Excuse me, do you have her email?

Yes! And so do you!      If you are a member of Allentown West Rotary, you have a ClubRunner (CR) account, and your phone number and e-mail address are in CR.

Need to contact a member for any reason? Download the ClubRunner app – it’s free, of course – and sign in! If you don’t know your password and login information, call Bill Palmer, and he will walk you through the process.  Why Bill? Because everyone knows how to get in touch with him! (Hint: just reply to this newsletter!)

Why would I want to use ClubRunner?

ClubRunner helps to organize us as a club. It is the platform for all our communications, and offers members an opportunity to stay in touch on various levels.

Here are just some reasons people use CR:
  • To call a member on club business, such as to get a ride to a meeting, find out the logistics of an event, or ask for help in getting club business done.
  • To make plans for a social gathering.
  • To check on their birthday so you could send a card. Or their address, same reason.
  • To check on their address before you head over to their house for an event, meeting, or to drop something off.
  • To find their email or phone number. Or work address.
  • Because you’ve forgotten the name of their spouse and you were up all night trying to remember it.
  • Find out the proper spelling of a member’s name.

What’s your best use of Club Runner?

THURSDAY OCT 10 MEETING NOTES

Thirteen Rotarians and a guest met at the Starlite Diner for fellowship, a meeting and dinner.  We recited the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.

Then  we enumerated all the many projects and opportunities our Rotary Club is undertaking.  They include:
painting at the Center for Vision Loss (see Dale Heffner),

cleaning up a section of RT 222 on Oct. 19 ( let Dale Heffner or  Gail Micca if know you can help),

giving to the dictionary project (only a couple of hundred dollars left to raise),

Purple Pinkie on Saturday, dining out at Stony Run Inn on Halloween (see Jean Machamer),

Miracle League trick or treating on Oct. 23 (see Jean or Barbara and give fruit snacks),

snack packing at Parkland (see Gail Micca) coming up on Wed.
So many worthwhile projects!

The next Evening Meeting will be at the Holiday Inn on Oct. 24 starting at 5:30 PM in conference room #217.  The program for that meeting will be DG Herb.  Please purchase drinks at the bar and bring to Room #217 to register with Dennis.

The Nov. 14 meeting will be a membership event of some sort to be decided with Gwenn and committee.  It will be the only evening meeting in November.

Many happy dollars were shared along the way including the Rosevelts’ anticipation of a new grandbaby.

The program featured Jeanne Shipe sharing artifacts and stories about her trip to South Africa with the District Friendship Exchange.  She visited seven Rotary clubs/families and saw many beautiful sights, flora and fauna.  She learned what Rotary clubs in that part of the world  -- the western Cape  - do including own their own elder care facilities.

In the future we will definitely request the separate room at the Starlite so we can better hear each other and not stress out the speaker!   Every evening meeting is an adventure and we invite you to join us soon.

PROGRAM:
Chuck Ehninger introduced our program today, Rev. Dr. Larry Pickens, Ecumenical Director of Lehigh Conference of Churches.

The Rev. Dr. Larry D. Pickens, Esq. is the ecumenical director of The Lehigh Conference of Churches; he is a native of Chicago, growing up in the Englewood community. Larry has served The United Methodist Church for over 30 years in ordained ministry. He also enjoys dual standing with the United Church and serves as the interim pastor of the St. Peter’s United Church of Christ.

Dr. Pickens is married to his wife, Debra and they have a daughter, Jessica, who is a therapist at the University of Maryland.

Larry is also an attorney, licensed in the State of Illinois; he is concerned about merging justice and mercy as a framework for ministry and social engagement; this is the cornerstone of his ministry. He believes that all of God's people have been "fearfully and wonderfully made" and therefore have a unique contribution to share with the world and the church. Larry believes that change is effectuated by addressing the systemic causes of injustice.

Dr. Pickens began with the statement:
The Lehigh   Conference of Churches (TLCC)  --  Driven by faith to bring healing, housing, and hope to the Lehigh Valley’s most vulnerable.
