The results of the annual voting for our B.O.D. members for Rotary Year 2023-24 are held up due to a candidate change. There will be a new vote taken in January.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY TOUR:
AWRC Visit to Habitat for Humanity Homes in Allentown---
On Wednesday December 21 some of our members attended a presentation arranged by AWRC Past President Amir Famili and led by Habitat for Humanity Alli Ingram, Director of Marketing & Resource Development.
Alli gave an informative and heartfelt talk describing Habitat for Humanity’s beginnings in Atlanta, GA. She explained how she had worked in the ReStore and came to her present position from there, which she said has many challenges but even greater rewards, especially when it comes time to hand over the keys to a family.
She told a story of how one of Habitat’s family members came to need medical care, and the family explained that she was a Habitat for Humanity volunteer and to treat her with special care. The Doctor replied that he certainly would—having been a Habitat for Humanity kid himself. Alli pointed out how this demonstrated how generational change can manifest when a family has a chance to get ahead through hard work and a helping hand.
Alli spoke about Habitat for Humanity’s track record of building 133 homes for hard-working, disadvantaged families. She also said that they are poised to begin work on 56 homes in Easton, the largest effort to date in the Lehigh Valley. They will need money and volunteers.
Amir Famili also spoke about the rewards that this simple and noble service brings. Amir is the go-to in our Rotary club for those who wish to volunteer at Habitat for Humanity and has himself been a longtime volunteer. It was a cold day, but one remark that both Alli and Amir echoed was that whether it was working outside on a scaffold or on a frigid day handing over the keys, both felt the kind of warmth that comes from within.
AWRC members have collected donations from our member to purchase Giant gift cards for the new families that will be moving into the homes seen today.

PROJECTS FOR GRANTS FOR 2022-23:
Please tell Pres. Gail your recommendations for special projects for which we can make Grant applications. Herb said we will have one for Sierra Leone too.
PARKLAND C.A.R.E.S. PRODUCE DELIVERY:
Parkland CARES will distribute food for first time in the new year on Saturday, January 7th.
The Pantry will hold its food distributions on the first Saturday of each month for the entirety of 2023.
Food collections for Parkland CARES will be held the third Wednesday of each month at the Pantry on Kernsville Road.

WINTER LIGHT SPECTACULAR at LEHIGH VALLEY ZOO”
Jeanne, Dennis, Gail, Ed and kids volunteered on Monday. The zoo staff is very appreciative of any help with this big fundraising event.
The Winter Lights Spectacular attracts about 1,000 people per night and requires a good deal of staff and volunteers to ensure a good time is had by visitors. Please consider signing up if you can help this week. Herb and Diana will be there on the 30th. Dress warmly!

The schedule for the next 4 months is set. Helen always needs substitutes.
HAPPY DOLLARS:
Peter Wohlsen is happy that he went for the tour of the Habitat for Humanity house with 8 other members. See separate report.
Bill Palmer is happy that on Christmas Eve morning he went bowling with his family as usual and bowled a full game.
Ernie Boll always is happy.
MEETING SCHEDULE:
Starting in January, the first Wednesday will be a Dining out meeting, or equal. It may not be on a Wednesday.
January 4: No meeting
January 5: The first zoom of the month will be replaced with our first dining out for 2023 which will be held at Cumin N Eat in the Dorneyville shopping center at 3333 Hamilton Blvd, Allentown, PA. at 6PM. Cumin N Eat serves delicious Indian Cuisine!
