President Jeanne Shipe rang the bell at 7:30 A.M. to open the meeting. Chris Blechschmidt gave a very nice invocation.
Pres. Jeanne implemented a new item this morning. She projected a series of photos from last week in a continuous loop for our viewing as we ate breakfast.
Then Jeanne began the meeting having the members sing God Bless America. And we ended together, too.

Honorary members Shirley Randall and Wendy Weaver were with us today.
We welcomed back our new member, Hal Warner, who not only just got married, but also has taken a new job. Hal now is the C.E.O. for the Lehigh County Humane Society. Double congratulations, Hal.

ROTARY LEARNING OPPORTUNITY:
On Saturday, October 20th there is an RLI (Rotary Leadership Institute) training session at DeSales University. AWRC members will have their registration fees reimbursed after they attend. This is a great opportunity to learn all about Rotary.
PURPLE PINKIE AT LCCC IS THIS SATURDAY, OCTOBERE 13TH !!
The 5K run and Fun walk is to raise funds to eradicate the last few cases of Polio from the world.
John Scott said that the first of this year’s 2 Purple Pinkie races was held last Saturday. We have a total of 33 of our 45 district RCs now committed to sponsor parts of these events.
Pres. Jeanne reminds us that she and her dog Daisy will be participating and asks us all to sponsor her -- or Daisy.
Gail Micca said that Snack Packing at Parkland H.S. is scheduled for next Wednesday.
OCT 16th TUESDAY, a CONCERT by the Harmonizers is scheduled here at Luther Crest for 7:30 PM.
MEALS ON WHEELS UPDATE:
The next AWRC volunteering for M.O.W. is TENTATIVELY set for Monday November 12th. Details will follow.
ANNUAL FOUNDATION SEMINAR is on November 10th at MONTCO CC in Blue Bell. Grant Training and certification will be conducted after lunch.

DICTIONARY PROJECT:
P-E Amir Famili has launched this year’s project and ordered about 1,000 dictionaries to arrive in a few weeks. Cash donations are welcome. And there will be a “Label Pasting” Party at Amir’s home on October 26th.
TT5 will happen on April 28, 2019, but NOW is the time to volunteer to work with Gwenn and Gary to learn and execute the many jobs associated with this great fundraising event.
TT5 PLANING MEETING:
The first planning meeting for Tempting Tastes 5 will be held Friday October 19, 2018 - 7:30AM at the Holiday Inn in Breinigsville. We are looking for ideas and suggestions to make this event even better than it has been in the past

HAPPY DOLLARS:
Dale Heffner was happy to update us on the Threads Of Change progress. Their recent distribution event served 100 foster children. As the cold weather approaches things slow down regarding the container storage. The Foundation 501-C-3 application will be submitted soon. The shelves for the container will be sought in the Spring.
Halyna Stegura is happy that Wendy Weaver is with us today.
Wendy Weaver is glad to be with her AW family, but on Nov. 14th she will be back in Florida.
Hal Warner is happy about starting his new job.
Gail Micca is pleased to be traveling to see family in Fargo, ND.
Mitch also requested “Frustration Dollars” and Bill Erdman responded with a red tape Government incompetence tale of trying to get a security clearance on-line. So sad.
PROGRAM:
Our program today was Emmaus RC’s Bill Erdman, D 7430 Area 1 Foundation Coordinator providing us with a good overview of OUR Foundation and its structure and guidelines. President Jeanne introduced Bill quoting his words “I am the current Foundation Chair at the Emmaus Club and am also a past President of the Club. From a professional standpoint, I am a past President of Keystone Consulting Engineers and currently serve as a Project Manager in my continuing journey into retirement.”
Bill began by reminding us that The purpose of OUR Foundation is
to enable Rotarians “To Do Good in the World” as Arch C. Klumph said with the creation of the Foundation in 1917.
Then Bill listed what he calls the “Rotary Foundation Efficiencies” as:
Four Star Rating (the best) by Charity Navigator
91% of monies are spent directly on programs;
Investment returns in 2017:
11.6% for Annual Fund
13.5% for Endowment Fund; and
5-year investment return of 6.3%.

Bill then displayed a list of our D7430 “Local” Grants that are in process for this Rotary Year. He noted that AWRC was first on the list. Then John Scott observed that the list was alphabetical.
Bill then reviewed a list of D7430 Global Grants for International projects. Our project with Engineers Without Borders in Sierra Leone was mentioned.
Bill emphasized that Rotary as an organization is so well respected all over the world that we can send Rotarians into countries and areas that nobody else can go.
The TRF Six Areas of Focus for Global Grants are:
1. Peace and Conflict Resolution
2. Disease Prevention
3. Maternal and Child Health
4. Economic and Community Development
5. Water and Sanitation
6. Basic Education and Literacy
The basic Three Funds in Foundation are:
Annual Fund: the primary source of funds that support The Rotary Foundation’s programs and areas of focus;
PolioPlus Fund: used to eradicate polio throughout the world; and
Endowment Fund: used to provide a permanent and sustainable source of funding from its earnings. This is a sort of Legacy fund for Rotarians to support.
Bill reviewed a list of Club Level Giving – Area 1. He showed this year’s goal and the last two years results of the Annual Fund giving for the 5 RCs in our Area 1. Bill then went over a 5 year history of just the AWRC as a graph and charts.
Bill finishes with Ways to Encourage Foundation Giving that included Rotary Piggy Banks, the EREY “Table” Matching Recognition Points.
Let’s Turn from the Head to the Heart. It is important to pay attention to this feeling of purpose and meaning and whether it is being fulfilled in your present circumstances. As great as money is, no person was designed to simply make money. People are designed to make a difference, and material gain is simply a chief by-product.
