Our meeting today was “offsite” and held at the Northwestern Middle School cafeteria, as we do each year.
After allowing us to enjoy a very nice breakfast, President Mike Gschwendtner rang the bell after 7:30 A.M. to open the meeting. Rev. Jeff Kistler gave a very nice invocation with special mention of Bob Nagle, George and Janet Ikeda, Don Davis, Dawn Costello and Chris Hornaman.
GUESTS:
Lola and Patrick Harrington, Parents of our Student of the month; Ala, our Youth Exchange student from Poland; Holly Mengel, Northwestern Counselor; and Jennifer Holman, Asst. Supt. Northwestern Lehigh School District.
Pres. Mike introduced AW Rotarian Dr. Mary Anne Wright, NWL SD Superintendent. Mary Anne welcomed us all and thanked AW Rotarians for their ongoing support of the NWL Interact Club. She said these are great students with great parents. She also mentioned that she is retiring at the end of June.
STUDENT of the MONTH:
Hallie Harrington was introduced as our S. of the M. of April by Barbara Kistler who led the ceremony. See separate article.
NWL Counselor, Holly Mengel reinforced all of Hallie’s accomplishments and community services.
YOUTH EXCHANGE STUDENT REPORT:
Ala says she continues to learn English and still is having a good time. The Y.E. group recently enjoyed three days visiting Washington, D.C. And she will be touring out west when school is over.
Marti, last year’s Y.E. student with us will be visiting with her parents here on April 26th.
LOWHILL FOOD PANTRY:

TEMPTING TASTES 4:
Gwenn Carr has materials -- Posters -- promoting TT4 and said that we will have an Austrian and an African restaurant feeding us this year. She thanks the NWL Interact students for attending and helping us.
Gwenn also reported that the Auction Item Party at their home last Sunday has increased the total number of Items to Auction off to 130.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR CLEAN-UP:
Sunday, April 22nd from 1 to 3 PM the NWL Interact students need some AW volunteers to assist in the clean-up work in the Park across from the Schools. Please contact Jean Machamer if you will help.

ENGINEERS WITHOUT BORDERS (EWB) EVENT:
THIS SUNDAY, April 15, 2018 from 4 to 7 P.M. at DeSales University is the annual EWB fundraiser Auction and Dinner. AW Rotarians as EWB partners are encouraged to attend and enjoy the fellowship and bid in the auctions.

There were no drawings today, nor were there any Happy Dollars, since we were offsite.
PROGRAM:
Jean Machamer is the AWRC Advisor to the Northwestern Lehigh Interact Club. Jean led the session that featured some of the I.C. students who were present this morning.
Jean noted that last September the IC had 5 members, and today the count is 28 !! Natalie and Cameron are the latest additions.
The IC President, Dillan, reported that the club members have raised $1,000 and decided to give it for hurricane relief in Puerto Rico. They will continue to support this effort since the 2018 hurricane season is coming and may be rough again.
Morgan, a Junior at the H.S. reported on the success of the Krispy Kreme sales that netted over $500.
Ariana, the IC VP said that they had conducted a Food Drive and made Christmas better for some families.
Patti told us that the recent Floor Hockey contest raised $231 for good works.
Cameron asked for AW Rotarians to come on ‘Earth Day”, April 22nd to join them in cleaning up the Park across the street. And she told of the Bake Sale that raised $121.
Jean Machamer said that the IC students meet only twice each month. It takes a lot of planning to make these fundraisers happen.
Jean said that three of the NWL IC students will be attending the April 28th District Conference in Wyomissing. AND two NWL Juniors will be attending the RYLA - Camp Neidig leadership weekend this June.
On behalf of AW members, Jean thanked the students and the Cafeteria for making this meeting a success.
Next IC Pres. Dillan presented AW Pres. Mike G. with a check for $1,000 for Puerto Rican relief. Jean Machamer added her $100 and the total with the AWRC donation came to $1,800. Well done, Guys !
