Our Greeter today was Dr. Bob Gordon and he did a marvelous job.
President Jeanne Shipe rang the bell at 7:30 A.M. to open the meeting. Doing double duty, Dr. Bob Gordon gave a very nice invocation.
Pres. Jeanne began the meeting having the members recite the Four-way Test. Then we recited the pledge of allegiance to the U.S. Flag.

Pres. Jeanne showed pictures starting with the article in the Northwestern Press about our scholarship awards. Then we saw Amir Famili introducing last week’s speaker, Dr. Pushpinder Puri and his photo of the Golden Palace. There was a photo of Y.E. student, Ala before leaving for the west coast tour. The picture of the Japanese landscape painting that has been passed down to AW Presidents for 38 years. And our Thursday evening meeting at the Boos Rock Winery.

BANNER PRESENTATION:
Wendy Weaver presented a RC banner from the Villages – Noon RC to Pres. Jeanne. Wendy explored joining this noon RC to get more sleep. Then she visited at 7 A.M. breakfast club that felt like home, i.e. AWRC. So sleep deprivation continues.

July 26th is the next Thursday evening meeting at 5:30 P.M. at the Holiday Inn in Breinigsville. A program about past, present and future Allentown-West Rotary Club finances will be featured.

DISTRICT GOVERNOR VISIT:
August 1, 2018 our D7430 Governor, Cindy Hornaman (Emmaus RC) will be our program. At 8:30 a.m. there will be a Board of Directors meeting in the Arts & Crafts room which is downstairs toward the medical center.
AWRC ANNUAL PICNIC DATES:
Sue Weber suggestion of Sunday, August 12th revealed many members having conflicts. The alternate date of August 19th seemed to have no conflicts. Stay tuned.
ROTARY LEARNING OPPORTUNITY:
Herb reminds us that on Saturday, October 20th there is an RLI (Rotary Leadership Institute) training session at DeSales University. AWRC members will have their registration fees reimbursed after they attend. This is a great opportunity to learn all about Rotary.
DISTRICT 7430 CHANGEOVER DINNER 2019 DATE:
DGE Herb Klotz has reserved Monday, June 24, at DeSales University for the 2019 Changeover.
2020 DISTRICT CONFERENCE PLANS:
DGE Herb Klotz already is making plans for his Conference, and he invites all AW members to join the committee. It is our responsibility to put on a fabulous conference for the district Rotarians.
NEXT MEETING -- JULY 18th:
Our Greeter will be Gary Englehardt . And our program will be Mitch Huston our PR Committee Chair. He will tell us about The Drum Corps International.
Pres. Jeanne introduced S-a-A Mitch Huston who conducted the drawings and collected some “guilty” fines.
The door prize bottle of wine donated by Bob Gordon was won by Joe Goll.
The 50:50 pot of $26 was not won by Randy Beitler whose name was drawn. Nine marbles remain.
HAPPY DOLLARS:
Wendy Weaver is very happy to be here today with all of her friends. Also she is very happy that she moved to the Villages in Florida. She sees her son almost every other weekend.
Sue Weber is happy to see Wendy.
Herb Klotz kept his promise and told us another joke gleaned from the restroom stall in the Shanty. It was about a son of a horse, i.e. a pony. We laughed.
Ron Coleman is happy to learn that he soon will have a mural painted on the wall of his office building. This is the 7th of many planned in Allentown.
Bill Weber is happy to report that the City and the Wheels Museum again will conduct cruises on Hamilton Street on Saturdays featuring antique cars, etc.
PROGRAM:
Our program today was our Treasurer Chris Blechschmidt with the 2017-18 Official Year End Treasurer's Report. And President Jeanne Shipe reviewed the 2018-2019 Budget Rollout.
Chris spoke first with a series of slides showing both Revenue sources and Expenses for the AW Operating budget. We spent about what we took in, which means we are pretty good managers. Chris showed some great “pie” charts illustrating the income and expense percentages.
Then Chris moved to the AWRC Foundation activities for last year. This is a 501 C 3 IRS foundation. He reminded us that 10% of the Net proceeds from fundraisers -- monies not specifically designated -- goes into a Reserve account. And each year 5% of the Reserve balance is transferred to the Budget account.
Chris said that 55% of our donated funds go to Lehigh Valley and Youth humanitarian projects. We had a carryover from the 2016-17 Rotary year. This allowed us to overspend the budget in 2017-18 but still have a positive balance starting July 1, 2018.
Next we started with Bob Gordon doing triple duty be passing out………. copies of Pres. Jeanne’s 2018-19 Budget of Revenues and Expenses. The income for the AW Foundation’s use for youth and humanitarian projects comes mainly from our Tempting Tastes fundraiser of the prior year. So we know that number.
Jeanne said that the planned budget amounts for 2018-19 are about the same as last year, except proportioned to reflect our lower member headcount. Two concerts for Luther Crest are included. At least two membership networking events are planned. And we now include our dues expense as members of the Chamber of Commerce.
This year we will donate $500 along with 3 other area RCs to Second Harvest for their Vegetable Garden project. Leftover monies will pay for a wrapping machine for protective plastic coverings. And there are monies included for a grant for the Threads of Change project. We will have one less scholarship than last year. And we plan to support the Miracle League this year in some manner.
Both Jeanne and Chris answered some questions. And each received well-deserved applause.
