Our Greeter today was Chris Blechschmidt and he did a marvelous job.
President Jeanne Shipe rang the bell at 7:30 A.M. to open the meeting and welcomed all to AWRC. Then Chris Blechschmidt gave a very nice invocation with special mention of Amir Famili and his family.
Pres. Jeanne began the meeting having the members recite the 4 Way test, followed with our saying the Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S. Flag.
GUESTS: Subrina Taylor, guest of the club; Andrea from Croatia, our current Youth Exchange student; Marti from Argentina, our 2016-17 Youth Exchange student; Beth Draper, guest of the Hellers from Wisconsin; and Hilda Lewis, Al’s wife.
Pres Jeanne showed a number of pictures from our December meetings and projects. Then she reviewed upcoming dates and announcements.

THE ROTARY FOUNDATION (TRF):
Foundation Chair, Barbara Kistler, reminds us that donations to TRF’s Annual Fund and PolioPlus fund will be matched with dollars up to $100 and recognition points thereafter.
ALL NEW THURSDAY EVENING OPEN HOUSE MIXER:
January 10th at the Holiday Inn in Breinigsville starting at 5:30 P.M. will be a MIXER meeting for potential AWRC members discussing all things Rotary. John Scott, Membership Chair, has two candidates signed up and emphasizes that we need to schedule our guests NOW..
APRIL 28TH is TT5. The next PLANNING COMMITTEE MEETING is on Friday January 18th at the Holiday Inn at 7 a.m.

4-WAY TEST ANNUAL SPEECH CONTEST:
Once again AW Rotarians will conduct a local contest here at a regular Wed. morning meeting. Regionals are mid-April, and the finals are on May 4th at the District Conference. The AWRC competition will be held here at Luther Crest in March.
INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY:
Dee Eng from the Emmaus RC told us that ERC on January 7th will make two special recognition awards to Rotarian women from ERC, and from Area 1 -- that includes AWRC.
ROTARY LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE (RLI) :
There is a training meeting on March 30th in King of Prussia that many D7430 Rotarians might attend. Pres. Jeanne will be going.
NEXT MEETING -- Jan 9th -- Our Greeter will be Randy Beitler. Our program will be a Club Assembly with committee chairs providing quarterly reports.
Pres. Jeanne introduced our Sgt-at-Arms, Mitch Huston who conducted the drawings and collected Happy Dollars. He was using the new Geoff Legg sound system which works well.
There were two door prizes today- First was a bottle of wine donated by Chris Blechschmidt - which was won by Sue Weber. The second was a mix of Christmas candy donated by Mike Gschwendtner which was won by Chris Blechschmidt..
The $54 pot of the 50:50 was WON by Al Lewis’ ticket being drawn followed by a black marble. Multiple marbles will be around for next week.
HAPPY DOLLARS:
Dale Heffner is happy that he and Becky spent 2-1/2 weeks in Alaska with son Josh, Dana and Zeke.
Ronnee Klotz was very happy to see the Mummers’ parade in Philadelphia yesterday morning. The music brought back good memories.
Herb Klotz is happy that they had a great family Christmas.
Sue Weber is doubly happy. It’s great to have 4 new members being inducted today. And she and Bill are heading for their home in Hilton Head for about 3 months.
Marlene Heller is doubly happy as well. First her friend Beth from Wisconsin is here. And she wishes the Webers a great visit to HHI.
Beth Draper paid 4 happy dollars thanking the Hellers and the Webers for their hospitality.
Bill Weber paid a dollar to swap Sue’s door prize with Chris’.
Al Lewis was 4 times happy. He won the 50:50; he is becoming an “Active” AW member; wife Hilda is here; and Ohio State won its football game.
Joe Goll said that they had a great time in St. Thomas, especially when he and Peggy had no kids there for the first 5 days.
Jeanne Shipe is happy that Carrie will be inducted today. And it was great to see the new baby while visiting in Ohio. Ohio State won, but Penn State lost.
PROGRAM:
Pres/ Jeanne asked PDG Bill Weber to come forward and conduct the induction ceremony today. Bill noted that this was the first time in his memory that we added four new members in one event.
INDUCTION OF NEW MEMBERS:
Today we had the pleasure of having Bill Weber conducting the formal ceremony that adds four new members to our Rotary Club. They are:

Bill Weber reviewed the world of Rotary with statistics of 35,000 RCs and 1.2 million Rotarians in 200 countries. And any of us always is welcome at any other Rotary Club anywhere. We are indeed a family working to help others both here in the Lehigh Valley, and with some foreign projects as well.
The sponsors handed out the new member packets with lapel pins, certificates, and badges. And the other members present swore to support the new members. There was a standing ovation for the new AW Rotarians. WELCOME CARRIE, MARLENE, GARY AND AL !
YOUTH EXCHANGE REPORTS:
Marti our Y.E. student from 2 years ago reported that she has finished High School and will attend college to study Political Science. She had a great Christmas with her U.S. family.
Andrea, this year’s Y.E. student from Croatia said she again visited New York City, this time seeing the Radio City Rockettes perform. And she too had a great Christmas with her Rotary family.
