Meeting, Notes -- March 27, 2019
Today was a destination meeting at Parkland High School with the Interact Club students.
Our Greeter today was Joe Goll, and he did a marvelous job. S-a-A Mitch Huston handled registration here at the Library.
GUESTS:
Brian and Stephanie Faenza, parents of our Student of the Month; and her brother, Dominick; Parkland HS Assistant Principal Dr. Jude Sandt. and Andrea our Youth Exchange student from Croatia; and Lori Peters, Interact Club Advisor and soon to be AW Rotarian.
President Jeanne Shipe rang the bell at 7:30 A.M. to open the meeting and welcomed all to our special meeting. Then she reviewed some current activities.
When the Parkland announcer started their announcements, Pres. Jeanne had us say the Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S. Flag as they all did.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
DISTRICT CONFERENCE 2019:
DGE Herb Klotz has explained that the conference offers a single day option for Saturday. Herb said that the more AW Rotarians that go, the better it will be for us to help plan and run the 2020 District Conference -- His.
OTHER PLANS:
May 5 will be a DESTINATION meeting at LCCC and scholarships will be awarded.
May 15th will be an Open House Mixer meeting here at Luther Crest.

RLI MARCH 30th:
Rotary Leadership Institute training is on March 30th at the Radisson in King of Prussia. Give it a try, if you have not done it yet. Your registration fee will be reimbursed to you afterwards.
ENGINEERS WITHOUT BORDERS FUNDRAISER:
Is at DeSales University on Sunday April 7th from 4 to 7 PM.
To begin the meeting Pres. Jeanne asked AW Rotarians each to take a few minutes to describe an AW project.
Gail Micca, Community Projects Chair discussed the new plan to use a District Grant to buy warming containers for Meals on Wheels.
Bill Palmer described the work of Threads of Change that supports Foster Care families with clothes and supplies.
DGE Herb Klotz told of our work with Engineers Without Borders in Sierra Leone. The Parkland students raised $16,000 to fund items and tuitions at the Centennial School. Herb also described the new project to provide water distribution to two villages in the Dominican Republic.
Pres. Jeanne mentioned the new project for the Parkland C.A.R.E.S. Foundation and Katrina Sundstrom’s leadership. In June they will be opening a Food Pantry on Kernsville Road.
Our Dictionary project for 3rd graders was discussed as well.
And our Tempting Tastes annual fundraisers were talked about. We usually have help from our PHS Interact students.
STUDENT OF THE MONTH -- OLIVIA FAENZA:
The award was presented with. Rev. Jeff Kistler conducting the ceremony. Olivia was accompanied by her parents, Brian and Stephanie Faenza, her Brother Dominick and by Parkland HS Assistant Principal Dr. Jude Sandt.
Dr. Sandt said nice things about Olivia. And Olivia thanked PHS and Rotarians. Also see separate article.
NEXT MEETING IS BACK AT LUTHER CREST --
Our Greeter will be Scott Hock and our program will be Gwen Pongrancz and Barbara Kistler conducting a 4-WAY Test speech contest.
There were no drawings this morning, and no “Happy Dollars.”
PROGRAM:
The balance of our program today was about the PHS Interact students, Our Interact club Advisor, Lori Peters introduced the club Officers.

Lori said that their efforts are “To make good things happen.” Using a PowerPoint the students took turns describing the club’s projects and plans.
1. Students participated in last October’s Purple Pinkie 5K Race to raise money to eradicate Polio. They promoted the event and some did run.
2. They conducted a drive to collect Bikes and Winter clothes for children. They got 20 bikes and lots of clothes.
3. They ran a holiday Gift program for inner City kids and for some elderly folks. Also at Holiday time they packed scarves and cards in with the Snack Packs.
4. Throughout the school year these students help prepare the Snack Packs each month
5. They conducted a “Sock Drive” and gave them to children.
6. Some students attended a Leadership Conference in Reading as part of our Rotary District Conference last year.
7. Currently they are selling chocolate candy bars to raise money to go toward a ShelterBox.
8. They will be helping at the April 28th Tempting Tastes again.
9. They will be helping at the Community Resource Fair in 2 weeks where AWRC will have a table.
BTW, President Melena is a participant in our April 3rd 4-Way-Test Speech Contest.
Melena thanked Mrs. Peters for her guidance, and thanked AW Rotarians for their support.
Chair John Scott noted that the Purple Pinkie Race in 2019 is on October 12th at LCCC. The website is up and running.
