Our Greeter today was Ron Coleman and he did a marvelous job.
President Jeanne Shipe rang the bell at 7:30 A.M. to open the meeting. Bill Weber gave a very nice invocation.
Pres. Jeanne began the meeting having the members recite the Four-way Test. Then we recited the pledge of allegiance to the U.S. Flag.

Pres. Jeanne showed pictures starting with montage of last week’s drum corps. Pictures. Then we saw a picture of Herb Klotz at Kitty Hawk last week. He presented a KHRC Banner to Jeanne for the club.

AWRC ANNUAL PICNIC DATE:
Sue Weber has announced that the picnic will be held on Sunday, August 19th at Tranquility Farm in Vera Cruz. Come starting at 4:00 PM; eat at 6:00 PM. Remember that there is fishing in the pond.

RESTAURANT ADVERTISING NEEDED:
We need eight (8) or more Restaurants to support Tempting Tastes 5. AW Rotarians are asked to tell restaurants that they use that AW Rotarians are eating there. We will do so with a table sign as we do our monthly Dining Out events.
ROTARY LEARNING OPPORTUNITY:
On Saturday, October 20th there is an RLI (Rotary Leadership Institute) training session at DeSales University. AWRC members will have their registration fees reimbursed after they attend. This is a great opportunity to learn all about Rotary.
THE NEXT THURSDAY EVENING MEETING will be on August 9th at 5:30 P.M. at the Holiday Inn in Breinigsville.

The 50:50 pot of $53 was not won by Jeanne Shipe whose ticket was drawn. Seven marbles remain.
HAPPY DOLLARS:
Halyna Stegura is happy to have DG Cindy here today. And her current position of looking down relates to her eye surgery, but it allows her to check for shoes that don’t match.
Bill Palmer was happy to identify Bob Gordon as the sailboat occupant in last week’s bulletin photo.
Sue Weber is happy to have DG Cindy Hornaman and Area 1 AG Gary Rohrbach with us today. Sue said that our Youth Exchange student, Andrea, will arrive in PA. on August 16th.
Wendy Weaver is glad to be here with us.
Chris Blechschmidt told of his Mother traveling with his daughter and his daughter meeting and making a new friend. They keep in touch and recently were reunited when the friend visited from Dallas.
Guest Suzanne Fischer - a New Jersey Rotarian, thanks us all for Rotary.
Joe Goll says his son and daughter-in-law are back from two years in Greece, and are very happy about that. Next week the family is going to their Rehoboth beach home.
John Scott is happy that his Foundation’s fiscal year has ended. And John received a nice award.
PROGRAM:
Our program today was our 2018-19 D7430 Governor, Cindy Hornaman (Emmaus RC) , Area 1 Assistant Governor, Gary Rohrbach, introduced Cindy with a brief Rotary and personal “bio.” The club members gave Cindy a standing ovation welcome.
DG Cindy provided us with a very different Governor’s speech than we might have expected. It was not a speech but more of a conversation. She began by saying “Let’s have some fun with a test.” She randomly asked a member to tell what he / she knew about another member selected by chance.
First it was Ralph Witcher’s turn and he talked about Pastor Jean Masiko. Then Gail Micca was asked to talk about Attorney Jerry Frank, and John Scott to talk about Dr. Len Salines. It was fun and instructive. Each participant got an “Inspiration” lapel pin.
The purpose of the tests was to underscore the value of Rotary friendships and networks. Then she put Pres. Jeanne on the spot asking her the year that our RC was chartered. Jeanne correctly answered with 1962.
Cindy noted that there is a lot of energy in our members interactions. Some of us are very good friends besides being Rotarians. It is great to do service things with people that we really like…..and have fun, too. And we need to grow our knowledge of other members, e.g. by sitting in different places each week.
Cindy spoke of the 2018-19 RI President, Barry Rassin, calling for a plan of action, and for members to be “People of action.” And she said that the Rotary headcount is growing in Asia and India, but struggling to breakeven in North America.
Our district has added two new RCs recently, taking us to 45 now. The plan for the next two years is to add five new RCs, either new or satellite clubs. Cindy asks us not to be afraid of change. A geographic study of population centers of our district shows where we can grow. The Lehigh Valley is one such location.
Cindy thanks AW Rotarians for our generous donations every year to the Rotary Foundation. It also allows us to leverage those dollars using District Grants. The applications for 2019-20 District Grants will be accepted starting November 1st.
Cindy explained that the annual District Conference in 2019 is May 3 to 5. It will be operating at the Renaissance Hotel and Miller Symphony Hall in Allentown.
For the first time the annual District Training Assembly will be an integral part of the conference. This eliminates the time and expense of a separate DTA. The overall conference theme will relate to feeding the hungry.
Cindy described the many special features and events planned for the conference. One thing to note is that one event at Miller Hall will be open to the public, and AWRC may set up a table to educate the public. Please see the D7430 website to register and to learn more.
The more AW attendees at the conference, the more goodies we will earn. WFMZ will be promoting the conference, and EBC also are a sponsor again.
CLOSING:
We closed our meeting by reciting the saying “One profits most who serves best.”
BOARD MEETING:
At about 8:45 a.m. there was a Board of Directors meeting in the Arts & Crafts room with DG Cindy present and asking questions.
