President Herb Klotz, recovering from Friday’s EWB fundraiser, rang the bell at 7:30 a.m. Jean Machamer gave a very nice invocation.

RECOGNITION OF MEMBER SPONSORS:

NEW MEMBER INDUCTION:
Barbara Kistler conducted the formal induction ceremony adding John Scott as the newest AWRC family member. Gary Englehardt is John’s sponsor.
ENGINEERS WITHOUT BORDERS FUNDRAISER:
Herb extended thanks to the dozen or so AW Rotarians for their participation in the April 1st fundraiser at DeSales. The net proceeds will exceed $30,000.
SIERRA LEONE STORY:
Herb told a story about the books for the Centennial School Library from their recent trip. The books were paid for from a Rotary District Grant. They were selected by the school principal who sourced them from many west African countries.
When the Rotarians from the nearby Bo RC came to visit the school, they were shown the new books. A few days later Chris Hornaman (Emmaus RC and EWB) and Herb attended the Bo RC regular lunch meeting. And a Bo Rotarian who had seen the new books told them that the selection was the best in the area; maybe in all of Sierra Leone!
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Last Saturday AW Rotarians volunteered at the Lowhill Food Pantry.
TODAY is the next snack packing at NWL.
Friday 4-8 is volunteer time at Kingdom Life; WE NEED MORE VOLUNTEERS.

Friday-to-Sunday April 8 to 10 is the annual District Conference at Pocono Manor Inn. There is a Cow Pie Bingo game underway now.
Friday April 22nd is DINING OUT at Wert’s Café. See AJ to sign up. Seating will be random.
April 23rd is the Community Resources Fair at Jordan Lutheran Church and we plan to have a Rotary info table. We need volunteers for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Contact Gloria.
There is no Service Committee meeting in April.
Gwenn Carr had two auction items on display that will be sold at Tempting Tastes 2 on May 15th. There now are 120 auction items with another 20 promised.
On May 4th at our regular meeting there will be food samples to try from 29 Cooks.
April 30th there is a LV Farm Festival at Ontelaunee Park and we plan to have a Rotary info table from 11 to 6 pm. We need volunteers for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and someone to lead them. Contact Gloria.
May 14th is the District Training Assembly at DeSales University.
May 15th is Tempting Tastes 2.
May 17th is the Million Dollar Journey Dinner in King of Prussia. RI President “Ravi” is the keynote speaker.
May 18th our meeting is at LCCC with our annual scholarship awards.

Mike Henry asks us to continue to sell tickets to Tempting Tastes 2 for May 15th and to use the website to do it.

ROTARIAN OF THE WEEK:
The AW Rotarian of the week is Gary Englehardt. Gary is a Project Management Consultant for the Pegasus Organization. He also served as chapter President for Engineers Without Borders two years ago.
Dan Crane brought Gary into Rotary in 2004. Gary has been a lead organizer of our Tempting Tastes events, and the May 3, 2015 one made him proud. And a highlight of his Rotary time was a Friendship Exchange trip to Mexico.
LUCK of the DRAW:
Donna Beach won the door prize carried over from last week. Today’s door prize from Mitch Huston was won by Chris Blechschmidt.
Then Gary Englehardt’s ticket was drawn and he pulled out a white marble and did not win the $110 in the 50:50 pot.
FINES:
S-a-A Don Davis fined Herb a few times for errors in his slides. And he fined visiting Rotarian Cindy Hornaman for no pin, and Marlene Ritter for coming late.
HAPPY DOLLARS:
Jeanne Shipe is happy that her Dr. told her that the Lyme disease treatments have worked and not to return.
Bill Palmer is happy to have John Scott as a member.
Mike Henry is happy to be going to Eight Oaks Craft Distillers this evening to be part of the first bottling of their new Gin.
Cindy Hornaman is happy to be here at one of the best RCs in the district.
Bill Weber paid a dollar to endorse what Cindy said.
Sue Weber is happy to have Ron, Cindy and John here today.
Gloria is happy to report that she has received two more checks from outside groups to fund NWL snack packs.
Marlene is happy that her granddaughter’s picture was in the paper.
Joe Goll is happy to report that a picture of the top of his head appeared in the Morning Call one day last week.
PROGRAM:
PDG Bill Palmer conducted a members exam all about the history of our Rotary Club, as a way to have some fun and to expose newer members to the early days of our club. He began with a photo of the members that had been on the website in a download club history page. Originally he thought it was an old photo. Then he enlarged it and realized he was in it.
Bill asked multiple choice questions about when and under what name we were chartered, and which RC was our sponsor. The facts came out from the RI HQ History Dept. Allentown RC was our sponsor, but Emmaus had to sign off on giving us part of their territory.
Questions about “Rotary Anns,” and the various meeting locations we have used, and what our early fundraisers were gave us some conversation. Then we were asked about our early projects, and about women in Rotary. And we talked about our various social events held over the years and scholarships and other awards.
There was a list of contributors and editors that were thanked. They made the 18 page updated history write-up come together. It is available as a download on our club website.
Bill showed a slide with the number 560+ local and district Rotary meetings over the last four years that he has been able to attend ONLY because so many Rotarians are looking after him and driving him around. He thanks you all for the incredible support.
CLOSING:
Halyna hit the right note to start us on a nice rendition of “God Bless America.” Then we recited the Pledge to the Flag of the United States and then the saying “One profits most who serves the best.”
