Meeting, June 28, 2017
Our Greeter today again was Donna Beach and she again did a marvelous job including handing out our badges.
President Dan Crane rang the bell at 7:30 A.M. to open the meeting.
Jean Machamer gave a very nice invocation with special mention of the late Vernon Fenstermaker and his family.
The assembled then sang the National Anthem, with a video accompaniment and then recited the pledge of Allegiance.

Today was our AWRC annual changeover meeting with many guests and awards and ceremonies. It was a full house.

Raynock, Emmaus RC; Grace Keller, Gil’s wife; Danny and Adolpho from Peru, parents of Eli our 2011-12 Youth Exchange student; Mike and Lisa, son and daughter of A J Henry and her daughter-in-law, Michelle; Gwenn Carr and Gary Englehardt’s two grandchildren; Gaulle Holland and son, hosts of Y.E. students; Dana, Seth and Madison Gschwendtner, President-Elect Mike’s family.
And Cindy and Guy Rosevelt of our Thursday Evening group were with us.
President Dan first noted the retirement from our weekly meetings of the image of the RI Foundation founder, Arch Klumph. He has moved on to District events.
Then Dan showed many slides of photographs from our last meeting including a special pic of Bob Gordon and Dale Heffner showing off their recently caught and huge 30+ lbs. King Salmon. And there was the three “Orange” Rotarians’ picture taken by Ihor Fedoriw. We saw a pic of the installation of Jennifer Stinson as a member last Thursday Evening, and of Dale Hostetter giving his financial report.

David Caccese, our Foundation Chair, called the following members forward and awarded their Paul Harris Fellow pins recognizing attaining the next level of giving to the RI Foundation:

President Dan showed a series of slides with each depicting a specific accomplishment for others by AW Rotarians. These included Food Pantries, Snack Packing, Dictionary distribution, Y.E. student; Camp Neidig, and our two Interact clubs, and more.
Dan then announced that the great performance by AW members has earned us District Governor Linda Young’s Shining Star award. Herb Klotz then handed Dan the actual certificate.
Herb then announced that at the June 26th District Changeover in Pottstown, AWRC was one of 5 in our 45 RC district to have earned the RI Presidential Citation. Way to go, AW Rotarians !!
President Dan thanked us all for making the 2016-17 RY so great.
Dan then reviewed a list of the AW Rotarians who led our major projects.

TRIBUTE TO VERN:
President Dan told how he arranged to visit Vernon Fenstermaker last week and presented Vern with a special plaque noting Vern’s 50 years of service to Rotary. Vern acknowledged the award happily and emotionally. But the next day Vern at age 97 passed away.
TRIBUTE TO MIKE HENRY:
President Dan presented a special plaque to Rotarian Anna Jean Henry in recognition of the many years of service to Rotary by her husband Mike who passed away on April 27, 2017.
HERB KLOTZ IS DGN:
At the June 26th District Changeover event our own Herb Klotz officially became the District Governor Nominee (DGN ).

ROTARIAN OF THE YEAR:
Ginny Sandoval was named Allentown West RC Rotarian of the year in recognition of her service on a multitude of club projects, as club Membership Chair, Women’s Day in Rotary, Tempting Tastes fundraiser, etc. etc. Congratulations, Ginny.

Jun 30th is DINING OUT at Nostos Greek Restaurant at 701 N. 19th Street in Allentown, 6 PM start; free glass of wine, or BYOB.
PARTY FOR Marti:
On July 9th there is a party for this year’s Youth Exchange Student, Marti, starting at 4:00 PM at the Earl Adams Memorial Park at 8935 Breinigsville Rd. Please bring beverages and a food item for your group to share around. There is a pavilion reserved. Wendy Weaver has a sign-up sheet going around.
THURSDAY EVENING MIXER:
July 13th at Eight Oaks Distillery with your guests. Let’s have a great turnout. Please sign up so we get a headcount to order the food. Cost is $10 p.p. for members.
WE NEED MEETING VOLUNTEERS:
Every weekly meeting needs members to set up in advance, and also to take down and store the sound system, badge box, etc. Please consider providing this service for our members and sign up with P-E Mike G.
NEXT WEEK our Greeter will be Tina Buss and Bob Gordon and the program will. Be Kristie Fach, Director of Ecological Restoration, to discuss Wildlands Conservancy Projects in our Area.
Our Sergeant-at-Arms, Don Davis, performed his last official act and collected some happy dollars.

President Dan put in $20 and thanked the club members for such a great year.
Sue Weber is happy to have Galilee and her son with us, as well as Eli’s parents from Peru. Danny thanked us for caring for Eli and all that Rotarians do. She gave a gift of Peruvian Coffee to President Dan.
Gary Englehardt is happy to have his two grandchildren here today.
Jean Masiko is happy to have AJ Henry back with us, as are we all.
Herb Klotz is happy to recognize and to thank Dan Crane for his excellent leadership this last year.
Ron Coleman is happy to donate $42 of his commission income to AWRC, as promised.
Geoff Legg is happy to praise Dan Crane as well.
AJ Henry is happy to have her family here today.
PRESIDENT DAN CRANE’S FAREWELL REMARKS:
Have fun. Keep on doing good things. Build relationships. Have fun. And “Thanks.”
PROGRAM:
Our program today featured our annual changeover of AWRC leaders as we start the new Rotary year. Past District Governor, Bill Weber conducted the ceremony.
All 2016-17 AW Officers, Directors and Committee Chairs were asked to rise, and were thanked for their service, and were removed from office. PDG Weber was heard to say “You’re Fired.”
Then all 2017-18 AW Officers, Directors and Committee Chairs were asked to rise and were administered the oath of office and were sworn in and congratulated. A standing ovation followed.
And Past President Dan Crane presented the gavel to President Mike Gschwendtner, as well as the AWRC President’s lapel pin.
Bill Weber explained the history starting in 1980 in honor of an Exchange student from Japan, a painting has been handed down each year to the AWRC President. Now Mike has it.
And Ihor Fedoriw presented Mike with the Ukrainian egg that stands for good luck. This also goes each year with the AWRC President.
President Mike presented Past President Dan with a Past President’s lapel pin and a certificate of appreciation.
President Mike expressed our thanks to Dan and he looks forward to the new Rotary Year. He rang the bell too.
CLOSING:
We closed the meeting by reciting the saying “One profits most who serves best.”
