Our Greeter today was Shawn Fejes, represented by Bob Gordon and he did a marvelous job.
President Jeanne Shipe rang the bell at 7:30 A.M. to open the meeting. Then Jeanne gave a very nice invocation.
Pres. Jeanne again projected a series of photos from last week in a continuous loop for our viewing as we ate breakfast.
Jeanne began the meeting having the members recite the 4 Way test, followed by reciting Bob Gordon’s version of a 5 Way test. Then we said the Pledge of Allegiance to the U.S.A.

ROTARY LEARNING OPPORTUNITY:
On Saturday, October 20th there is an RLI (Rotary Leadership Institute) training session at DeSales University. AWRC members will have their registration fees reimbursed after they attend. This is a great opportunity to learn all about Rotary.

ANNUAL FOUNDATION SEMINAR is on November 10th at MONTCO CC in Blue Bell. Grant Training and certification will be conducted after lunch. Register on-line with EventBrite.
DICTIONARY PROJECT:
P-E Amir Famili has launched this year’s project and ordered about 1,000 dictionaries to arrive in a few weeks. Cash donations are welcome. And there will be a “Label Pasting” Party at Amir’s home on October 26th.
TT5 will happen on April 28, 2019, but NOW is the time to volunteer to work with Gwenn and Gary to learn and execute the many jobs associated with this great fundraising event.
TT5 PLANING MEETING:
The first planning meeting for Tempting Tastes 5 will be held Friday October 19, 2018 - 7:30AM at the Holiday Inn in Breinigsville. Some will start at 7:00 a.m. with Breakfast.
MIRACLE LEAUGUE HALOWEEN PARTY:
The Northwestern Interact students will volunteer at the party again this year.
FUTURE AWRC ROTARY DISTRICT GRANT IDEAS WANTED:

NEXT MEETING -- October 24th -- Our Greeter will be Jeff Kistler. And our program will be David Dunn, Allentown Economic Development Corp discussing Financing Growing Businesses in Allentown. We also will honor the Parkland HS Student of the Month.
Pres Jeanne introduced S-a-A Mitch Huston who conducted the drawings and picked up the Happy Dollars.
The door prize donated by Bob Gordon was won by Bill Palmer.
The 50:50 pot of $124 was NOT won.by Gwenn Carr whose ticket was drawn. ONLY 2 marbles remain…..and one is Black.
HAPPY DOLLARS:
Gwenn Carr is happy to report that Mustafa Jaffer is going to Karbala, Iraq tomorrow for a pilgrimage. It is the largest pilgrimage in the world. And he is a part of the medical mission team to ensure that all pilgrims who need medical attention receive it.
This is a photo of Ralph Witcher and Mustafa showing them praying together. Dr. Bob Gordon noted that it is with thanks to U.S. troops that the pilgrimages now are possible.
Gwenn is also happy to report that she and Gary are going to Italy for two weeks on a Culinary Tour.
John Scott is happy that both Purple Pinkie events are behind us and were successful. He also will complete his leadership role with the Northern Berks Masonic Lodge on Dec. 27th.
Al Lewis is very happy to be back here at Luther Crest. And he said that last evening’s Harmonizers concert --- featuring Ralph Witcher --- was great.
Jeanne Shipe is happy to report that $3,500 of the monies raised by the Parkland High School students has been used to provide books to 1,800 students at the Centennial School in Sierra Leone.
PROGRAM:
Our program today was our Quarterly AWRC Assembly, which began with Treasurer Chris Blechschmidt. Chris had a few slides and listed the various ways that we keep financial score for our RC.
We have a Club Operating account that collects the club dues and other revenue from Happy Dollars and our 50:50 program.
Our AW Foundation is a 501-C-3 that serves to collect and manage the monies from our Fundraisers. These accounts include:
Operations for Charities
Two Snack Packing accounts; one is Northwestern and one is Parkland
Tempting Tastes is separate because of its size
Our Reserve account which receives 10% of the net funds raised each year, and returns 5% with earnings back to operations each year.
Our Expenses are tracked as:
Dues we pay per member to RI and D7430
The Youth Exchange student’s fee and monthly stipend
Luther Crest events we sponsor
Tempting Tastes cash paid out
Lowhill Food Pantry donations
Our portion of District Grants, such as the shelves for Threads of Change
Funds collected by the Parkland H.S. students for Sierra Leone that we manage
Purple Pinkie funds from all over the district that we wash through for the RI Polio Plus Fund
Student-of-the-Month gift certificates

The total amount is about $98,000. Of that total the Reserve of about $35,000 is invested regularly.
Pres. Jeanne said that we are exploring the use of our existing ClubRunner software to generate our annual RC dues statements.
Next, John Scott our RC Membership Chair, distributed a brochure describing our planned membership recruitment event. Pres. Jeanne has designated our regular November 14th breakfast meeting for this, and we are calling it an Open House.
John said that he has used social media and has set up EventBrite to do registrations and already has one RSVP.
Herb said that we need to invite about 5 guests in order to have one attend. Each of us can invite candidates. Or we can give the info to John Scott and he will invite them.
John expects to have a different “look” here to greet guests. The doors will open at 7:00 A.M. Guest will have breakfast paid by AWRC. There will not be the usual meeting format. Instead three or more members each will relate a story about how Rotary has affected their lives.
Other AWRC materials will be on display. We will explain who we are and what we do. And we will not wear our Badges -- lapel pins are expected, though. We each should greet our guests with a “Hello” and our name.
John will provide brochures in color and with registration info shown. He also has business cards for us to use.
