MEETING  NOTES  August  8, 2018

Our Greeter today was Dale Heffner and he did a marvelous job.

President Jeanne Shipe rang the bell at 7:30 A.M. to open the meeting. Bill Weber gave a very nice invocation.

Pres. Jeanne began the meeting having the members recite the Four-way Test. Then we recited the pledge of allegiance to the U.S. Flag.

GUESTS:
Wilmer Schultz, Emmaus RC.

Pres. Jeanne  showed pictures starting with DG Cindy Hornaman, AG Gary Rohrbach and then Ihor Fedoriw. Then we saw the Weber’s pond, the near our Aug 19th Picnic. Then there was the Micca family produce distribution at the Lowhill Food Pantry, and the Ralph Witcher family.

Gail Micca has taken on the position and joins our Board of Directors. Thanks, Gail.

PARKLAND  H.S.  INTERACT CLUB:
Lori Peters of Parkland HS is the new Advisor to the Interact Club.

WHERE  DO  THE DUES  $s  GO?:
Pres. Jeanne explained how our $200 of annual RC dues are allocated. RI has a basic semi-annual per capita charge, to which is added some insurance policies, the Rotarian magazine and some other fees. Then we add the $40 pp annual District dues. These add up to $125, leaving $75 per member to operate out club.

PUBLIC IMAGE:
John Scott encourages ALL AW Rotarians to send notes and pictures to him appropriate for our Facebook page.

RESTAURANT  ADVERTISING  NEEDED:
We need twelve (12) or more Restaurants to support Tempting Tastes 5, and we only have 4 so far.  AW Rotarians are asked to tell restaurants that they use that AW Rotarians are eating there. We now have a  sign to exhibit as we do our monthly Dining Out events.

ROTARY   LEARNING   OPPORTUNITY:
On Saturday, October 20th there is an RLI (Rotary Leadership Institute) training session at DeSales University.  AWRC members will have their registration fees reimbursed after they attend. This is a great opportunity to learn all about Rotary.

HAPPY  DOLLARS:
Mitch Huston told some stories about how the weather interfered with the Drum Corps competition last weekend. Friday evening was a wet mess. But Saturday  was beautiful.

Dale Heffner is happy to be back with his AW fiends. But he loves Alaska.

Bill Palmer is happy that Dale Heffner returned from Alaska in time to fill in at the last minute as today’s Greeter.

Bill and Sue Weber celebrated 53 years of marriage yesterday, bill said happily.

Herb Klotz told another joke from the restroom wall; it was about a Bar and a “frayed Knot.”

Ernie Boll asks us all to pray for our friend Wilmer Schultz as he has surgery next week.

PROGRAM:
Our program  today was the Terrific Trio of Herb Klotz  and Bill  and Sue Weber giving Highlights of the 2018 Rotary International Convention in Toronto last June. There were 47 Rotarians from our District 7430 that attended. There were about 25,000 attendees from all over the world. The opening session was held twice at the Toronto Maple Leafs Arena to handle the size.

Herb and Ronnee went a few days early and were tourists in this city of 3 million people. It was clean and a great time.

Then Herb started the Rotary experience by attending a session by a Rotary Action Group ( RAG ) all about water and sanitation. i.e. “WASRAG.” Herb found himself surrounded by hundreds of Rotarians who have worked on international projects for many years. It was a good experience.

On Saturday the House of Friendship opened up.  There were over 300 exhibits, some commercial, but most all about what Rotarians are doing to help others. Sue said you could have spent the whole conference just in this H.O.F.

Herb explained that in 2020 at the District Conference he has plans for each of our 45 RCs to have an exhibit table in the House of Friendship  to show off their projects.

Bill Weber said that they all enjoyed seeing and meeting Rotarians in native costumes from all over the world. They seemed proud of their garb and the culture represented. And all of the people they met provided a multitude of ideas and opportunities to do projects.

They discussed the many, many “Fellowship” groups that Rotarians have formed and welcome members. One example is a “Hosting” fellowship that has Rotarians welcoming other Rotarians to stay in their home, and then reciprocating as you travel. There is a Genealogy Fellowship, and a Motorcycle one too.

The 2019 RI Convention will be in Hamburg, Germany. The 2020 one is in Honolulu, and the 2022 convention is in Houston, TX.

Herb said that RI is addressing “The Future of Rotary “ by  developing a New Strategy. The Strategic Priorities are:
         Increase our Impact
         Expand our Reach
         Enhance participant Engagement
         Increase our ability to adapt
Also RI has set a goal that by 2030 every inhabitant of Haiti will have clean water and proper sanitation.

The Klotzs, Webers, Rohrbachs and others did hold a social hour as they ended their experiences. Thank you, Sue, Bill and Herb.

CLOSING:
We closed our meeting by reciting the saying “One profits most who serves best.”
