ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Herb read a Thank You note from Meals on Wheels for our $250 donation toward this year’s “Blizzard Packs.”
Last week Herb and other AW Rotarians and family volunteered at the Lowhill Food Pantry; they served 32 families. This is a highly recommended “feel good” experience.
Today is Snack Packing at Northwestern at 2:45 PM.
Our next Thursday evening meeting is tomorrow, October 8th at 5:30 PM at the Holiday Inn in Breinigsville. Bring your friends.
Tomorrow, October 8th is the District Golf Tournament at Silver Creek CC; proceeds go to the Rotary Foundation.

Jeff Kistler announced that on November 15th at 11:00 A.M. there will be a Veterans’ Recognition Service at his Church. Judge Jim Anthony will speak.
The PP5K committee will meet on October 20th at 7 PM at Randy Beitler’s.
The Tempting Tastes 2 committee will meet on Friday October 16th at 7:30 a.m.
The International committee will meet here on Wed. Oct 21st at Luther Crest at 8:45 AM.
The Service committee will meet on October 21st at Luther Crest at 8:45 AM.
The annual District Foundation Seminar is on Saturday, October 31st and Herb is going and asks that at least one other AW Rotarian go and hopefully stay for the Grant Certification session.
President Herb asks us all to e-mail him about any announcements to be made at future meetings so he can include them as part of his planned agenda.
Next week our scheduled Greeter is Gloria Zimmerman and the program will be Michaela Luzicova, our 2015-16 Youth Exchange Student.

32 of the planned 200 runners have registered. Interactors also are coming.
We have $3,750 Corporate Sponsors; the goal is > $5,000.

We have enough event volunteers.

MY ROTARY:
One goal this year is to have EVERY AW member go onto the RI website rotary.org and click on “My Rotary” and set up an account with a password. So far we have 29 of us registered -- 47%. Please do it; it takes 5 to 10 minutes. If you need help, just contact Brian Peterka.
LUCK of the DRAW:
The door prize bottle of wine donated by Dale Heffner was won by Ralph Wasiakowski. The $109 pot of the 50:50 was not won by Chuck Ehninger who selected a white marble.
FINES:
S-a-A Don Davis fined Herb for spelling Michaela’s last name wrong on a slide. Joel forgot his pin, and Ray was late today.

Linda Young and Ray are celebrating 42 years of marriage on Oct 15th.
Sue and others were greatly pleased to have a Slovakian dinner prepared for them by Michaela.
Gloria is happy that Ihor brought in a bag of soaps, lotions, and other personal care items available from hotel rooms. These are needed at the Food Pantry.
Bill Weber and others attended the Bethlehem RC’s Tastes & Tunes event last Sunday, and the food was great.
Bill Palmer is happy that next year’s District Governor, Linda Young, was with us today.
Herb noted that he, Ronnee, Bev and Dave Dries, and Bill Palmer attended the Fleetwood RC’s Gourmet Gala last Thursday evening. Herb also was happy about Michaela’s special dinner.
Linda is happy to congratulate AW Rotarians for all that we do and for having fun.
ROTARIAN of the WEEK:
The AW “Rotarian of the Week” is Dorothy Bloom, who has served as the Administrative Coordinator for Meals on Wheels of Lehigh County for 20 years. She learned about Rotary from her former boss, AJ Henry. She and husband Rick hosted Fredrik, our Y.E. student from Sweden -- a great experience. And Michaela will stay with them for part of this year.
PROGRAM:
President Herb introduced Dorothy Bloom to deliver her Classification talk. Dottie noted that there are family photos on the table, and she had placed favors with candy at our places this morning.
Dorothy said that she was born in 1957 in Buffalo, NY, and that she is 5’-6”, has long blonde hair and weighs 110 lbs. She thanks her parents regularly that her family with two brothers and two sisters moved out of Buffalo to PA in 1958. Then they moved to a cattle farm in Center Hill in 1961 where she grew up. Her Dad was a construction worker. For the last 29 years she and Rick have gone back to the Center Hill Fair each year.
Dorothy helped do chores on the farm and learned to love bunnies, still her addiction. She pushed her doll carriage with rabbits in it. Right now they have no bunnies, but are looking after Nelson, a 13 year old Lab.
One of Dorothy’s first jobs was in a Pizza Shop in downtown Center Hill. After High School graduation in 1979 they moved to Middleton, PA. Then Rick took them to Williamsport in 1980, and to Orefield in 1982.
After about six months working for Lehigh County, Dorothy began her career working with AJ at Meals on Wheels. Dorothy enjoys speaking with the older folks. And she loves the variety of work each day. She works on fundraisers and is he office manager. She coordinates the special projects such as the Air Products Christmas gifts for the last ten years. LV Health Network also does something special with personal trees at Christmas.
Meals on Wheels was founded in 1971 and has served over 6 million meals feeding 450 each day. 59% live alone, and 93% need subsidies,
The Blooms have been married for 33 years and have and have two sons.
CLOSING:
Halyna hit the right note to start a nice rendition of “God Bless America.” This was followed by the recitation of the Pledge to the Flag of the United States and then the saying “One profits most who serves the best.”
