Today was an IN-PERSON meeting at Madeline’s in Fogelsville with 29 people present plus 5 more on line.
GUEST:
District Governor, Len Gieseler, Pottstown RC; Asst. Gov. Area 1, Rick Zayaitz, Emmaus RC; Tyler, Allentown RC; and Samuel, our Y.E. student.
BOARD MEETING:
DG Len met with our B.O.D. members for 25 minutes before this meeting.
OPENING:
Our Greeter was Murtaza Jaffer.
Sgt-at-Arms, Mitch Huston -- with initial help from Chris Blechschmidt -- handled registration, Happy Dollars, and prizes.
President Gail Micca started the meeting at 7:37 A.M.
Ernie Boll gave a very nice invocation.
Ron Coleman led us in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the U.S.
Pres. Gail led us in the recitation of the Four-way Test, and added “Is it Fun?”
CELEBRATIONS:
Pres. Gail displayed the list of October member celebration events. The list is shown below.
AWRC HOLIDAY PARTY:
Pres. Gail said that we are holding our annual Christmas party at Twin Lakes C.C. The date is Friday, Dec. 2nd. Registration will be ready in two weeks.
We need volunteers to work on this event’s planning.
SNACKPACKING IS BACK:
Our first snack packing event will be at Parkland H.S today.

Additionally, we could use some help with the Northwestern Snackpacking on October 19th .
Herb Klotz and Dianna Dunn are chairing these efforts now.
HIGHWAY CLEAN-UP:
Sharon Goldner said that 3 of them got it done and it was cold out.
GREEN THUMB GARDEN:
Pres. Gail said they harvested about 75 lbs. in this season-ending event.
CASINO NIGHT:
The net proceeds were $22,000. Gail showed pictures of folks on Gary’s old car.
A survey seeking feedback was done on Oct 5th.
We may decide to do it again next year, and announce a date in the next few weeks. This would allow sponsors to put us in their budgets before year-end.

PARLAND C.A.R.E.S.:
Oct 8th was their last event. Karen and Katrina said that they served 211 clients, and the number keeps growing. Also the costs of contents keeps rising. They will be working with Second Harvest again.
MULTI-CLUB MEMBERSHIP EVENT:
“Conversations Over Cornhole”, will happen on October 19th. It will be a cornhole tournament and get-together in Center Valley at the Stone Farm Cellars and Vineyards from 5:30 to 8:00 P.M. So bring member candidates as your guests. Gail Micca needs help setting things up.
There is no entrance fee. And you can purchase food and drink there.
There are 7 RCs working together on this event. Sixty people are registered so far.
POLIO ERADICATION RUN / WALK etc:
The Lehigh Valley Passport RC is managing the district Purple Pinkie 5K RACE event which will be on October 15th.
The other activities planned for this year include non-competitive walks, runs and bike trips “On The Trails” in the Reading area. The Pottstown RC is managing the day. Registration is $40, and includes a lunch.
KINGDOM LIFE FOOD DISTRIBUTION:
Jean Masiko needs volunteers for October 15th. Jean said that they now are serving 300 to 400 clients each month.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY:
A “Women’s Build” event on October 18th is filled up. It will teach attendees various carpentry skills.
They always can use volunteers on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. And they will teach you any needed skills.
MEALS ON WHEELS:
The schedule is set. Helen always can use substitute members to fill a void once in a while.
MEETING SCHEDULE:
Since November 30th is the 5th Wednesday of the month, and since our Holiday Party is on December 2nd, there will be no AWRC meeting on Nov. 30th.
PRIZES:
Mitch Huston had tickets drawn. The Door prize was won by Marlene Heller. The $18 of the 50:50 was won by David Haight.
HAPPY DOLLARS:
Herb Klotz is happy to have hiked the Camino in Spain with two other EWB members.
Ben Long is happy to be here today. The new baby seems to make it hard to sleep.
Sue Weber is happy that DG Len is here.
Marlene Heller is happy that their daughter is doing well after her surgery.
Dianna Dunn was happy.
Laurie Grube was happy about the successful new bank opening.
Lisa Walton is happy to be an avid baseball fan.
Bill Palmer is happy to be attending his grandson, Christopher’s wedding this Saturday.

Asst. Governor, Rick Zayaitz, introduced Len Gieseler, District Governor of our Rotary District 7430 for his Official Visit this year.
Len Gieseler flew helicopters while in the U.S. Navy. He was President of the Pottstown RC from 2004 to 2005. He is the President at Evans, Hauseman & Richard Inc, Auto, Home, Business, Health, Life, Disability Insurance in Pottstown.

Each month we will have one newsletter and update our website to keep all of our members informed. We will offer a number of activities for us all to participate in.

Len began by asking members around the room why they joined Rotary, and what projects they liked.
Len explained this year’s logo.
The inner circle represents Rotarians.
The seven other circles represent the seven areas of focus.
The green line is an aboriginal cleaning stick that represents Rotarians in motion.
The color purple represents our Polio Eradication efforts.
The white background represents Peace.
Len listed three issues he will emphasize today:
Membership
Foundation
Projects.
There are over 46,000 member clubs worldwide, with a membership of 1.4 million individuals. RI recently declared all Rotaract members to be Rotarians as well. This added 200,000 to the headcount.
It seems that each year we bring in 10 to 15% new members, and at the same time we lose the same number.
Our RCs should concentrate on retaining members by getting them engaged. And getting candidates involved in our many projects is a great way then to ask them to join. And when they say “No” try again later. We start by being a “Welcoming” club.
DG Len complimented AW Rotarians for our support of “OUR” Rotary Foundation every year. It is greatly appreciated. He made a push for supporting our Polio eradication efforts this month. He said that this year there are 54 district grants in process, and 6 Global Grants too.
When it comes to projects, DG Len knows we have a multitude going all year round.
