Our Greeter today was Geoff Legg -- a bit tardy -- and he did a marvelous job.
President-Elect Mike Gschwendtner rang the bell at 7:30 a.m. and conducted today’s meeting.
We sang the National Anthem, and said the Pledge of Allegiance. Chuck Ehninger read something from Mother Teresa and then gave a very nice invocation.
The word from the country is: “Forgiveness is the fragrance that the violet sheds on the heel that has crushed it.”

BANNER EXCHANGE:
Our visiting Rotarian from Vermont, E. Turner Lewis, presented the club with a banner from his RC in Brattleboro. And he accepted an AWRC banner.
President-elect Mike showed a slide of the 11-11 Meals on Wheels workers, and then one of Dan Crane’s Graduation photo from the 11-12 Rotary Leadership Institute training.

Today’s door prize breakfast donated by Geoff Legg was won by George Ikeda. Then Gloria Zimmerman’s ticket was drawn and she selected the single black marble from among a batch of white ones and WON the $45 in the 50:50 pot. Gloria admits to following Dan Crane’s system on how to select a winning ticket.

Herb and Ronnee Klotz are celebrating 36 years of wedded bliss today.
Jeanne Shipe reported that she attended Rotary at the United Nations Day last Saturday in New York City. It was an exciting and long day, and full of inspirational stories about many Rotary projects. She even had her picture taken with RI President, John Germ. There were about 1,500 Rotarians present, and it was a great experience.
Jeanne also had a Happy Dollar because Geoff Legg said that she is ranked 250th out of 10,000 Advisors.
Jean Masiko noted that the Parkland Snack Pacing is December 21st, not the 14th.
Sue Weber says it is good to be back here. They still have much work to do in fixing the hurricane damage to their Hilton Head house.
Jerry Frank is most pleased that last evening his grandson that plays Football for Freedom HS was inducted into the National Honor Society. And in the Spring the grandson will become an Eagle Scout.
Jerry also has his birthday today. We sang – sort of -- Happy Birthday.
Wendy Weaver reports that slowly her injured niece is improving a wee bit, but it is a long slow process. Her niece is being moved to Moravian Village after Thanksgiving.
Mitch Huston told a joke that actually was quite funny.
PROGRAM:
AWRC RI Foundation Chair, David Caccese asks us to submit our current thinking on appropriate projects for us to partly fund using District Grant money in the next Rotary year, 2017-18. Last year we came up with over 100 suggestions from our Wed. and Thurs. member meetings.
It turned out that we had a late start last year. We did receive a District Grant for our Ukraine project, but it stopped there. This year we are starting a lot earlier to get a full list of ideas and then whittle it down.
District Grants are allowed up to $29,999 each. After that Rotary uses Global Grants. An example of a Global Grant is the current one for the Sierra Leone Centennial School construction items.
District Grants generally require the RC itself to fund about 50% of the total cost. AWRC has budgeted funds for this year already.
All Rotary Grants are expected to meet at least two criteria: It must fall into one of Rotary’s six areas of focus; and it must be sustainable over time.
David distributed a worksheet for each of us to use to describe meaningful new projects. Bill Weber noted that at the 11-15 AWRC Board meeting there was a request to try to find a project within the two school districts that we serve.
We are asked to think about what may work, write down the essence -- brief is OK -- and send them to David, Dan or Mike G. Jeanne Shipe plans to invite some agencies that we might work with to be a program at out meetings.
