Today was a Zoom meeting with about 30 people on line. After some conversations President Ralph Witcher opened the meeting at 7:30 A.M. Pres. Ralph gave a very nice invocation.
GUESTS ON LINE:

Pres. Ralph began the meeting by leading us in the Pledge of allegiance to the Flag of the U.S. .
STUDENT OF THE MONTH:
Brianna Fritzinger, a senior at Northwestern Lehigh HS was honored as our October Student of the Month. Rev. Jeffrey Kistler conducted the ceremony. See separate article.
Briana thanked us for the recognition.
NWL Counselor, Nicole Zimmerman praised Briana for her service and many achievements, saying she is a role model.
THE FOUR-WAY TEST EXAMPLE:
Marlene asked for a volunteer or two to tell a story indicative of their application of ethical standards recently. Marlene said that it could be known as “The Rotary Smell Test.” Then we decided that we want all Politicians to start using it. John Scott said that it works for kids too, e.g. Did you brush your teeth?”
WHAT ROTARY MEANS TO ME:
Pat Witcher said that she is amazed at all that Rotarians do. We apply the 4-way test which is life-giving and long-lasting. She said that “Rotary is The Good Samaritan” and that it inspires her.
Pres. Ralph displayed the list of October members and their celebration dates.
HIGHWAY CLEANUP:
The Highway Cleanup project could use some help this weekend. Please let Gail Micca know if you'd like to join the crew and beautify our stretch of road on 222 in Breinigsville.
VALLEY YOUTH HOUSE:
Gail Micca said that more luggage is needed. Also she wants us to find a way to fill some “Welcome Baskets.”
ANOTHER IDEA:
Nick Millward suggests that we start a Book Club. There will be more info coming.
AWRC 2020 CHRISTMAS PARTY, a.k.a. HOLIDAY PICNIC:
CANCELLED. Too many conflicts kept the registration too low.
Pres. Ralph asks members to send him ideas on how we can hold a face-to-face gathering in the future.
YVETTE PALMER 5K PURPLE PINKIE RACE:
The race this year will be virtual and is on Oct. 24 which is World Polio Day. It starts at 10 A.M. and Mike McGovern is the featured speaker. He is the world-wide Chair of Rotary’s PolioPlus.

STATUS OF MORNING MEETINGS;
The AWRC B.O.D. has suspended all AWRC face-to-face meetings until further notice. Zoom meetings are now scheduled for each Wednesday at 7:30 A.M.
NEXT MORNING MEETING:
Wednesday October 21st starting at 7:30 a.m. We will use Zoom to meet Our program will be Kassie Hilgert, President & CEO of ArtsQuest to discuss “The Impact of Covid-19 on Musikfest (2020) and the ArtsQuest Mission.”
STATUS OF THURSDAY EVENING MEETING:
No Thursday evening meetings are planned for September or October 2020.
HAPPY DOLLARS and MEMBER NEWS:
Pres. Ralph has said that he soon will be sending to Treasurer Chris the list of members and the dollar amounts they owe since April first. Then Chris will send us invoices.
Tom Friday described their daughter’s wedding last weekend. It was held on a rooftop in Allentown. It was good weather and 71 people attended.
Jeanne Shipe took time this morning to stare at the stars.
Bill Weber got rid of his telescope because sleep is more important.
Since a number of our members are looking at the stars, it was suggested that we form a “Rotary Star Gazers Club.” More to follow. John Scott even studies satellites in the sky.
John Scott is enjoying his new offices in Allentown.
Tom Friday welcomes his new daughter-in-law. And Ralph Witcher indeed is happy too.
Jeff Kistler is happy to be taking a temporary job as a Pastor of the Zion Church in Allentown.
Bob Hobaugh noted that the Area 1 PETS meeting was just held and that Gail Micca was the star.
PROGRAM:
Pres. Ralph Witcher introduced Keith Hoffman, CPA, CDFA Sr. Mgr. at Herbein & Co. to give his Classification Talk
Keith received a 40 year and under award from the PICPA. And in 2011 he received an award from the PA Institute of CPAs.
Keith was born and raised in Hanover, PA. He attended Shippensburg College. It was an hour away and a division 2 Wrestling competitor. He earned his BSBA in May, 2000.
Keith went to work for Herbein & Company, Inc. an Accounting firm in Spring House, PA (Reading(. He started as an Auditor, which he found to be boring. Then he moved to working with small businesses.
Keith earned his CPA status in March, 2003. In June 2009 Herbein’s opened a Lehigh Valley office. There are 200 employees there.
Keith does Business Consulting with small and closely held businesses. This includes many facets such as Tax preparation work.
In May of 2015 Keith married Myrna in the Lehigh University Chapel with about 500 guests. They have a 4 and 3 year old son. They have a home in Weisenberg Township.
Keith now serves on the b.o.d. pf the Victory House in Bethlehem. It is a Men’s shelter.
Keith loves to travel and he showed some photos of family and locales. He is a P.S.U. fan first; an Eagles fan second.
He wants to give back, thus becoming a Rotarian. He helped deliver food to 150 families last weekend.
