MEETING  NOTES  June 27, 2018

Our Greeter today was Jean Masiko and she did a marvelous job.

President Mike Gschwendtner rang the bell at 7:30 A.M. to open the meeting. Chuck Ehninger gave a very nice invocation. We mourn the loss of our dear Rotarian, Don Davis.

Pres. Mike began the meeting having the members recite the Five-way Test with the fifth question, “Is it Fun?” We recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S.

GUESTS:
Two delightful grandchildren of Gwenn and Gary.

Pres. Mike  showed pictures starting with Ron Coleman showing off his Hawaiian shirt last week. Then we saw a happy faced Mitch Huston from last week.

LOWHILL FOOD PANTRY:
Please remember  that the Collection jar is at the registration desk for cash and check contributions.

KINDOM LIFE FOOD PANTRY WORK:
Jean Masiko asks for volunteers for next week on Friday evening July 7th to stock shelves.

SCHEDULE:
President Mike  announces upcoming events at our meetings  and a list of them appears on our website. A list of the appropriate contact information appears each week in the A-W bulletin.

DINING OUT for JUNE:
Friday June 29th is Dining Out at the Shanty Restaurant in Allentown at 6:00 P.M.

JUNE  28th THURSDAY  EVENING MEETING CANCELLED.

July 12th is the next Thursday evening meeting. Barb Kistler said it is at the Boos Rock Winery at 5:30 PM at 10201 Ziegels Church Rd, Breinigsville, PA 18031. Admission is $10 which is for the wine tasting and will be applied to a wine purchase.  Cheese and crackers will also be provided.  Purple Pinkie Team will meet following the meeting.

FUTURE  MEETING  CANCELLATION:
P-E Jeanne Shipe’s first decision as our new AWRC President will be to cancel the July 4th meeting. Today she announced that her second decision is that the December 26th meeting also is cancelled.

NO  MEETING  on JULY 4th.   ----  Suggest you visit another RC next week.

NEXT  MEETING  --  JULY  11th:
Our Greeter will be Dan Crane. . And our program will be Pushpinder Puri  discussing “The Sikh Community.”

Pres. Mike introduced  S-a-A Mitch Huston who conducted the drawings and collected some “guilty” fines.

The door prize breakfast donated by Jean Masiko was won by Ihor Fedoriw.

The 50:50 pot of $24 was WON by  Jean Masiko  whose ticket was selected. Jeanne Shipe’s marble collection apparently was successfully returned to Mitch for today’s drawing.

It seems that today was some sort of a record. On June 6th Ron Coleman won $81. On June 13th Chris Blechschmidt won $10. There was no drawing on June 20th because Mitch lost his marbles. So there were 3 winners in a row.

HAPPY  DOLLARS:
Mitch told of having arranged for a Bugle Player for Don Davis’ Military services last Monday. Mitch also noted that there now is a Trumpeter playing Taps each day as part of “The notes of Taps” which will fill the air in Gettysburg every evening this summer as the famous 24-note call is sounded in honor of those who have served our nation. The Lincoln Fellowship of Pennsylvania, in partnership with Gettysburg National Military Park and Taps For Veterans .

Gwenn Carr is happy to thank Mike Gschwendtner for his year of service. And she thanks Jeanne Shipe for her year ahead.

Gary Englehardt put in $2 for his grandchildren being here today.

David Haight is happy that he will be traveling to Nashville and will celebrate his 51st anniversary, and also will attend a family wedding.

Halyna Stegura is happy to have visited with Wendy Weaver in Florida. And she is very happy that she worked alongside Don Davis at TT4.

Dan Crane thanks Mitch Huston for arranging for the Bugler for the Don Davis service.

Ralph Witcher’s son, Seth, will be singing the National Anthem at the PPL Center next week. Seth also has produced his first CD.
Ralph donated $10 in memory of Don Davis.

Barb Kistler is happy to be extracting Rev. Jeff from his Church duties and heading to the “woods” for the weekend. They also are celebrating Barb’s birthday.

With Ralph Witcher leading, we sang Happy Birthday to Barb. It sounded nice.

PROGRAM:
President Mike introduced Past President Chuck Ehninger as the Emcee for today’s annual AWRC Changeover ceremony.

Chuck invited the AWRC Officers for the 2017-18 Rotary Year to come forward. He then thanked them for their service and declared them relieved of duty.

Then Chuck called the names and positions for the AWRC 2018-19 Officers and had them come forward. The group was sworn in for the next Rotary Year.  He urged their continued good work as they fulfill their responsibilities. Chuck formally presented the Gavel to our new President, Jeanne Shipe. There was much applause.

Our tradition is to present the outgoing President with a special lapel pin, and present the new President with a special President’s pin. Once Secretary Joe Goll returns, those presentations will take place.

Past Pres. Mike then presented Pres. Jeanne with the very special original painting of the Mountains in Japan. This tradition began when a very grateful Father of one of our Youth Exchange students from Japan presented it to AW Rotarians for all that they did for his daughter.

Dr. Ihor Fedoriw continued a tradition of presenting our new President Jeanne with a very special Easter Egg from Ukraine. It’s symbolizes Good Health and Prosperity.

Dr. Barbara Kistler then started a new tradition  by presenting President Jeanne with her own special sparkling Tiara. Barb believes it stands for being in charge. Possibly next year Amir may choose not to wear it.

Pres. Jeanne took the microphone and said that everyone has been most helpful as she prepared to lead our club. Early on she was a bit apprehensive. But now she is optimistic and has some new ideas.

Recently Jeanne has identified many events coming up that Rotarians might want to know about. These have been added to our ClubRunner database.

Also Jeanne recommends we use a new ClubRunner cell phone App as a quick way to access AW information. The LINK to download the App is at the top of this Bulletin.

Jeanne said that she got some good ideas and feedback from the survey that she ran, especially from the Thursday evening group. She thanks Scott Hock for joining the team that handles the Parkland Snack Pack program.

Jeanne plans to hold quarterly club Assemblies to update members on what is going on. These will start with a new section called “Ask the Board.” Members can submit questions in advance and they will be shared and answered.

Jeanne said that with our help it will be an awesome year. And she presented us with lapel pins that show the Rotary International theme for 2018-19 “Be the Inspiration.”

CLOSING:
We closed our meeting by reciting the saying “One profits most who serves best.”
