MEETING  NOTES  April 25, 2018

Our Greeter today was Stephanie Fenstermacher and she did a marvelous job..

President Mike Gschwendtner rang the bell at 7:30 A.M. to open the meeting.  Chuck Ehninger  gave a very nice invocation.

Pres. Mike began the meeting having the members recite the Five-way Test with the fifth question, “Is it Fun?” We recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S.

GUESTS: David Haight; Ala, our Youth Exchange student; Marti, last year’s Y.E. student and her Mother and Father, Marcella and Roberto, and sister, Franca Callibri; and Craig Haviland, Y.E. student host.

LOWHILL FOOD PANTRY:
Please remember  that the Collection jar is at the registration desk for cash and check contributions.

A  PRAYER  REQUEST:
Our friend, Chris Hornaman, now is home recovering from a serious heart attack. He now is scheduled for surgery in a week or so.

VOLUNTEERS  STILL  ARE  NEEDED each Saturday to distribute produce. WE urgently need some of you to sign up to keep this effort going. The Produce will be there.

TEMPTING  TASTES 4 STUFF:
Please buy and  sell tickets and invite guests. It will be a fabulous afternoon.

Herb Klotz reminds us that there are still 6 seats available for potential RC members at a special table at TT4.

WENDY  WEAVER  REPORT:
“I wake up in paradise every morning.  Not just the weather, but the environment and the wonderful, friendly people.  Have been to several gatherings - local women's club, Penn State club, two Rotary clubs, and a party at the Polo grounds which was awesome.  Have also attended some evening live music and dancing evenings on the town square.”

Pres. Mike reminds us that we can use some more donated bottles of cheer for the TT4 auction basket.

SCHEDULE:
President Mike  announces upcoming events at our meetings  and a list of them appears on our website. A list of the appropriate contact information appears each week in the A-W bulletin.

THURSDAY  EVENING  MEETING:
TOMORROW, April 26th at 5:30 P.M. at the Holiday Inn in Breinigsville is the next meeting.

April 27th, Friday, at 2:00 P.M. there will be a walk though at the Holiday Inn.

NEXT  WEEK:
Our Greeter next week will be Sue Weber and the program will be our FRIENDSHIP  EXCHANGE  VISITORS FROM SWEDEN. There are 6 Rotary couples who be our program.

Pres. Mike introduced  S-A-A Mitch Huston who conducted the drawings and collected some “Guilty” dollars.

The first Door Prize  of more Girl Scout cookies donated by Mike G.   was won by Jeanne Shipe. The door prize bottle of hard cider donated by Stephanie Fenstermacher was won by Ihor Fedoriw who then donated it to the TT4 basket of cheer.

The $25 pot of the 50:50 was NOT won by  Ala’s  ticket. Nine   marbles  remain.

HAPPY  DOLLARS:
Mitch Huston announced that today is “International Pin and Badge Day.” Nobody bought the idea.

Don Davis is happy to be back.

Gary Englehardt was looking really good in a business suit and tie.

Ron Coleman passed around an insert from the latest PPL electric bills. It shows pictures of the Sierra Leone group with Herb, Chris, etc.

John Scott proudly announced that his 6 year old son just earned a cub scout merit badge.

Bill Palmer noted that YTD there are but 7 new cases of Polio in Afghanistan, and but one in Pakistan. That is it world-wide!

Sue Weber is happy about our great Youth Exchange program. Ala is with us, and Marti and her family too. Sue gives our special thanks to our hosts for the students.

alyna Stegura reports that Wendy Weaver has found a Rotary Club in Florida that also recites the “5 Way Test” as we do.

Halyna also announced that daughter Christina will be inducted on Friday as a Foreign Service Officer of the U.S. State Dept. She will be assigned to Togo, Africa. Congratulations.

Ralph Witcher is happy that his singing group will be performing at Moravian College on May 4th.

Joe Goll reports that there is one more week of work to do on their new Key West home to make it ready.

Al Lewis said that guest David Haight has filled out an application form for AW membership and will give it to Herb.

Dan Crane asks us to invite potential members to attend TT4. And he told a joke.

Jeanne Shipe reminds us that the Swedes are coming next week.

Herb Klotz announced that last week D7430 received its first $1,000  donation for our October Purple Pinkie Polio Eradication event.

Herb also told of his attending the Berks County Potato Project last weekend that provides 269,000 pounds of potatoes to feed the hungry each year when eventually harvested.

PROGRAM:
Marti, last year’s AW Y.E. student told us of the transition she went through last Summer when she returned to Argentina. It was strange. She is finishing H.S. and next year will be going to college. And right now she is getting ready for her Prom.

Marti’s Mom, Marcella, thanks all of us for the Y.E. program and for taking care of her daughter.

The next part of our program today was a Tempting Tastes 4 update by Gwenn and Gary. Gary in his spiffy suit and tie started off by pointing out the names of AW Rotarians who no longer are available to operate the many aspects of our TT event this year. We NEED  VOLUNTEERS  to actually deliver auction items, help set up the table contents and work at registration sell raffle tickets and work at Check-Out.

Gwenn reviewed a handout sheet and told us about the restaurants that will supply the great foods. She showed pictures of some of the 136 Silent Auction items  --  see elsewhere in this bulletin.

Gwenn noted that Security to prevent stealing this year has been increased. There will be 3 burly “bouncer type” men patrolling the event. And once an auction section is closed, it will be covered over and cordoned off.

Please BUY tickets and also SELL tickets. It’s getting close.

TEMPTING  TASTES 5 is scheduled for the Holiday Inn next year on April 28, 2019.

CLOSING:
We closed our meeting by reciting the saying “One profits most who serves best.”
