Today was an in-person meeting at Madeline’s in Fogelsville. There were 30 folks present. Laurie Grube was our Greeter. PDG Herb Klotz handled registration and the door prize drawing.

OPENING:
President Gail Micca at 7:30 rang the bell and started the meeting.
Chuck Ehninger gave a very nice invocation with special mention of Michelle Steiner who is in the hospital.
After some time to eat and talk, Ron Coleman led us in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the U.S. Then Gail led us in the recitation of the Four-way Test, and added “Is it Fun?”

MEET ROTARY’S FIRST FEMALE PRESIDENT:
Rotary International President Jennifer Jones took office on July 1 as the first female president in Rotary history See separate article.
FIFTH WEDNESDAY SOCIAL EVENT:
Jeanne Shipe reports that Eighteen smiling faces shine in these two pictures of members who made it to our first AWRC restaurant dine out since Covid! The first stop for AWRC was the AW garden at the Cedarbrook Nursing Home property in Dorneyville. The fine weather made the first course appetizers and garden tour a great warm up for our Italian dinner. I hope someone got pix at the Thumbs Up Garden, as even more Rotarians showed up there to check out the vegetable garden before moving onto the Carrabba's Italian Grill feast.
The garden is a work of art thriving in the glorious weather. Contact Gail Micca to make arrangements to harvest, water, weed, or deliver these happy veggies that we share with the local food pantries.

TODAY’S CENTERPIECES:
Today’s centerpiece flowers were donated by Lisa Walton. They are groups of 5 so attendees can take some home today.
FRESH FLOWERS FOR SALE:
Lisa Walton is selling her gorgeous home-grown flowers at $10 for small, and $25 for a large bouquet. This is a fundraiser for club operating monies, and it should continue through October.
PLEASE order them in advance from Lisa. She will make them up on Monday for our in-person Wednesday morning meetings.
OUR YEAR IN REVIEW:
Pres. Gail discussed the many, many projects that our members made happen during the 2021-22 Rotary year and showed a multitude of photos. We met at Brookside CC, The Starlite Diner, the Parkland Community Library, and finally here at Madeline’s.
Gail noted her two bike tours, flower sales, pie crust making, baked item sales, that raised money for projects.
Next was a list of some of our newer members and their sponsors. And she noted that Ben Long’s wife delivered son, Noah last week.

Pres. Gail reviewed the many, many projects done by Kathy in the short time that she was with us. Then there is this poem ---
From our observatory, we may be star struck by this event horizon and Kathy may
be speechless, (like being hit in the solar plexus), but, we all know, except those
who have been in a black hole, that she is universally recognized as Jupiter, a giant
in her class. This makes her out of this world with an absolute magnitude of 10.
Although we may be Hubble-d together in our galaxy, we are able to achieve
the escape velocity from nebula(ous) thinking, by using our gray matter, not dark
matter, to understand that her rise has not been meteoric. Her career has not been
one along a milky way but one which is where, with a flare, she has had her finger
on the pulsar of the community with service above self.

DISTRCIT 7430 GOVERNOR COMMENTS:
DG Len Gieseler of the Pottstown RC began by saying “I can’t beat what you guys do.”
He said that RI President Jennifer Jones selected this year’s theme and its colors. She emphasizes women in Rotary. Len was wearing this year’s official Rotary tie.
Len said that his focus this year is to get more and more members engaged in projects of some kind. His official visit to our RC is scheduled for October. He said that on Sept. 11th there will be a district-wide “Community Day” where each RC is asked to do a project. We are asked to work with other community groups.
INSTALLATION OF 2022-23 PRESIDENT:
DG Len said the words and then Gail Micca took the oath of office.
INSTALLATION OF DIRECTOS AND COMMITTEE CHAIRS:
DG Len administered the oath of office for this new year’s officers.
RECOGNITION OF OUR FEMALE MEMBERS:
Pres. Gail assembled our female members at the front of the room. Then one-by-one she bragged about what each has been doing for the community.
ROTARIAN OF THE YEAR:
Ralph Witcher has been awarded the title for the 2021-22 year. He received a Citation and a lapel pin as ROTY.
RISING STAR:
Pres. Gail acknowledged that Jill Kearney is a rising star in our Rotary family. She now is our President-elect.
