President Jeanne Shipe rang the bell at 7:30 A.M. to open the meeting and welcomed all to AWRC. Then Scott Hock gave a very nice invocation
Pres. Jeanne began the meeting having the members recite the 4 Way test, followed with our saying the Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S. Flag.

SHELTERBOX CHALLENGE:
For every dollar donated to the purchase of ShelterBoxes by April 19th, 2019 a member has committed to match them, at least until the donated total exceeds $1,000 and TWO ShelterBoxes can be purchased. Please give your checks to Treasurer Chris Blechschmidt, or President Jeanne. One donation was made during the meeting.

DISTRICT CONFERENCE 2019:
DGE Herb Klotz has explained that the conference offers a single day option for Saturday. Herb said that the more AW Rotarians that go, the better it will be for us to help plan and run the 2020 District Conference -- His.
NEW AWRC BANNERS:
The design is final and the order has been placed. In a few weeks we will have a stock of banners to trade as we visit other RCs.
THE ROTARY FOUNDATION:
Chair, Barbara Kistler, reminded us of E.R.E.Y. – Every Rotarian Every Year. Our goal is to have EVERY member of AWRC donate at least $25 or more to the TRF Annual Fund before June is over. Donations will be MATCHED with dollars or Recognition Points .
DISTRICT GRANTS:
Herb Klotz told us that there are now a record breaking 36 District Grant applications from 37 RCs for 2019-20. Two are from AWRC.
It is your donations to TRF Annual Fund that generate the future funds for these grants.
OTHER PLANS:
May 5 will be a DESTINATION meeting at LCCC and scholarships will be awarded.
May 15th will be an Open House Mixer meeting here at Luther Crest.

PAUL HARRIS FELLOW AWARD:
AW member Len Salines was called forward by TRF Chair, Barbara Kistler, He was awarded a lapel pin as a Paul Harris Fellow plus 3 which means his donations or points are $4,000 or more. Congratulations, and Thanks, Len.
NEXT MEETING IS April 10. Our Greeter will be Hal Warner and our program will be our quarterly Club Assembly., Treasurer’s report, and Strategic Planning.
Pres. Jeanne introduced our Sgt-at-Arms, Mitch Huston who conducted the drawings and collected Happy Dollars.
The door prize donated by Scott Hock was won by Dan Crane. It was a plaque that said: “Spring is here, so I wet my Plants.”
The $108 pot of the 50:50 was NOT won by Chuck Ehninger’s ticket being drawn followed by a white marble. Only three marbles will be around for next time.
HAPPY DOLLARS:
Chuck Ehninger was happy to donate a real Two Dollar bill that Mitch gave him in change at registration.
Ralph Witcher is happy that he -- and Pres. Jeanne -- attended the RLI (Rotary Leadership Institute) last Saturday. He now has a greater appreciation of World-wide Rotary.
Congratulations go to Jeanne Shipe for completing Part III of RLI and receiving her graduation certificate.

PROGRAM:
Our program today was led by Gwen Pongrancz with Barbara Kistler and her team conducting a 4-Way Test speech contest. These at the RC level in our district will have their winners compete in a Regional competition. Winners of the 5 Regional competitions will compete for a $1,000 prize at the finals to be held on Saturday May 4th at the annual District Conference in Allentown.
There are three Judges and a Timekeeper that make up today’s team. The speech must use the elements of the Rotary Four Way Test as part of its subject matter. The speech is to be 5 to 7 minutes long.
Our competitor this morning is Melena View, a Junior at Parkland High School. She also is the President of the PHS Interact Club, and participates in Snack Packing and other projects.
Speaking from personal experience Melena described the issues facing individuals who are suffering from “invisible” chronic illnesses. These might include, Arthritis, Headaches, and fibromyalgia, for example. Sufferers do not outwardly show their problems and others are unaware.
Melena described how difficult it can be for sufferers. She was articulate, passionate and was very well received. The Judges agreed to have her compete at the next level.
