PROGRAM:
Chuck Ehninger introduced our program today, Rev. Dr. Larry Pickens, Ecumenical Director of Lehigh Conference of Churches.
The Rev. Dr. Larry D. Pickens, Esq. is the ecumenical director of The Lehigh Conference of Churches; he is a native of Chicago, growing up in the Englewood community. Larry has served The United Methodist Church for over 30 years in ordained ministry. He also enjoys dual standing with the United Church and serves as the interim pastor of the St. Peter’s United Church of Christ.
Dr. Pickens is married to his wife, Debra and they have a daughter, Jessica, who is a therapist at the University of Maryland.
Larry is also an attorney, licensed in the State of Illinois; he is concerned about merging justice and mercy as a framework for ministry and social engagement; this is the cornerstone of his ministry. He believes that all of God's people have been "fearfully and wonderfully made" and therefore have a unique contribution to share with the world and the church. Larry believes that change is effectuated by addressing the systemic causes of injustice.
