Photo Archives

If you take photos at Rotary meetings and/or events, and/or if you have old photos taking up room on your phone or computer, please consider adding them to our archives! Simply forward them to marmel735@yahoo.com and Gary Heller will save them to a Rotary-specific hard drive. Where possible, please tell him:

  • Where the photo was taken (event, meeting, conference, etc.)
  • Who is in the photo
  • Date (month/year) photo was taken
If you are currently sending photos to Bill for the newsletter, please just add Gary to that email.

This helps us, not only in our own projects, but also when we get a call from District asking for photos of something specific. In the archive, they are organized by type of event or meeting, so they can be easily retrieved.

Thanks to all our photographers!

TEMPTING  TASTES “5”  --  A  BIG  HIT

Thanks go to Gwenn Carr and Gary Englehardt for their elaborate planning and execution efforts that made TT5 a big hit on Sunday April 28, 2019. And sincere thanks go to the committees and volunteers that made the event go so smoothly.

Our District Governor, Cindy and husband Chris Hornaman were early check-ins

Rev. Jeff Kistler was our Greeter that welcomed attendees and provided directions. Gary Englehardt looked great in his Tuxedo, and helped ensure all went well. Barbara Kistler provided guidance and support at the main entrance.

Ron Coleman and Nancy were there having a good time.

One highlight of the event was the students from the Northwestern Lehigh Interact Club. Their Advisor, AW Rotarian Jean Machamer on behalf of the students presented our President Jeanne Shipe with a check for $1,000 for a ShelterBox. Jeanne described the ShelterBox features and contents and thanked the students.

DGE Herb Klotz in his Tuxedo was the announcer on the PA system all afternoon. Then in the absence of the planned Auctioneer, Herb ran the Live Auction session with great skill and ease.

The food was very good, as was the wine. The fellowship was great. And the final raffles of two baskets of cheer were exciting.

Again  --  Thank you, AW Rotarians, guests and sponsors.

PROGRAM:
Our program today was Fred Buse, Master Gardener  talking about A Day in the Spring. Fred is a retired Marine Engineer and Ingersoll-Rand retired employee. Fred has spent his last 50 years growing trees, shrubs, flowers , etc. in his back yard.

Fred showed us a photo of his current back yard that includes a 15 ft. x 10 ft. x 3 ft. deep fish pond. He also has many bird feeders at various heights and with many protections against squirrels.

Fred noted that a recent hurricane destroyed much of the calcium bearing foods for many birds. So he and others now put out crushed egg shells as a food supplement.

Fred said this Spring was a bit warm and came early. And the birds came early as well.

Fred showed us a photo of his back yard and then of his flowers, frogs, birds, ducks, and other visitors. He said that his flowers come in bloom in a set sequence every year.

Fred’s yard has 13 types of daffodils. BTW birds like split peanuts, as do other animals.  Birds when they migrate follow the stars. And they have the ability to be influenced by the earth’s magnetic field.

Fred said some birds travel over 3,000 miles to migrate. He said that the migration line in recent years has moved about 500 miles farther north. Some birds now are staying around right through the Winter. And recently there seems to be a lot of foxes around.

By the way, birds sleep on branches by having their feet lock onto a branch.

Fred took some questions. And he has offered to have any of us tour his gardens.

CLOSING:
Pres. Jeanne closed our meeting by our reciting the saying “One profits most who serves best.”
