Is It The Truth?

Finally, we had our Four-Way Test Speech Contest! Our club went four years without a contest, so it was a really big deal to host this event. Speaking in front of a crowd takes some guts. We are proud of our Northwestern High School students who took the challenge and grew from the experience. Giving young people an opportunity like this is what Rotary does so well. In our “Imagine Rotary”- themed year, I can’t help but imagine what it would be like if we could have five or six contestants next year!

Today I am grateful for all of the Rotarians who made this possible, from Peter redesigning a great brochure, award certificate and digital materials, to our volunteer judges, timers, teller and especially Bill Keba, who jumped right in and made this possible. Each project and program we offer creates a little ripple in our community. I hope this experience inspires more, better, and thoughtful speakers in the next generation. We hope that applying the Four-Way Test to a speech has helped to instill the ideals we live by.

DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME
SUNDAY, MARCH 12th

________________

DID YOU KNOW?

DST was first implemented in the US with the Standard Time Act of 1918, a wartime measure for seven months during World War I, in the interest of adding more daylight hours to conserve energy resources. Year-round DST, or "War Time," was implemented again during World War II.
