Again we had a snowstorm that this time saw only 11 hearty AW Rotarians and 2 guests attend our meeting.
President-elect Jeanne Shipe rang the bell at 7:30 A.M. to open the meeting. Dale Heffner gave a very nice invocation.
P-E Jeanne began the meeting having the members recite the Five-way Test with the fifth question, “Is it Fun?” We recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S.

HOST Youth Exchange FAMILIES NEEDED:

MEALS ON WHEELS HELP NEEDED:
Dorothy Bloom in a note said: “Please let me know if you are interested in delivering Meals on Wheels (MOW) on President’s Day, Monday, February 19. You would be scheduled to deliver with a MOW driver. You would be the visitor that delivers the meals into the client’s homes. If you have not delivered meals before, we may need some paperwork completed. I will inform you what is needed when you sign up to deliver meals. The last day to sign up is Monday, February 12th.
KINGDOM LIFE WORK SCHEDULE:
Jean Masiko sent a note reminding us that the 1st Friday of each month is the date for AW Volunteers to stock shelves at Kingdom Life Food Pantry, 4333 Lime Kiln Road, Orefield. Anyone who can help should contact Jean.
PURPLE PINKIE 2018:
The date of the 2018 District 7439 Yvette M. Palmer Purple Pinkie 5K Run & Fun Walk will be Saturday, Oct 13, 2018.
ROTARY FOUNDATION RATING:
For the 10th consecutive year, The Rotary Foundation (TRF) has received the highest rating, four stars, from Charity Navigator, an independent evaluator of charities in the U.S. The Foundation earned the maximum of 100 points for demonstrating both strong financial health and commitment to accountability and transparency.
FOUNDATION GALA MARCH 17TH:
AWRC is supporting the annual Foundation Gala fundraiser with a basket of cheer. Members are asked to donate a bottle or two as we have in the past. Pres. Mike will take custody of bottles starting Feb. 14th here at the meeting.
DINING OUT:
The next Dining Out will be a “German Night” on February 22nd at the Stoney Run Inn. A menu is available. Please sign up by February 16th.
SCHEDULE:
President Mike announces upcoming events at our meetings and a list of them appears on our website. A list of the appropriate contact information appears each week in the A-W bulletin.
THURSDAY EVENING MEETING:
TOMORROW, Feb. 8th at the Holiday Inn in Breinigsville starting at 5:30 P.M. Our program this week will be a presentation by Herb and Chris about their trip to Sierra Leone and a report from the Threads of Change committee. Please bring a bottle of spirits to add to the Allentown-West Basket of Cheer for the District Gala and Auction.
TT 4 MEETING:
The next TT4 project meeting will be at the Holiday Inn on Friday, February 23, starting at 7:30 AM. Gwenn and Gary will be having breakfast there starting at 7 AM. Please join them for breakfast if you can.
MEMBERSHIP PLANS:
The meeting planned for today will be held next week.
A full club effort for the next 5 months is needed to grow our membership. Volunteers are needed to serve on the committee.
NEXT WEEK:
Our Greeter will Marlene Ritter and the program is Members Chris Blechschmidt & Herb Klotz providing “A Snapshot of Sierra Leone & Matru Jong: Possibly the Best Place in the Whole universe.”
P-E Jeanne introduced S-A-A Mitch Huston but said that no drawings would be held today. Mitch said that each of the attendees today will get double tickets next week instead.
HAPPY DOLLARS:
In lieu of Happy Dollars, members took turns with announcements and stories today.
Jeanne Shipe said that yesterday she and Gail Micca placed our first order with Second Harvest for the Parkland SD Snack Pack program. The cost was considerably lower than from the last source. Jeanne discussed the Parkland plans and answered some questions.
And we received a thank you note from the Kingdom Life folks for the AW members’ accumulated cash donations of $2, 991 last year.
Dale Heffner gave the background about the new AWRC project with “Threads of Change” that supports Foster Care Parents. Please see the separate article in this bulletin.
Dale noted that they need legal advice about leases and liability issues.
VP Amir Famili reports that 477 lbs. of produce were purchased and delivered to the Lowhill Food Pantry last Friday. Then on Saturday Chris Blechschmidt and others distributed the produce to clients.
PROGRAM:
Gail Micca could not be with us today. She will give her Classification Talk at our March 7th regular meeting.
CLOSING:
We closed the meeting by reciting the saying “One profits most who serves best.”
