Meet our Mongolia 21|21 scholarship recipients! These are the students who will be attending school, thanks to the scholarship program we are supporting, through Nick Millward. Donations from our club support four of these students, and one other club in the US is supporting the fifth.
Amar Enhdal is the third son of his family. He lives in Selenge province and is a first year student of mechanical engineering at the Mongolian University of Science and Technology. He says he wants to pursue this profession "because I am creative and I want to create new ideas for productivity." He continues, "I want to invent new things that are useful to people, just like Thomas Edison, Nikola Tesla, Elon Musk, and [Leonardo] DaVinci."
Bulganbayar Nansaljav is from Shoved province where she grew up. Her father is a herdsman and driver. She is currently studying accounting at the University of Finance and Economics. She believes that "after completing my studies, I will be able to make a significant contribution to the development and future of my country." Bulganbayar expects to have a 3.5 GPA next semester, and that she will be able to "make my dreams come true." Besides continuing her studies, she plans to "spend 8-9 hours volunteering. I also participate in the English-speaking club in my free time." She also aims to be more independent and "less financially dependent on my parents" by working part time during her vacation.
Bilguutei Tsend-Ayush is a freshman at Mongolian State University of Education, majoring in Historical and Cultural Tourism. He is from Khovd province. Bilguutei is active in many sports and was awarded a level 2 certificate for football from the provincial sports committee.
"Becoming a student," he says, "creates new experiences, entirely new dreams, and goals. I wish to get a quality education and to become a competent professional in the sector. Student life strengthens my independence, my goals, and future plans."
Altankhuyag Onzul, who is the oldest child in her family in Selenge province, has been very active in her education. She has participated in many clubs, which helped her to develop versatile skills. She said, "In the sixth grade, I joined the school's music club, learned to play the national harp, and successfully participated in many competitions during my 5-year study ..."
She continued, "In the 11th grade, I became one of the first 90 members of the 'Youth Parliament 2021' program organized by the Chairman of the Parliament, Zandanshatar.G and was elected as a representative member of the Selenge province."
As part of that program, Altankhuyag participated in parliamentary education and worked to increase awareness of climate change, and also did volunteer work.
In 2021, Altankhuyag founded a new group called Mini Parliament, and served as its leader. In March, 2022, she became a member of the Children's Council of Selenge province. In November, she was elected as the vice chair of the Children's Council of Selenge province, a position she currently holds.
Altankhuyag was selected as the Outstanding Student of Soum in 2022 and the best graduate of the school in 2023 and graduated with the Best Alumni award of the Mongolian Students' Association. She is now studying in the first course of the Philosophy class of the Dep't of Humanities at the School of Science of the National University of Mongolia.
Oyuntugs Narmandakh was born in Khovd province and attends the Financial Management program the University of Finance and Economics.
She says, "One of the biggest problems I had in studying [her major] was the financial problem. It seems to me that financial freedom is almost impossible...unless your family owns a big business or is a high government official." She states that it is very gratifying that some students such as herself are exempt from paying tuition with the help of Friends of Mongolia and its donors, however, she worries that many young people don't have the same opportunity. "All of this," she says, "is due to the lack of financial knowledge..." She continues, "...I can contribute to the betterment of everyone's understanding of finance and economics education." She wants to be able to "spread this idea to as many people as possible, to enable them to understand, and take advantage of their opportunities. Therefore, I will do well in Financial Management and after graduation, I would like to contribute to the development of my country."
INTERACT BREAKFAST
A sign-up sheet for the Northwestern Lehigh Interact Club breakfast was circulated. The event is on October 25 at the Middle School and begins at 8:30 A.M. We will meet at the Northwestern Lehigh Middle School to have breakfast with our Interactors. Two special students will be honored at that meeting. Please join us at 6636 Northwest Road, New Tripoli. The breakfast will be served at 8:30 A.M. Please sign up with Gwenn by October 10 so that we can provide an accurate account to the food services group.
SAVE THE DATE:
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 22, will be a special meeting. DG Diane will be attending, and we will have special recognition of our members who work on food insecurity projects. It's the day before Thanksgiving, so please plan to spend your morning with us before you travel or begin your Thanksgiving preparations. This is our day to give thanks for our District Governor and for all of you who are serving the hungry in the Lehigh Valley.

SNACK PACKING:
The NWL Snack Packing will take place Wednesday, October 18, starting at 2:00. Each month will be the 3rd Wednesday from 2-2:35.

KINGDOM LIFE FOOD DISTRIBUTION:
Much help is still needed. There are many more people looking for food than before the pandemic, and the setup work takes many hands. Please come out if you can help.

PARKLAND C.A.R.E.S. PRODUCE DELIVERY:
The Pantry holds its food distributions on the first Saturday of each month for all of 2023. Three volunteers are needed each time. Food collections for Parkland C.A.R.E.S. are held the third Wednesday of each month at the Pantry on Kernsville Road.
MEALS ON WHEELS:
Meal delivery by AW Rotarians takes place twice each week. Helen Papathanasiou always needs substitute volunteers.
NEXT MORNING MEETING IN-PERSON:
The next in-person meeting is October 11 – Club Assembly. Chairs need to provide their update reports to Gwenn by October 4.
