more matching funds. We are currently at 50% of our 2016-17 goal.
Remember that 50% of the Annual Fund donations come back to the district and fund the Allentown West Grants each year.
. Also, we are still looking for people to attend the District Foundation Seminar on 10/29 at the Montgomery County Community College. The grant management certification is good for 3 years. Don’t forget that the club will reimburse you for your registration fee.
Dorothy Bloom reminds us that the Meals on Wheels AW Volunteer delivery day will be 11/11 (Veterans Day).
RI FOUNDATION GIVING INCENTIVE:
District 7430 is running a program to encourage NEW donors. If you are donating for the first time and give $100 to the RI Foundation Annual Fund, the District will assign 100 Recognition Points to your account toward a Paul Harris Fellow award.
LUCK OF THE DRAW:
Ginny Sandoval won the door prize and picked Dale Hostetter’s ticket for the 50/50, but alas…………no black marble was pulled and the $45 rolls over.

Mike Henry feels great after his incident. And he picked up in Mitch’s absence with a zinger. A bear walks into a bar….the bartender asks what he wants and after a long period of time the bear says, a gin & tonic, and the bartender says………(drum roll)….why the long paws (pause) ?
Cathy Minnich is happy to have met Dan and Donna and being invited to the meeting, and for all the good service work that Rotarians do.

PROGRAM:
Today’s Speaker was Jean Machamer giving her Classification Talk.
Jean took us back to her childhood in Akron, Ohio where she grew up having fun and scuffles with her siblings. Being able to walk home from school, have a sandwich, and walk back to school to play on the playground. She enjoyed spending as much time as possible outdoors.
Many of her family members worked in the rubber industry, but some also worked in retail at a department store where she got a treat every Thanksgiving and was able to enter the store and see all of the holiday displays.
She remembered baking and decorating cut-out cookies in the wintertime.
Every July they made a trip to Lake Erie for 2 weeks where the regular visitors made fast friends.
Church played an important role in Jean’s life and she wanted to learn more about God. In high school she was a majorette. After high school Jean attended Whittenberg College in Springfield and majored in Elementary Education. She worked for the first Head Start program and went on to teach in several states every grade except 5th. Jean is very proud to have made a difference in so many lives throughout her teaching career.
Jean and her husband have 2 children and 2 grandchildren.
