Today was a Zoom meeting with 33 folks on line.
CHAT TIME:
Bill, and then Sue, Weber came on from Hilton Head.
Pres. Gail called in from North Dakota where she is visiting her parents. Her Dad came to join her.
After a dozen of us were online, Gail asked for opinions on having a video made of members talking about AWRC that would be shown at our April 29th Charter Night party. Sounds like a go.
Ernie Boll came on from Arizona.
Len Salines says he is doing OK, but still must use crutches to get around.
Chuck Ehninger was on line from Florida where they have been for a month so far.
Ralph Witcher noted how great it is that with zoom we get our out of town members joining us. Gail agrees and said we will continue zooming going forward as we go back to in-person meetings.

OPENING:
Pres. Gail Micca rang a real bell at 7:30 to start the meeting.
Chuck Ehninger gave a very nice invocation.
Then Ralph Witcher led us in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the U.S. Gail then led us in the recitation of the Four Way Test to which we added “Is it fun?”
STUDENT OF THE MONTH:
Rev. Jeff Kistler conducted the ceremony to honor Carter Smith as our Student of the Month of February. See separate article.
Carter was pleased and thanked us all for the honor. Two years ago his brother was similarly honored.
The two guidance counselors, and his English Teacher said congratulations.
AWRC HISTORY STORY:
Past President, Ernie Boll delivered today’s story about the Sierra Leone water well and solar pump.
HAPPY DOLLARS:
Sue Weber extends greetings from the Sunset RC in Hilton Head. She likes their evening meeting time.
Gail Micca donated $10 because she was sitting with her Dad.
Amir Famili is happy to be part of our most generous club.
Ron Coleman is happy to see us all.
Bill Weber is happy still after 56 years of marriage to Sue.
CELEBRATIONS:

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Gwenn Carr is the International Woman of the Year. Her award will be at the Emmaus RC on March 10th. Please join us to honor Gwenn for all that she does.
ANOTHER MEETING SITE CHANGE:
We will NOT be meeting in person at the Parkland Community Library at all.
Instead we will meet at Madeline’s in Fogelsville starting on March 9th person to person.
KINGDOM LIFE FOOD BANK:
Ralph Witcher thanks the volunteers for last Saturday who made the food distribution successful.

ROTARY DAY OF SERVICE -- APRIL 30:
AW Rotarians will work with members of the downtown Allentown RC to operate a day of “Shredding” at the Macungie Center on Brookside Road. Anybody can bring up to 4 boxes of items to be shredded.
SNACK PACKS:
Today the Interact students will gather and prepare some snack packs.
MEALS ON WHEELS:
This program is going well. Volunteers still are needed as substitutes.

PROGRAM:
Program Chair, Ralph Witcher, introduced Dr. Jim Elliker, President, Leading People, Inc. to discuss Recreating Leadership.
Jim Elliker is a passionate coach of both current and emerging leaders. This comes from his drive for helping others discover and leverage their core strengths and abilities, and grow in effectiveness. This passion of his has been shaped through four decades of Human Resources, military and community experience.
Jim graduated in 1974 from Miami and entered the US Navy as a shipboard officer, where he served as both Officer of the Deck and Navigator on a US Destroyer. He followed that assignment as an instructor and company officer at the US Naval Academy.
In the early 1980’s Jim joined a Fortune 500 industrial company (Air Products) where he invested over 25 years in multiple HR capacities, partnering with numerous business and corporate leaders to effect positive change in demanding environments. His final assignment was as an organizational development leader, focusing on helping teams and leaders tackle change management and leadership development challenges.
In 2009, Jim jumped into the private corporation sector, taking a senior generalist and advisor role primarily within the corporate technical community of a highly innovative electronics lighting company (Lutron Electronics). He has been privileged to work with world class talent.
This year, Jim is continuing his advisor role, but creating a new platform, Leading People, that allows him to assist other organizations as well.
Jim and his wife Roula (also a PhD, and much smarter than Jim) are the happy parents of 5 grown kids and 10 amazing grandkids.
Jim is currently teaching a graduate course on leadership theory and application, and he thought it might be fun for us to review some core theories, and maybe a few short exercises on “temperament” and “your why” to help everyone get a boost on their own leadership.
Jim told us to reinvent our own leadership.
See the world as it is.
He said Leadership really stumbles and does not know what to do.
He recommended a book “Who do we choose to be?”
Another recommended book is “It’s not about coffee.”
Jim discussed a Leadership Overview that covered:
Our Traits we are born with
The Skills we learn
Be real\Be ethical
Jim asked us questions to test our own characteristics for leading.
A third book recommended is “Servant as a leader.”
