Today was a Zoom meeting with 21 on line.
Pres. Gail Micca rang the bell to open the meeting at 7:30 A.M. And she welcomed us all.

OPENING:
Chuck Ehninger gave a very nice invocation. Then Pres. Gail led us in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the U.S. She then led us in the recitation of the Four Way Test to which we added “Is it fun?”
AWRC HISTORY STORY:
Past President, Barbara Kistler, delivered today’s story about our Purple Pinkie 5K district fundraiser.
CELEBRATIONS:
Pres. Gail displayed the list of December member celebration events.
MEMBERSHIP MINUTE:
Pres. Gail filled in for Herb Klotz. She said that we need a member to step up and take the chair of our Membership Committee that Herb is leaving.
HAPPY DOLLARS & STUFF:
Nick Millward is back in the Lehigh Valley for 3 weeks. He is studying Russian still.
Ernie Boll was on calling in from Arizona.
Gail Micca was recruiting guest Bill Delicker and his wife to join AWRC.
Bill Dellicker’s son, Kevin, is running for Congress.
Gail Micca is happy that she got to North Dakota to see her parents.
Marlene Heller is very happy that she watched the D7430 Showcase Tuesday story last evening. It was all about RI’s next world-wide health project as we are almost done eliminating Polio.
The new project is to eliminate Malaria from the world. She was impressed with the new “blue” nets that cover a sleeping person and kill mosquitos that touch it. It costs $100 and lasts about 5 years.
RON COLEMAN RECEUVES AN AWARD:
Pres. Gail played a video of Ron being awarded the “Realtor Emeritus” award for all of his good work in helping others in his community.
Ralph Witcher is happy for Ron.
KINGDOM LIFE FOOD CENTER:
Jean Masiko said that last weekend about 400 families were served. Ralph and Pat Witcher were there working.
PARKLAND C.A.R.E.S.:
They served 165 families last Saturday.
Their next event is on January 8th.
LOWHILL FOOD PANTRY:
Amir Famili delivered 520 lbs. of produce to them last week.
ANNUAL HOLIDAY PARTY:
On Saturday, December 11 we held our annual holiday party at Brookside Country Club in Macungie. There were ____ AW Rotarians and guests. Pres. Gail reports that we had a wonderful time at our Holiday Party at Brookside. Kathy Ott baked the most awesome cake, Lisa Walton created beautiful centerpieces, Seth Witcher did a great job of entertaining us and Gail made some special chocolates and ornaments to share. The food was delicious and it was great to see each other to celebrate the holidays. Cindy Lou Who even joined us! The only problem was - it went too fast! Happy Holidays everyone!
PEDIATRIC CANCER DRIVE:
Kathy Ott , Gail Micca and Tori Morgan distributed candy to children as part of this fundraiser.
CASINO NIGHT AT THE WHEELS MUSEUM:

JANUARY MEETING SITE CHANGE:
Our January 12th in-person meeting will take place at the Parkland Community Library at 4422 Walbert Ave, Allentown. This was arranged by Debbie Jack.
We will continue our in-person meetings there through March. Stephanie Fenstermacher of the Buttered Crumb will supply some breakfast food.
We need some volunteers to set up a coffee station each time.
PROGRAM:
Program Chair, Ralph Witcher, introduced Bill Dellicker to tell us all about the Ontelaunee Park Veterans Memorial.
Willard Dellicker is the Secretary, NW Lehigh Veterans. He has a 45 year career that includes military service and a time with LCTI. He spent 5 years in the Navy as a fighter pilot. He earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State. He and wife have been married for 51 years.
Bill again thanked AW Rotarians for our $2,500 donation at last week’s meeting.
The subject is the new VETERANS MEMORIAL currently under construction. The four townships of the Northwestern Lehigh School District have come together in a unified effort to honor our local Veterans with a permanent memorial to be located in Ontelaunee Park.
The vision of the committee is to list all the names of our residents who served in the military services since the Revolutionary War -- actually back to the French & Indian war -- to the present time, with provisions for adding Veterans’ names into the future.
Planning work on the memorial started in June 2018. Bill showed us the architect’s image of the completed memorial, and then some current photos of the progress.
There will be 11 granite columns -- somewhat decided by 11-11 Veterans Day. Each column is 6 feet high and weighs 3,000 lbs. The names of the vets will be listed on the columns on two faces. They already have the details about 2,480 veterans listed in a website file, which is the second goal.
The estimated cost of the project is $520,000. They have cash donations of $262,000 so far, and in-kind donations of about $135,000. They still need another $100,000 in cash.
There is a U.S. flag on a pole on a granite base in the center. And around this is a 21 feet diameter star -- the size was guided by our 21 gun salute tradition.
There will be 33 notable quotations inscribed from Ben Franklin to Ronald Reagan. There will be a Time Capsule in the base of one pillar. There will be a large statue of an Eagle on top of that pillar.
They issued some coins at $20 each and raised $6,000. The Eight Oaks distillery brewed a special bourbon and raised $7,290.
Each pillar is for a different war. And there is space to add names that come in. The last pillar is the current “War on Terrorism” which has no end date yet.
The opening dedication event is set for Memorial Day 2022.
