Today was an in-person meeting at Madeline’s in Fogelsville. Peter Wohlsen was our Greeter. There were 25 of us present plus 6 on line.

OPENING:
PDG Herb Klotz started the meeting at 7:30 A.M.
Chuck Ehninger, using Ralph Waldo Emerson, gave a very nice invocation.
Bill Palmer led us in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the U.S.
PRIZES:
Mitch Huston had a ticket drawn for the door prize. The power washer was won by Herb Klotz.
The 50:50 prize of $15 was won by Cindy Hornaman who donated it to the Rotary Foundation via AWRC.
HAPPY DOLLARRS:
Mitch Huston spent 5 days in Maine and 5 more in Texas and that made him happy.
Chuck Ehninger is happy for Ernie Boll today.
Sue Weber is delighted to have Sedef here from Turkey, whom they met on a Friendship Exchange. And she is pleased to have Bill Erdman here.
Bill Erdman thanked Sue for the invitation.
Cindy Hornaman is happy to be here with Sedef, and is happy that it is Foundation month in Rotary.
ROTARY BASICS -- and BEYOND:
Gwenn Carr said “We had a great heartfelt Q&A session with Jill and Peter at our home in Kutztown on Sunday, November 6th. I think we all learned more about Rotary at the club, district, zone and international level. There are so many opportunities for each of us to provide “Service above Self”. Herb chimed in with some great stories and examples.”
Please join us for a pizza party on November 15th at Herb’s house. This is another opportunity to learn more about Rotary and where you fit into the picture!

Our program will be Dr. Mohsin Hashim, Dirdtor Russian Studies-Muhlenberg College to provide An Update: The International Crises in Ukraine: How and Why it Matters.
PROGRAM:
PDG Herb noted that over $400 million of projects were funded last year via the Rotary Foundation (TRF). Herb introduced Bill Erdman to review the many ways to give money to TRF.
BACKGROUND:
OUR Rotary Foundation is a non-profit corporation founded in 1917 that supports the efforts of Rotary International to achieve world understanding and peace through international humanitarian, educational, and cultural exchange programs. It is supported solely by voluntary contributions. Founded: 1917
The Rotary Foundation transforms your gifts into service projects that change lives both close to home and around the world.
What impact can one donation have?
For as little as 60 cents, a child can be protected from polio.
$50 can provide clean water to help fight waterborne illness.
$500 can launch an antibullying campaign and create a safe environment for children.
Financial structure ---
The Rotary Foundation is organized as a public charity operated exclusively for charitable purposes and governed by a Board of Trustees. The operations of Rotary International, a member organization, are overseen by its Board of Directors.
The headquarters of Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation are in Evanston, Illinois, USA. We have associate foundations in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Germany, India, Japan, Korea, and the United Kingdom.
Bill Erdman noted that there always is a way to donate to TRF. He said that TRF is the heart of Rotary. Ways to donate:
Write checks.
Use “Rotary Direct” which allows you to set an amount and a frequency for automatic payments.
E.R.E.Y. which stands for Every Member Every Year with an annual donation of $100.
The Paul Harris Society -- separate from Paul Harris Fellows. Members of the PHS commit to donate at least $1,000 every year -- as long as they are financially able.
Bill described the various recognition ways as people donate. Over time when an individual’s donations reach $1,000 a Paul Harris Fellow (PHF) pin will be awarded. Once total cash donations reach $10,000 you are considered a Major Donor with levels of recognition above that.
PHF AWARD:
PDG Herb presented a PHF +6 award to Len Salines.
Bill discussed Recognition Points. TRF sets aside in your account a recognition point for every dollar you donate. These points are used to promote giving by others, and also to award honorary recognition to non-Rotarians.
JOURNEY TO THE NEXT MILLION:
This is a plan to have our District 7430 members raise $one million for TRF by the end of next year. We are about half way now.
AWRC members donate about $10,000 a year.
PDG Herb Klotz then described our history with projects and TRF grants in their support.
Herb noted that in the world-wide universe of Foundation, OUR Foundation has received a top four star rating for the last 14 years in a row. Sometimes it has been listed as No. 1 in the world.
TRF includes three basic funds -- The Annual Fund, PolioPlus, and the Endowment Fund. It is the Annual Fund that gives 50% of prior years’ donations back to the District to fund Grants.
Grant funds must be for projects that fall into one of RI’s seven areas of focus ---
Promoting peace. Rotary encourages conversations to foster understanding within and across cultures. ...
Fighting disease. ...
Providing clean water, sanitation, and hygiene. ...
Saving mothers and children. ...
Supporting education. ...
Growing local economies. ...
Protecting the environment.
There are “District” Grants and “Global” grants. AWRC has received over $25,000 in District Grants since 2013 that adds to our cash part to fund projects such as Snack Packing.
And besides supporting other Global Grants, we have been co-leaders in two Global Grants for about $85,000. These have been with Engineers Without Borders (EWB) for work in Sierra Leone.
